UCP’s Annual Award Presentation – Person of the Year: Massachusetts Representative John Barrett, III
UCP is honoring Massachusetts Representative John Barrett, III for his dedication, generosity and advocacy to people with differing abilities and their families. Representative Barrett is also a strong supporter of H.146, a bill that positively impacts the lives of people
with developmental disabilities. The goal is to help them gain access to assistive technology, leading to more independence
in their lives at home and in their communities.

About UCP
With a 70-year history of serving people with Cerebral Palsy (CP), we now have the knowledge & skills to support children & adults with a wide range of disabilities, not just CP. Therefore, we’re more than our name. 80% of those we serve have disabilities other than CP, including Down Syndrome, developmental and physical disabilities, Autism and others.
We serve people with disabilities in Western MA with programs designed for children, adults and families.
Our services include:
• Children’s Programs: Early intervention, Birth to 3, Assistive Technology Evaluations & Tools
• Family Support Centers: Educational Advocacy & Service Navigation
• Programs for Adults: Smart Home Housing, Residential In-Home Supports, Employment, Community Connections
• Programs for all: Assistive Technology, Disability Resources and Advocacy, Free Loans for Durable Medical Equipment
Our goal is to provide a lifetime of support, at ALL levels of need and at ALL ages and stages of life, from infants to seniors.
About Jessie’s Girl
This band has mastered stunning renditions of the world’s most vibrant songs, all while dressed up as the unforgettable characters of that decade! Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, and many more come to life right before the dazzled eyes of the crowd. It is theatre, meets live music, smothered in 80’s glitz. This band puts on a performance like no other…you have to experience it to believe it. Visit the Band’s Facebook Page!
Your Support Makes a Difference for a Lifetime We need your help this year to meet the growing demand for:
• Our underfunded Children’s Program to provide UCP kids with clinical support like Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT) and Assistive Technology (AT).
• UCP’s Radio Reading Program for the blind so we can upgrade our equipment and radio tower.
• The new Wheelchair Accessible Van for transportation. We’re happy to announce we’ve almost met this goal thanks to the generosity of early sponsors. Thank you, kindly!
Our goal is to raise $100,000 this year.
We now serve more than 3200 people with disabilities and their families in our State. The Benefit Concert’s proceeds will help UCP meet the growing demand in the disability market.
– Nearly 1 in 4 adults have some sort of disability in the U.S. and in Massachusetts: 22.5% (CDC)
– Across MA, over 20,000 citizens care for a family member with an intellectual/developmental disability. (ADDP)
– About 1 child in 59 has been identified with autism spectrum disorder. (ADDP)
– Disability costs in healthcare expenditures are staggering in Massachusetts. (CDC)
