A general feature that typically comes with all EFFER cranes is the welded steel construction of the basement.

This technique that other manufacturers use only for large capacity cranes allows building a very tall basement in correspondence to the slewing column, thus granting an optimal distance between the upper and lower slewing bushes.

The result is a very stable column while the slewing occurs, still achieving a very limited weight of the whole basement.

The most recent trend in the cranes industry requires very long booms (and EFFER is in the forefront, with eight or nine hydraulic extensions booms, topped by four or six extensions fl y-jibs, fully hydraulic).

For such long booms confi gurations, it is recommen-ded to use a construction of all the steel works (booms, extensions, turret) featuring box shaped components.

The reduced height allows to install the crane even on all terrain vehicles, (normally higher from ground) or, for mountings on trucks, to drive with the boom laid down on the deck (empty vehicle) still remai-ning.

The very high tensile strength steels, which were fi rst explored by EFFER engineering back into the 80s, has proved that the best results in terms of weight gain are achieved when the booms section is purposely redesigned for such materials.In other words, keeping the original design of a component and just switching the steel grade to a higher level does not provide the best productivity in terms of weight.

Despite the high precision design of an EFFER crane that is achieved by laser cutting, robot wel-ding and the exceptional gauge precision of the SSAB steels, the tolerations occurring at the assem-bly stage may produce some side play between each boom extension.

This play, particularly on very long booms, may create a lack of precision in the manoeuvers which is unacceptable on an EFFER crane.

Each extension cylinder is mounted with a “fl oating type support”, a concept developed by EFFER since 1990.This allows each cylinder to “fl oat” irrespective of the next one.When the boom or fl y-jib are fully extended, the cylinders remain tangential to the boom camber, instead of being forced to follow it. This feature guarantees that while retracting or extending the boom under a load the extensions rod will always stay lined up to the barrel, preventing an early wear of the gaskets.

The EFFER System HSS (High-Speed System) allows to recirculate the oil getting out of the exten-sions cylinders directly to the cylinders themselves (barrel side).

This means that the extensions outlet speed can improve by up to 80 % in comparison with a traditio-nal system.

However, when the system is on, the thrust power of the extensions cylinders is slightly lower (due to the lesser pressure). “STAND UP OPERATOR” PlatformThe new EFFER Stand Up Operator Platform allows a perfect view

in all working situations that require an elevated control position

with whole visibility of the interior of the truck body.

The technical solution applied allows a precise and safe control,

without mechanical backlash between driving levers and

hydraulic control bank, granting a precision and a operating

speed that are possible only with radio control system.

The Stand Up Operator Platform includes a 6 levers panel that is

electrically connected with the Danfoss control bank that, with an

oil flow of 70 l/m, grants the maximum speed in all the crane

versions.

The mechanical rotation lock stops the boom from positioning

over the control area, assuring the maximum safety for the

operator; the locking device allows to restore quickly the

maximum rotation angle when using the crane ground controls.

The ground control keeps the dual-side feature and allows to have

a crane with 3 independent control positions, so that the user can

drive the crane from the most convenient one.

The platform includes an anti-slip footboard with toe guard and

side and back guardrails; the side guardrails can be opened,

allowing the complete folding of the crane behind the cab, even

with hose support system for supplementary controls installed on

the boom. The hydraulic tank is mounted in the usual position, so

it’s easier to install the crane, without the need of finding other

space on the truck for the tank.

The Stand Up Operator Platform is now available for 130 and 155

crane models. The same Platform is offered also for the FPI crane

145 and 165, functioning as radio control support plate

(supporting-desk).

The Stand Up Operator Platform has been studied to be supplied

as a mounting kit, allowing the maximum flexibility for the dealers

and facilitating subsequent installations (only for cranes provided

with Danfoss control bank). The mounting kit includes a painted

footboard with anchor bolts to the crane, electrical activators for

the control bank, the levers panel, pre-wired for the connection

with the activators, and the proper mechanical rotation lock.
