HIGHLIGHTSJANUARY — APRIL 2017———————————————————————————————————We launch our Spring 2017 season with the return of acclaimed roots outfit Edward II, who will be joined by special guest Jennifer Reid. Other January highlights include a rare screening of the inspirational music documentary Landfill Harmonic, an EP pre-release party for Manchester’s hottest hip-hop prospect J.Chambers, an intimate show from contemporary jazz drums maestro Magnus Öström and two huge nights with the Riot Jazz Brass Band, who are rocking up to the venue to record a new live album. January also sees old-skool drum & bass return with a bang as we welcome Dillinja behind the decks .

February kicks off with the Abstract Orchestra performing works by hip-hop luminary J Dilla, before we host Liam Bailey for a full live show — the singer-songwriter known to many as the voice behind the Chase & Status hit Blind Faith. As the month rolls on we see the return of MC DRS’ Summit — a special edition of his new bass music party to celebrate the launch of the new I Will EP. February also sees the return of A Queer Revue! for A Queer Contact special, a rare performance from deep soul icon Betty Harris and, of course, our monthly party with the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club.

For dub reggae fans, look no further than Band on the Wall in March as we bring Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry back to Manchester, and jazz heads can feel satisfied too, as the Neil Cowley Trio return, we take Bill Laurance on tour, and the hottest UK electronic/jazz crossover project, Yussef Kamaal perform in the venue. Other highlights include a night with soul powerhouse The Excitements, electronic Afro-funk wizards Ibibio Sound Machine and what promises to be a very special concert from Los Angeles’ Miles Mosley and the West-Coast Get Down.

In April we are throwing two huge parties at Old Granada Studios — we’re bringing 2-Tone heavyweights The Selecter and The Beat to Manchester for a massive double-header, then taking over the venue for the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club, with a full live set from New Orleans’ Hot 8 Brass Band. We also welcome the return of cosmic jazz luminaries, the Sun Ra Arkestra, under the direction of Marshall Allen, plus the second edition of the Jazz Directors Series, this time featuring saxophonist and composer Chris Potter. Other April highlights include a fascinating performance from sound artist Manu Delago, modern jazz vocalist José James and US/Mexican outfit Orkesta Mendoza.
