Barokken• Barokk betød absurd, grotesk. • Navnet ble satt av kritikere på 1700-tallet som
mente at dette var beskrivende for det som brøt med de klassiske arkitektur-regler.
• Betegner perioden fra ca. 1600 til ca. 1750, men med glidende overgang i begge ender (huskeregel er barokk = 1600-tallet).
• I malerkunsten er der ingen klar overgang fra renessanse til barokk. Malerne dro gjerne til Roma og tok med seg en av ”skolene” hjem.
