This free event invites people of all ages to downtown Honolulu’s galleries and studios to view work by various artists. More than 20 galleries participate in the evening’s events, which include live mu-sic, street entertainment, wine tasting, and shopping in downtown’s antique stores. Guests can also experience the many bars, clubs and restaurants that make downtown a unique destination.

Art After Dark at The Honolulu Academy of Art:August Moon

The fifth annual August Moon features wines from more than 20 winemakers from Northern California, Australia, Oregon and Hawai‘i, small plates from top restaurants and chefs, and Drawn Out, an innovative art sale gathering more than 20 artists to create art throughout the evening. All proceeds from August Moon support the museum’s art education programs.

The event is a special opportunity for wine enthusiasts. Every sum-mer, Johnson Brothers of Hawaii selects a stellar lineup of winemak-ers that it represents for a tour to allow industry insiders a taste of their products. August Moon allows the general public in on the wine action.

The 12th annual Duke’s OceanFest will be held at venue sites throughout Waikiki, from Saturday, August 17, through Sunday, Au-gust 25, 2013. The 9-day event features a variety of ocean sports that were close to Duke Kahanamoku’s heart: Longboard Surfing - Paddle-board Racing - Swimming - Tandem Surfing - Surf Polo - Beach Vol-leyball - Stand-Up Paddling, etc.

Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer in Waikiki in honor of Ha-waiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is remembered as the greatest waterman who ever lived, and Hawaii’s ambassador of Aloha. Among his many accomplishments, Duke Kahanamoku was an Olympic gold medal swimmer; a surfer; an esteemed canoe steersman; a Hollywood actor; and the Sheriff of Honolulu.

The festivities commence on August 17, with a lei draping and cer-emony at Duke’s statue that is open to the public. Duke’s birthday celebration is on August 24th and is one of many of the weeks high-lights; which also include the KINE Luau, Waterman’s Awards, etc.
