His four companions carefully had checked out every crackA sudden termination forced them all to double back

The only way he could've gone was down tht crawl insteadSo they cleared out all the breakdown and they found his tracks ahead.

The contemplated leaving him but soon forgot their pride They knew they'd have to find him though their patience had been tried Their anger changed to worry when a mile ahead they foundHis muddy carbide bottle lying there upon the ground.

They picked it up and hurried on, they soon became awareOf the teasing murmur in the stream, the silent heavy air

Then suddenly his footprints stopped, they 'd vanished in the blackOf a yawning pit so ominous they felt like turning back.

They knew then what had happened, no use looking anymore They hadn't the equipment to ever reach the floorOne threw a rock, a faint splash echoed back from far belowPerhaps he had found Canyon, it ' s too bad he'll never know.

They reached the Cascade entrance just before the break of day They gathered all their climbing gear and returned without delayBut they never found that water crawl, a rockfall had occurredSo they scribbled out an epitaph and left without a word.

Well he never walked out Canyon so he must have been delayed

But many still contend that a connection has been madeNo one knows for certain, but the story that they tellSays he dropped into that pit connecting Cascade Cave to Hell.
