ZONE — POÈME —
BARBARE | European Museum of Translation is a 28 episodes performance. Composed in relation with the 28 countries of the European Union, these episodes examine the foundations, the figures and phantasms of our culture, past and present. Dance solo, theatre play, concert, visual installation, film, performance etc, every episode (lasting maximum 20 minutes) combines to others to offer an organic travel, a journey on the ghost ship of barbarity.
We start from this point : there is no possibility of a universal language and build union in diversity (in varietate concordia). The European Union needs an open culture, made of sensations, structures, territories, and images that reveal the beauty of journeys, of border crossing, of the openness to the Other. This rich experience should be verse in forms of representation, in order to build new models, other languages, to mix forms and arts, and therefore, translate.
« The language of Europe is translation. » Umberto Eco
« To translate is to represent. » Antoine Vitez
CREATION 2021
In 2014, Simon Capelle leads a personal research around several important moments of the History of the twentieth century. He invites young people of his age to come with him in France, Poland and the United States. The documentation collected during the process allows him to question the transmission of History to young people and the traces left by events or ideas of the past on our lives. A singular concept emerges : barbarity, and the way it dialogues with the construction of civilization. Simon Capelle, who studied Humanities, links the dialogue between violence and identity in our contemporary world to the problematics in Antiquity and tragedy.
In the same time, since 2016, Mélodie Lasselin leads a profound research on the place of imaginary developed or suffered in the body and the choreographic gesture. She tries to clean her dance in order to let emerge what has not yet been made or instructed. This radical way which proposes to get rid of an inherited writing to welcome the unknown crosses the themes on which the two artists work together. Touched by the aspects Dionysiacs of dance, but also forged by a rigorous discipline, Mélodie Lasselin questions the signs of representation of which the body is capable at the border with the language, and the traces that these forms leave in us. As performers, their aim is real-time sharing, discovery and collective experience.
A strong contemporary theme : Barbarity
This creation starts in 2014 during a visit of Auschwitz-Birkenau with a young polish, Marius. How to speak, how to imagine what is not there anymore, what is missing, if we don’t realize of this emptiness, of this absence ?
Mélodie Lasselin and Simon Capelle both encountered dance and theater. From 2010 and on, and by meeting various stage directors and choreographers, like Jan Lauwers, Jan Fabre, Lisbeth Gruwez, their research turns to performance, where it is on stage or on sites and outside. The two artists combine a research on language with a choreographic development, giving all latitude to the imaginary, from within the gesture, the spoken word.

« We go and meet Europe : to discover forgotten countries, to drift from one end of the old continent to the other, to meet
the cultural specialists and non-specialists of each country. We walk a lot, we bring the material back into a room, shape it from our
harvests. We want to repeat, show and modify. We want encounters, a living material mixed
with subjectivity, stories. We like to work everywhere: in a theater, a museum, a park, the train, the forest, at home, here, there. »
ZONE — POÈME —
A trans-discipline adventure
Mélodie and Simon work with musicians, photographs, visual artists, scenographs to conceive a space between the museum and the stage. A living space always moving, where everything is realized in front of the audience to share the experience of translation, give the possibility to everyone to perceive the necessary processus of the transformation of episodes.
Every episode has its own color and a precise sound work, using atmospheres, interviews, talks, etc, recorded during travels. A place thought to dialogue between bodies and space.
The collective research around BARBARE imagines a story in different episodes – performances or shows – questioning the relation to the Other inside all the countries of the European Union. An ephemera and nomad museum of living pieces of art, in an enterprise of translation, always moving, with the desire to welcome the passing of the audience, to allow them to see, to hear, to feel a poetical, political, commune Europe.

Sound creation
QUENTIN CONRATE
It was primarily as a musician that Quentin Conratediscovered sound and its place in space. So it isnot by desire to practice a gap with his fieldbut to question the place of the body and the gesture in a sound space that his journey then turned towards dance and then the plastic arts. It is this background that leads him today to perform both as an improviser musician in several projects (with incomplete drums or field recording) and which makes possible the encounter with different forms of art, generating a multiplication of his experiences as an interpreter. In contemporary music, in musical theater (with the director Frédéric Tentelier) and around performative forms, whether they are his own or not. He had the opportunity to improvise in different corners of France and Europe and to perform on sets such as the Rhiz in Vienne, the Louvre-Lens or the Condition Publique in Roubai.

BAPTISTE LEGROS
After two years of studying the performing arts at the University of Lille, he followed a year of drama training at the Lille regional conservatory. In 2014 he joined La Cohue collective for the creation of the show Visage de Feu (Festival Impatience 2015) directed by Martin Legros. Then in 2016 for the creation of the show Oussama ce Héros. He co-founded the company le Grand Singe in 2015 for the creation of the show Int / Ext. Musician, he created with his brother the group Les Dents, they released in 2017 a first EP La Dent. Associated with the road collective, he participates in the project Les fausses cicatrices by composing the music with Benoit Duvette. In 2018 with Yolande Bashing and her out of tune revolution, Baptiste solo offers an electro song that is both raw and empirical. Between excited melancholy and sad rage, the disillusioned texts rub shoulders with haunting beats on the thread of trembling synths. He composes live music in many ZONE-poeme- projects.

After studying in Milan, at IUAV University in Venice and Bilgi University in Istanbul, she obtained her Masters in Photography at the University of Venice. His artistic approach focuses on an exploration of the interactions between the natural and the artificial; between the visible representation of reality at the border of the non-visible. In his work, the social and political dimensions of a subject play a fundamental role and it is during the realization of these aspects that the performative side of his gaze emerges. His current project, Musa x paradisiaca L., questions the conservation of biodiversity through biological collections. A preview of his work was shown at the Unseen Amsterdam Book Market 2018. Based in Berlin, she is currently working with Armin Linke.

ZONE —poème— was created in November 2016. This company wants to be as much a space of creation as a work in movement ; at the encounter between art and life, a platform for avant-garde and experimentation. Transforming the geography of territories into the poetics of bodies.
