    The

    Barracks

    Newsletter

    Issue: 1IN THIS ISSUE

    This is the first newsletter

for The Barracks. This wascreated as a format to discuss

    upcoming events, gaming

    strategy, new product releases

    and just about anything that

    would pique the curiosity of

    current or potential patrons.

    Just as with any

    communication medium

    feedback is necessary and

welcome. As a start, a name is

    needed for this fledgling

    newsletter. Please submit any

    suggestions either to Ken or

    myself. (Winning submission may

receive a prize, along with the

    pride associated with determining

    the moniker.)

We are also excited as this

    newsletter is for the customers!

Any subject that you would like tosee discussed or reviewed may be

    submitted to a Barracks

    employee and may even be

featured in a future edition of the

THE BARRACKS NEWSLETTER | Issue 1

    Recently Images have

    been leaked for the upcoming

set: Theros. This set is to be

released after the release of the

new M14 set to start off the new

    block.

    There have been many

    speculations of the direction in

which Wizards wants to move the

tempo of gameplay. Slow it downor speed it up? Most players

believe that Wizards is looking to

slow it down. Is Theros the set in

    which this begins?

    I

    personally

    believe in

    this set we

    will see

    Wizards go

    back tobasics. The

    whole

    Innastrad

    block

    featured

    powerful

    and

    devastating

    cards that

we have not seen since the

Eldrazi. If they do not slow downthe gameplay and simplify

    gameplay I believe things could

get out of hand very quickly.

    WHATS NEXT?

    What could be after Theros?

    Speculations or suggestions fo

    future sets.

This is a section we will

feature every issue where we will

    field questions, discuss any

    questions or comments, or even

    discuss strategy.

    Any questions or

    comments may be submitted

    (preferably in writing) to either

Ken or myself, at the shop or

    online.

Amass the armies!elect your army and prepare for battle!

et the field!osition your army and prepare to dominate!

Warhammer is a miniatures gamein which one opponent looks to

    eliminate the other through the

    destruction of their army.

Set in the future, this game offers

    both sci-fi and fantasy gaming

    appeal.Executed through the use

    of miniatures, gameplay may

    happen anywhere. This game also

    allows for social interaction and

understanding. The game fosterscommunication skills, team

    building experience, and

    creativity.

There is also a certain level of

pride that can be felt with the

    preparation of your army.

    Warhammer pieces are sold

    unpainted so each player may

    customize their armys own color

    scheme.

    This level of creativity also

    expands beyond the pieces and

on to the battlefield. While you

may play anywhere, even a blank

    tabletop, many players also like

to create their own terrain. This

    enables you to customize the

battle zone and make it your own!

This can also help to make sure

that you never fight the samebattle twice!

    If you find yourself interested,

    The Barracks offers plenty of

    Warhammer merchandise. Also,

    we often offer games workshops

    to demonstrate this and other

    gaming formats.

THE BARRACKS NEWSLETTER | Issue 1

In this section every month we

    will discuss drafting certain cards

and other pointers that may help

you out in a Magic draft

    tournament.

The first card we will discuss is

Madcap Skills. Not only is the

CMC low at 2, but this card also

    beefs up any creatures offense

with the +3/+0. Oh, and by the

way also cant be blocked except

by two or more creatures, who

    would want that? An excellent

complement card for any draftdeck running red, do not be

surprised if it is one of the first

    commons to be drafted.

The second card we will discuss is

Guardian of the Gateless. You will

often find this to be one of the

first cards drafted and with good

    reason. This creatures second

ability makes it a definite game

changer, often enabling you tosurvive at least one more turn. As

for offense the Flying ability is

    often very advantageous in the

    draft format, often over-looked,

    and not as commonly played.

    This creatures third ability could

also be extremely useful in taking

out a whole swarm of tokens.

Our third card we will discuss is

Mugging. A one drop red card that

has many uses. You can deal the 2

    damage to target creature to

remove a pesky, little creature or

use it to make a vicious defender

    useless, either way it usually

means a hurting is on the way forthe other player.
