obtained

the missionaries of the
Associated
Christian
Churches
in Kenya
Inc.
Under two presidents, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and
Daniel
Arap
Moi
there has
been
stability
and
^ace since independence
in
the
fifties
There
IS a strong bond with the United States Presi
dent Moi IS a member of the African Inland Church
and
sets the pace of supporting church missions.
^
Pokats are
one of
the poorest and most primi-
tive tribes in Kenya. Because the area
was
a
part of Uganda it has been unevangelized and
remains unreached by western progress
that is
spreading through
the rest of
Kenya. These people
are anmists,
numbering
200,000.
They have
his-
storically
survived
largely with rreager farming
and goat and
cattle
herding.

Co-founders , Dr. Larry and Mrs.
Ellen
Banta,
developed this min is tr y i n an
attempt
to respond to the needs
of
the growing
population of displaced,
traumatized, mentally
i l l and physically handicapped
children and their
families.
They hope also
to
promote and
support
ministries
mon
the adult
mentally ill population
as well
Dr.
Banta is
a
graduate
of the
University of Nebraska
Medical Center.
He has had post graduate
training in general
medic ine, general
psychiatry
and
child psychiatry. He has
extensive experience
in
public
health
and
primary
health
care
development.
Ellen
i s the daughter of
former missionaries to India,
Archie
and Marguer
i te Fairbrother. She graduated
f rom Dakota
Bib le Colleg e with a 8.A. in early
childhood
education and a
B.Th.
in
missions.
She has experience in
teaching
and program development for preschool children.
The
Bantas
have t hree ch ildren , Ethan , Hea ther and Nathannael. In 1978
Dr.
and Mrs.
Banta spent
three months
in
India on a
hea lt h c ar e
development
project.
From 1982 84 they
with their children served
as
missionaries in
Kenya
East
Africa. Several
clinics
and one church were established as a result.
I.C.F.O.
will
begin operation in the Boise area
in
April 1988. The min-
.
ist ry will
be
supported
by
donations, seminars, and fee-for-service
when
possible.
The Bantas will be

Dr.
Banta working
a t
a

time

community.
