Literacy and Numeracy happen every day for
young children, as they interact with resources
and people, prac sing their understandings
and knowledge. Building Waterfalls 2 states 3
outcomes ‐ children are learning to
*explore and expand ways to use language
*extend their understandings and engagement
with texts
*extend their understanding and engagement
with symbols, pa ern systems and
numeracy concepts.
Prior to Prep – a child can recognize their name;
engage in shared reading of familiar texts with
repeated language pa erns, spends me looking
in books and other print materials, tells a story
based on pictures or names pictures, a empts to
read words in the environment.
Together, we all share these moments with the
children every day on their Literacy and
Numeracy Journey.
(We will share other aspects of the Literacy
Con nuum with you during the year. As children
enter Prep, some Prep teachers use the Early
Start Tool to ascertain where each child is on
these Con nuums.)
Collec ons – we look forward to the children
sharing their natural items during this term.
What amazing holiday adventures do they have
to share?
What does Kath have planned for this term????
She is ready to go….
Finally, we know that mornings can be challenging
ge ng everyone out the front door and to
where they need to be but it helps your child’s
day to be on me and to start with the other
children.
Please ensure the front door locks behind you, as
you leave. The lock is being turned and we are
concerned that visitors are able to walk in,
without ringing the bell.
Elec on Day Drinks Stall – thanks to all the families who were able to help out in a variety of ways in order to make this fundraiser a success! We raised $450 from the stall. A sincere thanks to all who worked hard to make it happen.
Commi ee Mee ng was held Wed 13th April

7 Kid-Friendly Yoga Poses To Avoid Morning Meltdowns
Ge ng kids up and ready in the morning is like playing the world’s biggest game of whac‐a‐mole. Once you’ve solved one thing, another issue pops up. No one wants to get out of bed and it goes downhill from there. It’s enough to turn the first part of the day into the worst part of the day.
So here is where a natural mood shi from yoga can help. Breathing and stretching through a simple and quick yoga rou ne can increase blood flow, improve circula on, and bring oxygen to the whole body. Giv‐ing yourself and your family even three minutes to twist, bend, and breathe can go a long way to a morn‐ing that flows. Here are seven poses that will help you to avoid the early drama and bring a posi ve beginning to your day:
1. Sun Breath Inhale and reach your
arms out to the sides, lift up to the sky and exhale
and relax your arms back down.
2. Tummy Twist Twist your whole body from side to side and swing your arms back and forth.
3. Volcano Lift up on tiptoes and reach your fingers high.
4. Ski Jumper Bend your knees and bring your chest down toward your thighs. Sweep your arms back.
6. Mountain Stand tall and press down
through your feet and stretch your spine long.
Roll your shoulders back and press your palms to-
gether.
7. Awake Sit with your legs crossed.
Your spine grows taller, your shoulders roll back,
and rest your hands on your knees.
5. Lightning Bolt Bend your knees and glide your hands
high.

• Use wholemeal bread instead of white bread. ‘Zebra’ sandwiches are a great way to introduce kids to wholemeal bread: use one slice high fibre white and one slice wholemeal. For extra fibre, why not add some grated carrot and sliced cucumber to a cheese or peanut butter sandwich.
• Save time in the mornings by making sandwiches the night before and freezing them. This will also help keep the sandwich cool once in the lunchbox.
• Make the most of leftovers. Save time and money by packing dinner leftovers for lunch the next day. Use leftover mince (from spag bol or chilli) to make homemade burritos: simply add some shredded lettuce and grated low fat cheese and wrap up tight in foil. Left over rice and pasta dishes are also perfect for boxing up, as are boiled eggs, cold frittata or rolled up omelette. Be sure to keep these items cool with a freezer block.
• Soup is a great winter warmer. Simply heat soup in the morning and pack in a thermos, and it will still be nice and hot at lunchtime. Add a wholemeal bread roll for extra fibre.
• Introduce the kids to vegies with a small vegie patch in your backyard or on your balcony. This gets them involved and learning about healthy foods, and they’ll love eating what they grow!
• Look out for the Tick when you’re shopping. Many lunchbox fillers are Tick approved and make lunches instantly healthier. Tick foods have reduced levels of unhealthy saturated fat, trans fat, salt and kilojoules (energy); and more healthy nutrients such as calcium and fibre.
