The aptitude you will be wearing are enormous, and if you do it right it becomes fun and not work as we experience it today in our daily jobs and the reap is endless.

The principles needed is to always consider in whatever you do at the farm and farm related activities is summarized below;

Output= Input+ Losses, Efficiency= Output / Input. This formula is the reverse of what is applied in today’s technology.

Correct Formula: Output= Input‐ Losses or Input= Output+ Losses

Efficiency= Input/Output. This is applied to Industrial Machineries, Process equipment, , Cars, etc. (example: Fuel consumption per km for different cars of same category)

With Permaculture design applied in the FARM, The INPUT should be lower than the OUTPUT.(i.e. 1 Facebook Friend‐ “liked”, possible to propagate to hundreds).

Input= Should be anything available at the farm or minimal material coming from outside the farm (far and near) Output= Anything you can make out of your Inputs and becomes an input to another thing (closed loop) Losses = The waste you considered becomes another form of Input. (Garbage is not a waste= resource recovery) It becomes perpetual! Is this possible?, It’s a resounding YES at the FARM! By this concept, Farming (Agro forestry, Husbandry, with Leisure) as we know today is just learning back the old ways, learn from the teacher (NATURE) with a TWIST. (Technology, Workmanship, Industry, Science, and Terra). “If you can measure it, then you can control it”. To support this scheme, follow me through as I expound what we are going through, who we are , what we do, what we have , our inspirations, our needs, what others are doing, what we see in the future, OUR DREAMS……..slowly, bit by bit becoming a reality, God willing.

The Challenge: Others can do and successful, 10 years, 12 years down the road, Why can’t we? –Is it hard to do, do you really need a green thumb? What does it require really?

The figure below depicts a successful practitioner for almost 12 years of Sustainable Agriculture using Natural Farming System in the TROPICs( Palawan, Philippines)‐ He wrote a book based on his farm and keep teaching others from private to Govt agency (Agriculture) people what is working and what’s not. He got a lot of failures and was about to back‐out but he keep striving, with her wife, son and with their Orphanage and friends on his side until he got it right. I looked up to him for his experiences and that is enough to convince me, 1 big problem solved. (How to implement and get same results or better what others are doing in Korea, Japan, Europe, the Americas, China, ASEAN in the Philippines having a TROPICAL Climate. (ARRID, TEMPERATE).

Our ultimate goal is to create a sustainable community with sustainable agriculture having a training facility, in a fully operational and functional Eco village environment

Likeminded “farmers” who care to teach, educate, share and retool others in sustainability, trade skills, food preparation and natural agriculture. Having the capacity to provide the equipment, time, live stocks, construction knowhow and help build the farm from scratch.

ROI increases as time moves. Income of partners grows in tandem with revenue and is an expense (Partner shares+ misc cost.).‐ Mission accomplished?

2. With the interest of the investor in mind, The Capital is already exhausted near end of 2017 with return of only 25% worth, however at the end of 5year, the Capital has gain back 61% already and towards end of year 8, capital is returned. Considering the land is already mature on the 5th year, Likeminded early Investors has a faster ROI for the next round and better Yields is possible.

3. Of course this is only a projection and can be greatly improved while we develop the farm, improving the soil, apply our lesson learned, sell at better prices, bigger volume and efficient usage of expenses and TIME. Productivity is expected to get higher until we reached the lands maximum eco systemic balance! (Poly culture (multiple produce) yield on farmed area as against to monoculture(1 plant type) yield over an area).

a) What is the purpose of the different Businesses?

It will give BangarFarmland disposable income together with the people of Sitio Butak or whoever is interested to be part of it, the partnerships with various alternative means of income and business respectively. With the many projects and possible businesses, everyone will learn how to properly manage and cultivate the plantation including the technical skills that come with it. Gain knowledge by implementing sustainable practices that has a better chance of success. For the next generation to come, so are the Farm related entrepreneurs who are looking for contract growing or partnerships. There are 3 prongs of this approach, 1. By providing various source of livelihood, permanent or seasonal skills that will provide potential

economic growth as we move. “SMALL but MANY” and start showing the potential and attract investors/clients and changing mindset for the farming community as entrepreneur and apply a different method called Sustainable Farming.

2. Reforestation/Afforestation of the property that has been a victim of illegal tree cutting used for cooking and fuel for drying/curing Tobacco leaves. Rain Water/Run‐off water catchment and other Permaculture design and methods. (Swales and Berms, Mini‐Ponds and Mini Dams), S.A.L.T, Soil bed imprinting and Vetiver to develop the property. b) Expected Immediate results: What will the project achieve? What changers are directly attributed to the project activities?

Sustainable Income‐ not rich but can sustain a family, sell the extra, add value by further processing into meat /vegie products via fermentation, small eateries which is the same to a typical 8‐5 plus Overtime paid worker or better.

If Partners/workers are steady, in due time, we could slowly increase our volume year after year. With an Organic certification of the Vegetables/Legumes and integrated Livestock/Aquaponic. The farm

produce will have more access to market with prevailing market prices for organic food. Various natural science knowhow , technical skills/creativity and entrepreneurship is exercised and can

create other opportunities. c) Projected Timeframe – Over what period of time will the project be implemented?

5 years. Please refer to Section IX We are on the 4th year of developing the farm (Putting in the infrastructure, gaining experience through pilot raising/gardening). The expected maturity of the bamboo that will be ready for harvesting is about 5 years, the mango is 7 years. Organic Farming and raising Chickens and Swine is within the 1st year of operation and starts 2015.

typhoon/rainy season Building new deep bed system for pig pens and chicken coops and raised it using Natural Farming

Methods and farm labels (example: Label Rouge) for chickens. Convert the existing pig pen as multipurpose facility (warehouse, workplace, guest house,

production/preparation of feed stocks, coffee house?.) Stable Water Source Infrastructure (Ferrocement tank storage, mini dams, ponds, drum barrels) Certification to Organic Farming. Training on proper bamboo management, mango management and sustainable farming and livestock

raising methods, fermentation/ food preservation and processing, recruit consultant/volunteer or hire or take in as a partner.

e) Are there any major risks of which you are aware that could affect the successful implementation of the project? How will they be reduced?

1. The risk of this venture is the surplus. To lessen this, setting up partnerships with private sector that will buy the products need to be established. AGRIBUSINESS AND MARKETING ASSISTANCE SERVICE

2. Sustainability of the project‐ We need people of likeminded thoughts, skilled and will require overhead expenses at the same time, Establish a more equitable profit sharing with stake holder as partners and should last. Refer to Partner Schemes for details.

3. By starting small, farm output can gradually scale up via selective contract growing or we handle everything‐ from raising to selling or food processing ventures. Require more cost improvements as we move forward. Pricing level tuned to local market buying power.

4. The Key thing is to establish the basic infrastructure, generate the revenue to get by and then get the

profit later by expansion until we reach its maximum eco systemic balance. Its huge and many opportunities is available.

5. Accreditation as a Certified Organic farm means we can be supported by the Department of Agriculture

through the National Organic Agriculture Programs as mandated by Republic act RA10068. Refer to our Certification journey diagram.

6. Not using our experience during our pilot livestock raisings to reduce livestock and plant seedling

mortality and lessons gained from Trainings through quick adaption to our methods.

f) Other features of the project which you consider important

1. Eco‐ tourism since it is endowed with water streams and country living. This is visited mostly by locals to cool down during summer. Farm tours, Knowledge transfer point as a livelihood, hence a suitable permaculture design is an integral part in the development.

2. Establish the Internet connection for regular monitoring from Singapore/or from partner investor location. By radio link to Telco. The Farm is a remote place and no available telco/landline.

3. Planting more legumes, bamboo seedlings, kakawate transplantation, fruit seedlings, flowers and vetivers‐ and Plantscaping the land. Refer diagram below.

Minimal negative impact in the environment if done right. Use of Natural farming method, skilled people and processes will mitigate any factory related production. By turning the farm waste to renewable energy/ organic fertilizers or recycle as a farm input (closed loop) and accreditation to Industry Standards. Carbon capture, Soil erosion prevention and non‐usage of petroleum based chemicals is another benefit.

A. Origin and Content h) Describe the region and community where the project will be implemented and the reason motivating the request for assistance

In general, the families surrounding the vicinity are economically poor. Key source of income comes from farming and trees. They will do anything to raise money for their children regardless if it’s hurting the environment. We, the owner and developer want to give the community a sustained source of livelihood using different methods practiced around the world.

The community’s main income is agriculture. Inter cropping rice or tobacco and corn from their own finances, loans or contract farming. Since this is seasonal they will head to the mountain and gather wood to sell. They also plant root crops, peanuts, mung bean which can withstand the climate in the mountain. Others do contract work in construction etc.

The main concern is regular source of income. School expenses for children and sustain their country life style. Some who are old enough heads to the city or out of the country to work or marry young.

B. Beneficiaries and participants

i) Who will benefit from the project and how will these be realized (Total number of

recipients and number of women/children)

There are estimated 200 households in the Barangay, 32 families in our own Sitio (Kampung or purok), that will be the direct/indirect beneficiaries of the project and businesses. Selective hires will undergo trainings and employed at the same time.

ii) How and to what extent will the beneficiaries participate in the implementation of the project.

The main workers for the project will be coming from Sitio Butak (Local workforce) as much as

possible. Everyone will undergo different trainings offered by govt agencies or private farm offering internships or specific skill transfer that we have acquired. And from schools requesting for OJT experience on host farms for their graduates. Or whoever (relatives or friends etc) has the passion to improve oneself and be part of it.

iii) When the project has been completed, how can this project remain sustainable? What will

the community’s future participation be when the project has been completed?

Sustained farm produce and grow in volume is the key task, there will be multiple phases for the different business ventures. Example, When there are healthy supplies of bamboo poles as well as mango fruits available, we can now start with Phase 3 which is furniture production, weaving and many other small handicrafts. Training is always a priority. Once accredited, Private/ NGO’s can be tapped to complement in trainings and acquire equipment for mass production in a small scale.

iv) How have you considered the differential impact this project will have on women and men,

boys and girls in the community?

It will take for some time to have a mindset change depending on circumstances. If they will benefit in terms of ensured daily income and technical training, this will be the driver. The key thing is sustained activity that shows we are there for good (Slow but sure) and able to see the development and they are learning.

Children will be exposed to lifelong skills at the farm and will contribute in producing more talented people on sustainable farming, entrepreneurial skills, arts and crafts. Sustainable Farming nowadays requires multitude of knowhow in natural sciences and other skills, such as permaculture, horticulture, agronomy, etc.

Provide host farm area for Tree Planting activities mandated by DEPARTMENT of EDUCATION Bamboo Propagation techniques at the FARM itself by DA‐ Bangar. Barn_Feet ‘s own funds for the complimentary snacks as a host farm.

viii) Any difference from the market competition The Market for Organically/Naturally or bio dynamically grown farm

produce is lacking in our town/and adjacent provinces in Region 1 where the farm is located. Region 1 comprises about 4 provinces.

Existing organic suppliers cannot cope up with the demand. Trend is getting wider, more are going into it in small portions(Backyard).

Some Farms focus on 1 or 2 produce only with/WITHOUT leisure component. (Monoculture with crop rotation).

LOAN SCHEME 1. Loan Amount of 2.5Million Pesos: Percent Interest at 25%

Payable: after 4 Years from Date of loan, end of year. (Example, Jan2015 loan date, payment due date: 2019 December. Principal Amount: 100% of principal amount: 2.5Million Pesos ( S$75,757.75) Interest Payable: 25% Total Due: 2,500,000+ 625,000=3,125,000 (Php), Philippine Pesos or S$ 94,697 (SGD) For negotiation: exchange rate: 33 Php/1 SGD‐ fixed. Or 44Php/1USD.

Purpose: Start‐up. (Refer above projected expenses and revenue) to turn it to combination of NATURAL FARMING (NF) , Organic and Bio dynamic concept and other projects.

Rationale: Prepping the Farm to Organic farming and producing takes time. At least 1 year from start.

2. If Partner investor is willing to continue : after Payment of Principal + Interest Date of agreement: January2019 Investment: 3,000,000 Php Sharing of Net Profit: 80:20 (after all expenses removed), or 80% to investor, 20% to Barn_Feet. Duration of agreement: 3 years

Purpose: to invest it on other equipment, expansion.

Business Coverage: Basis of Return for the Investment Options: Expanded Operation on Goats, Poultry, Mango, Bamboo, Piggery, Home Industries (Canning, Cheese making, Organic fertilizer making, etc).

Payment Due: every 6 months or every Sales Turnover (deposit to local bank)‐ wait for the right exchange rate before converting to SGD or USD then transfer to partner investor Bank

3. Investment: 5,000,000 Php on top of 3,000,000 (After expiry of Item 2) Sharing of Net Profit: 50:50 (all expenses removed), Payment Date: either every 3, or 6 months or end of year‐ to be agreed, or every sales turn over. Duration of agreement: Life time or as you please. Termination: 75% of invested amount will be returned if termination is done within 3 years from date of start. 100%, if after. Return of Investment: within 6 months of termination date. Exchange rate: to be agreed before signing the agreement.

Purpose: Capital expenditures on Bamboo processing equipment (or for Mango drying) packaging etc., Building Chalets, swimming pools, ponds etc. Buy beach lots‐ to complement the Agro‐tourism package).

Rationale: if investment is taken back within 3 years, the cost of purchased equipment, production is not yet optimized, and schedule payment to equipment manufacturer, suppliers, may be compromised.

Business Coverage: Homesteading, Training, ‐Build the Chalets, recreation. You can have your own private chalet that will be rented out if not in use (but you don’t own it). Use it when you come, stay there during your retirement years. Help us co‐manage the business. Let’s make it international.

Payment Date: every sales turn over. Barn_Feet portion of the share can be waived depending on partner/s performance but no obligation or not mandatory. Duration of agreement: 5 years renewable. P1. Project Title: SUSTAINABLE FARMING

Short Description: Using combinations of Organic, Natural and Biodynamic methods, low tech equipment of planting high

value crops such as culinary herbs and spices, various vegetables and integrated with livestock’s by raising

free range Chickens, Native with Localized Sasso breed, Native pigs and commercial poultry and pig breeds

and native goats. Part of the integration will be Aquaponic with Fish, soil less planting and Peking

ducks/local ducks. This will form part of the eco‐tourism in future for farm life and skills and

extract/improve local knowledge transfer. Highlight old practices by earlier farmers from local and all over

the world.

It is a form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, soil fertility, compost, and natural

pest control available at the farm. It is based on minimal use of off‐farm inputs and apply management

practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony by establishing the symbiotic

relationship of the natural resources in the land until it is harvested and processed.

This system uses the commercially produced fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, feeds, antibiotics, etc.

This system uses organically produced fertilizers as the means of fertilizing the soil. Pesticides and fungicides are also applied only when needed.

This system brings the soil and environment back to its original form where the nature works for the production of its needs.

Profitability

On Horticulture, the first few years profit is high. But with the continued use of chemical inputs on commercial fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides, the soil’s nutrients become degraded so that its profit goes down at the same time. For livestock, profit is very slim due high capitalization.

Profit can be high but can be eaten up by the high amount of inputs.

For Horticulture, the profit is high and will increase yearly. For livestock, profit is also high due to low labor requirement and low consumption of feeds.

Productivity

On Horticulture, during the first few years, the production is high but as soil becomes degraded, production goes down as well. For livestock, production is good, but its life’s span is short.

The easiest to produce at the moment are the following;

1. Soil based Vegetables: Cabbage, Kale, Pechay, Tomatoes, String beans, Cucumber , peanut, corn,

cassava, bitter gourd, squash, egg plants, kangkong, mung beans as crop cover, etc. 2. Soil based Culinary Herbs and spices (Oregano, Lemon Grass, Chives‐garlic, onion, ginger, pepper

and chilies, etc.

3. Fruits‐ Existing Mango (2 varieties), Native pine apples, banana, Tamarind and papaya

4. Water based ‐ Salad vegetables, Azzola, Kangkong.

5. Flowers‐ Orchids, Marigold, etc. (for aesthetics’, insect repellant and beneficial insect attractants)

6. Meat from Swine (Pork) and Goats (Veal), Duck, Chickens,: (Homemade Sausage, and Vegetable

processing (fermentation) and canning methods.
