Famous People From Barbados Robyn Rihanna Fenty: The Bajan who recently soared to the

top of the international music charts, young Robyn "Rihanna" Fenty started out studying music in one of the oldest secondary schools on the island. The latest R&B sensation took the world by storm with her debut song "Pon De Replay" reaching number 2 on the Billboard Charts in September 2005.

Rupee: Born in Barbados Rupert Clarke, to a Barbadian father and German mother, Rupee is one the best known artists in the musical movement known as soca. Although already popular in the Caribbean, "Tempted to Touch" from his second album enjoyed over two years of international club play, and became the catalyst for his worldwide deal with Atlantic and his new album "1 ON 1". The young artist received the NISE Service Excellence Champion pin for 2004 from the Barbados Prime Minister amongst other recipients including Sir Garfield Sobers.

Sir Garfield "Garry" Sobers: Arguably the world's greatest ever cricketer, Garfield St.Auburn Sobers began his life in the parish of St.Michael in Barbados. He commenced his first-class cricket career at the age of 17, and five years later set a Test Cricket record scoring 365 runs in 614 minutes. His record stood for 36 years, only one of his outstanding achievements in the world of cricket. In 2000, Sobers was named one of five Wisden Cricketers of the Century, earning 90 votes out of a possible 100 from a panel of experts.

Irving Burgie: A pride to the island, is the creator of the lyrics for the Barbados National Anthem and is recognized worldwide for his music and lyrics of 'Day-O' the song most commonly associated with the Caribbean to this very day.
