Box 10003 Van Nuys, CA 91410-0003 alfred.com Matrix is a contemporary piece for concert band employing driving syncopated rhythms and interesting harmonies. It features an unusual solo percussion section utilizing woodwinds and brass as auxiliary percussion, with hand clapping, foot stomping and the tapping of a pencil on the side of the music stand. Strive for a tempo fast enough to be exciting, but not so fast that the snare drums cannot achieve precision on the rolls.A tempo of at least MM=120 is desirable, and MM=132 is ideal. The style beginning at measure 38 should contrast with the vigorous opening section without slowing the tempo. This section takes on almost a half time feel and should remain legato until measure 58 . Beginning at measure 88 , care should be taken during the percussion break to keep the "body percussion" from overpowering the rest of the ensemble. Try to obtain as much balance as possible between the two "percussion" groups. Preview Only Legal Use Requires Purchase

Matrix is a contemporary piece for concert band employing driving syncopated rhythms and interesting

harmonies. It features an unusual solo percussion section utilizing woodwinds and brass as auxiliary

percussion, with hand clapping, foot stomping and the tapping of a pencil on the side of the music stand.

Strive for a tempo fast enough to be exciting, but not so fast that the snare drums cannot achieve precision

on the rolls. A tempo of at least MM=120 is desirable, and MM=132 is ideal. The style beginning at

measure 38 should contrast with the vigorous opening section without slowing the tempo. This section

takes on almost a half time feel and should remain legato until measure 58 . Beginning at measure 88 , care

should be taken during the percussion break to keep the "body percussion" from overpowering the rest of

the ensemble. Try to obtain as much balance as possible between the two "percussion" groups.
