Your FutureYou may have noticed that Barnsley College is
undergoing a massive re-development, with manysuperb new facilities already available to ourstudents. Work is well underway on the multi-millionpound construction of a fantastic new building whichwill be the main campus at Old Mill Lane. This willprovide the area with a state-of-the-art learningenvironment we can all be proud of.
The fantastic facilities, workshops and IT resourceswill come together to provide a superb learningexperience that can be tailored to the different
needs of each individual in our student population.
The College already provides a superb learningenvironment for all students. The SciTech buildingprovides state-of-the-art facilities in a modern andfriendly learning environment.
The sports complex at the Honeywell site offers someof the best facilities in the region both for learningand leisure.
The new build is on track for completion for summer2011. The building will be the agship for the College
and the modern facilities and learning environment
will provide people from the Borough and beyondwith the best possible learning opportunities.If you are interested in keeping an eye on thedevelopments with the new build, there is now aviewing hut located on the corner of Eastgate whichallows people to see the work that is going onbehind the fences. You can also follow developmentswith the new build on the College website at www.barnsley.ac.uk

Barnsley College held their annual Excellence Awards Ceremony onThursday 24th June at the Metrodome, Barnsley. The awards ceremonywas a celebration of the success of both students and staff over thelast academic year and recognised students from across all Collegedepartments. There was a total of 25 award winners on the night andfriends and family joined together with College staff, sponsors andVIPs including the Deputy Lieutenant and The Worshipful the Mayor ofBarnsley to recognise the outstanding achievements of the studentsand staff throughout the year.
Susan Fryer was the big winner on the night after she picked up theoverall Achievement Award as well as the Skills for Life and Work Award.The overall Achievement Award was a surprise award handed out on thenight and recognised Susans outstanding contribution to College life.She has been a true inspiration to fellow students and the nominationreceived from staff was extremely compelling. Susan is a ne examplefor all students and staff alike and was truly deserving of the overallaward.
