THE STORY: A teacher is addressing his class. He lls a jug with big rocks and asks

the class if it's full. The class responds with a “Yes”. So, he adds pebbles to the jug.

He asks again if the jug is full, and again the class responds, “Yes”. He says “No”

and now adds sand to the jug.

The sand and the pebbles represent the small daily tasks we ll our lives with. If

we don’t t our big rocks in rst, our lives will ll with only sand and pebbles. BUT

if we start with our big rocks, we create room for what’s important in life - and the

sand and pebbles can only ll the spaces in between.

INSTRUCTIONS: This exercise helps you align how you spend your time with your

"real" priorities, your "Big Rocks". Start by answering the questions below, then

TURN OVER to ll in your big rocks and then complete the nal page to see what

changes you'll make from what you have learned.

  • Productivity is not about doing a lot of stu all at one time. Your BigRocks, and Little Rocks is about getting the important stu done. Beingbusy doesn’t get things done. Don’t ll your bucket with all the little stu(the sand), and then try to put your rocks in (Your life priorities) last. Fillyour bucket with your big rocks (what your priorities are) then ll it withsand (all the little things that keeps us squirreling). This is a why of knowwhat is important and what needs to be done. Yes, you will still need toworry about the little stu too. But at the end of the week, you can kickback, enjoying your life knowing that you’ve been productive. It makes ahaving a dog-gone kitty great day!
