Barlow Tyrie: a blend of traditional materials and contemporary designs

Our commitmentAt Barlow Tyrie, we only manufacture furniture of the highest quality, achieved by combining the best materials with our many years of experience. Our range of furniture includes many pieces that have won design awards and are frequently copied.

As the world’s oldest manufacturer of quality teak leisure furniture, Barlow Tyrie has diversified in recent years developing collections in a variety of materials. These have proved incredibly successful and feature strongly in the current Barlow Tyrie collection. Expert use of high-grade teak remains at the heart of the business and with demand for quality teak furniture on the rise, its use can be seen in several new Barlow Tyrie ranges. We make our teak furniture first grade plantation grown teak (Tectona Grandis) sourced from Indonesia.

The company remains a family business and is now in its third generation with Peter’s sons, James and Mark, working in management and product design.

Since 1920, we have remained a family business that specialises in the manufacture of teak furniture to which we have now added furniture in hand-woven synthetic fibre, Stainless Steel and powder-coated Aluminium.

Over many years we have expanded our choice of contemporary and traditional designs for the outdoor living ‘room’. Our designers have combined pleasing designs with ergonomic performance to create furniture that opens life outdoors to a world of stylish possibilities.

This life-size bronze of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill is a formal study of two great statesman, sitting chatting companionably on a Rothesay bench in Mayfair, London, England, (where Old Bond Street meets New Bond Street). This statue is called ‘Allies’ and was a gift from the Bond Street Association (the shops and businesses of Bond Street) to the City of Westminster to commemorate 50 years of peace. Lawrence Holofcener, a sculptor with dual nationality created this landmark and it was unveiled on 2 May 1995 by Princess Margaret.

CaymanThe Cayman Range; this style of furniture is modern, low maintenance and perfect for any outdoor living space. The range has a very contemporary design, combining a powder-coated Aluminium frame with non-stretch Textilene® sling (in 2 new colours) for the chair and sun lounger; making them comfortable without the need of a cushion. All tables are complete with our hard-wearing ceramic table top.

Cayman Range includes: Armchair, dining table and sun lounger.

MontereyThe Monterey Range is Barlow Tyrie’s interpretation of mid-century modern design, inspired by Monterey Bay on central California’s Pacific coast. An elegant set of furniture built using quality materials and refined traditional construction methods.

This refined style of a Textilene® cord chair and teak table with a ceramic table top, go together to create a truly impressive set of dining furniture. It’s reassuring to ‘know’ that our designer and craftsman have created a ‘true-classic’ in the making, with style and comfort.

TitanThe Titan Range is from our impressive new Rustic Teak Collection that uses traditional teak, cut from our A-grade of plantation grown teak, featuring knots and a varied grain pattern. This is part of the design ‘charm’. The black frames are crafted from powder-coated Aluminium extrusion. The name suits this robust design that is presented in a rustic look that will appeal to a variety of tastes and outdoor locations.

Titan Range includes: Armchair, dining table and backless bench.

LavenhamThe Lavenham seat is made from FSC certified eucalyptus, finished with a coat of teak oil. This attractive seat is built to the same exacting standards as the teak seats in the Barlow Tyrie range with beautifully smooth, wide, flat armrests, giving lots of room to relax and a handy place for drinks or books.
