Pl. 234 $180 An attractive early to mid-19th century lithograph showing the traditional Pirogue out-rigger boat from the Manado region in North Celebes (Sulawesi) in plan and profile, together with details of its construction. Published by the French hydrographer Edmond Francois Paris and probably published in one of the five volumes of his Voyage autour du Monde in 1833 and later editions. Measures 362 x 260 mm. A Gift, Perhaps? J.C. Rappard. Untitled. $215 A chromolithograph showing locals climbing down ladders to collect birds nests from limestone caves and cliffs. J.C. Rappard was an army officer and artist who spent much of his career in Indonesia between 1842 - 1872. He produced water colour drawings for a series of chromolithographs illustrating topographical views and colonial life in the Dutch East Indies at the time. This popular print is derived from Het Kamerlid van Berkenstein in Nederlandsch - Indie in Leiden in 1888. Measures 170 x 230 mm. Jan Jansson. Insula Borneo et occidentalis pars Celebis cum adjacentibus Infulis. A beautiful mid-17th century sea chart of Borneo Island by the famous Dutch cartographer Jan Jansson also known as Johannes Janssonius (1588-1664) and published in his five-volume sea atlas Atlantis Majoris Quinta Pars Orbem Maritimum in 1657. One of three folio-sized maps of the three largest Indonesian islands in the atlas, the others being Sumatra and Java. Measures 416 x 522 mm.
