YOU'RE A MISSIONARY?

Do you wonder JUST HOW CAN A CONCERT PIANIST BE A MISSIONARY? I hopethis information will help you understand. The best place to begin is thebeginning.

Gerald and Rosemary Baleyi were married December 22, 1950. In 1952 after afrightening, horrendous pregnancy and life threatening delivery we becameparents of a beautiful baby boy! Almost immediately, we were told we would haveproblems, as our son Tim, delivered with high forceps, received brain damage. We chose to dismiss the Doctors words from our minds. Ugly reality soonsurfaced as the endless tests, examinations etc. followed. We were told Tim wasmentally retarded, and had mild cerebral palsy. Medical advice was for us toinstitutionalize him, forget him, he'd never read or write! Had it not been forour families, friends, and our Lord's strength and guidance the years thatfollowed would have been impossible!

However, so much happened in these years and God's plan in our son's lifewas at work from the very beginning. As each step unfolded we foUowed HISleading, even though it seemed hopeless when we had to finally submit to thedoctors constant advice to institutionalize him. Resisting this advice becameimpossible and at the age of 13 we placed him for ev€iluation at a special centerin Denver. Defeated, crushed are so inadequate to express our feelings, and wecould not see how good would come forth. However, God had given Timextraordinary gifts. Upon arrival at the center he was put under a 30 dayconstantly supervised, unstructured program. It a wsus there he found his greatlove for the piano. He worked relentlessly to get his right arm, which wasrigidly bent at the elbow, and the third and forth fingers difficult to control, upto the keyboard. The left arm and hand, quite limp, lay at his side respondingto involuntary spastic movements. He determined to get the right hand at thekeyboard and soon was playing one finger tunes, eventuaUy adding two fingers, and then two hcuids. He was off and running and though there were many yearsof struggle, in 1979 he gave his first concert That night he announced to us,"I want to be a concert pianist!" There is so much background in the monthsand years prior to this statement... But from it came our MINISTRY!

Society rejects handicapped people, especially mentaUy handicapped, NOTbecause of lack of concern in most cases, but:

THERE IS AN INCREDIBLE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING

LACK OF HOW TO COMMUNICATE

MOST OF ALL: FEELINGS OF *WHY BOTHER WITH THEM?' (THEY'LLNEVER BE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY)

1 - Had it not been for the Lord - would our home be together? It is very-doubtful, Parents and families struggle in their homes. We knew from experienceand desired to help them cope in anyway we could.

2 - Churches need to reach into the community to help these people andtheir families. This need is so great! There are 20 million veople in the USA -in some way, to some decree, handicawed: of these, 6 million are mentally

handicapped - MOST of which are in the "MILD" decree. THEY CAN LEARN!3 - God's gift to Tim is rare and unique. We knew he could serve HIM if

we, his parents, were the instruments of His direction. He has a wonderfulrapport with audiences, suid barriers toward handicapped people are broken afterone of his concerts.

Page 2: Baley-Gerald-Rosemary-Tim-1993-International.pdf

3 - All people need to be challenged to the fullest to use their talents forthe Lord! Through Tim's concerts, one realizes where he has come from and howGod has blessed his efforts, and there is a realization that HE WILL BLESS USALL! "I CAN DO MORE," is said consistently after he plays.

In 1980 we changed our ministry from Bible College teaching and MusicEvangelism, focusing on education / and Tim performing. Our main efforts wereto help bridge the gap in the above mentioned areas.

Additionally, we help raise funds for churches, community and nationalorganizations for the handicapped people. (A special emphasis is placed on fundraising for homes. As Christians we have been able to be a great influence here.

There is MAJOR EXPENSE involved in our work. To make the concerts

acceptable to the majority we do NOT charge. We ask for FREE WILL offerings,or an honorarium, and expenses (IF POSSIBLE). However, there are numeroustimes we receive but feel there would be a real loss in an opportunityto witness when such requests are presented to us, and we would not beprivileged to go to many of the places we go, and touch the lives we are ableto because funds are not available.

MISSION SUPPORT maintains our living expenses to a great extent andmonies from the concerts are put back into the ministry itself.

Just a few expenses Include:1 - A newsletter sent to between 2500 / 3000.2 - Art supplies, and photographing of Tim's art work which are a part of

the concert presentations. A HUGE project!3 - Projectors (dual), bulbs, and dissolve unit, (to show the slides made from

Tim's art) which are correlated to the music he plays, printed brochures for theconcerts, etc.

4 - Office supplies, postage, printing, phone etc,5 - Vehicle for travel, and upkeep, insurance, gas oil etc. When we go a

distance, a rental car is needed, as our van is not safe to take on extendedtrips.

6 - Concert clothing.Over and over people express how Tim's music effects them. We see the

effectiveness of the ministry even though it is not a verbal communication.EXAMPLE: A young man had tears running down his cheeks hugged him andsaid, "Tim you have changed my life and my thinking forever!" Also, a youngman a minister had worked with for a long time, came forward after a concertand accepted the Lord. The flood of emotion was indescribable as he told of hisfeelings. It is not unusual for people to accept the Lord after hearing Tim.

Without contributions to our work, it would be impossible to maintain ourministry. Thus, we are so grateful for ALL gifts and ask for your consistentprayers for our Lord's guidance, strength and wisdom to know HIS will.

Thanks for caring and sharing! May God Bless Us All.

spring / summer 1993

I spoke of ly youDgest brother, Clyde, in the last Notebookand our strawberry patch episode. Veil, I had lots to live Mithin ly grovisg up years, as another brother, Wayne, precededClyde a few years. Together they really gave le fits! Ofcourse, I now realise it was in love (well, I like to thinkthat) but no one could have convinced le of that in lychildhood! Mother often chuckled when she talked about Vayneand his loving care for le as a baby. She said he would beg tohold, feed, rock and even wash ly diapers! I was their cuddlybaby sister, and they would have done lost anything for le.lave was very obvious. Our children, faiilies, neighbors, theworld are all affected by love. Ve will do lost a&ythiog forsoieone we love but would we die fo?: thei? Vhen I think of

God's love for le, I find it hard to believe! Tn our huiaonature we cannot begin to understand the iftfj/tii of 1U3 la'/s insending His son to the cross to die for ALL of us. But I doknow with assurance Re did! [John 3:16-17] I know too, I lusthave a love that goes beyond that which is easy to love, suchas a cuddly baby, it will and lust include those I would rathershy away froi, Hith His help I CAN reflect this love. OH, howthe world needs it! By the way, if you wonder...do I love lybrothers... don't tell thei, but I sure do!

many miles / smiles and trialsThe new year was just around the corner when I said adios in

our last notebook. January was a treiendously busy lonth! Igot the last notebook lailed to Bur] Shoeiake, our wonderful, faithful printer, but ly usual relief was not there. Thecalendar seeied eiblazoned with GET VITH THE [NCOME TAX!

Concerts scheduled in January were not out of state, and as isusually the case it is not a busy tiie. F was able to keepabreast of what needed done. It was a fan tiie, is January, atthe beautiful SKY VALLEY EAST RV PASS IN Desert Hot Springs(near Pali Springs). This lovely coiiunity is lade up of KANTsnow birds froi across the country, who enjoy each other aod thewonderful wan winter California sun during the winter lonths.Their welcoie to us was as wan as the sun! A return trip tothe area to a sister park, CALIENTB SPRINGS followed a few weekslater. What is"said about SKY VALLEY is certainly 'ditto'here! Ve were aiaeed that there were a DUiber of people therefroi across the country who had been in a concert elsewhere. In visiting, we had a tinge of sadness as leiories surfaced ofour happy years RVing in 'ifSLOOr our lotorhoie.

It took several years of atteipting to lakc connection withthe Castro Val ley Christian Church, (near Oakland) but when NarkI.eepcr, linistcr, called asking for February 12/13, T said,'It's yours!' The event was a Love Banquet held cach yeararound Valentine Day for adults of the church and their friends.

Don and Gexgia George, Tinfteenary and Jerry Baley

You lay recall ve were having horrendous rains at that tiie, butit was beautiful on February 12, (5:00 a.i.) when we left andreiained so till we got hoie. Until you witness the planning, effort and organisation these people put into this occasion youwould not believe it! The coiiittees work froi one year to theneit planning every detail to perfection. There were eleganthors d'oeuvres, fine cuisine and elaborate decorations. When theevening was over one would be hard pressed to say it was inferiorto any 5 star hotel! They had decorated the dining area as aParis sidewalk cafe, with paintings, flowers, table decorations, all handiade. The ultiiate was the seeiingly lillions of itsybitsy crystal Christias lights stapled to black plastic on theceiling for the stars. One was truly star struck! Additionally, they lade an area into a lovely art gallery for Til's painting, and a sign to go with it. Their efforts have certainly beenproductive as the tickets sold so fast they had to add an extranight. We felt honored to share in this beautiful and leaningfulevent. Tii was received lOOX plus and we caie hoie feeling we"Left our hearts in beautiful Castro Valley" instead of SanPranclsco. Another plus, dear friends Gail and Earlene Volfe,San Jose, and Linda Sutton, Santa Clara drove over for the event. The next day was partially free, so Earlene and Gail caie backover and we continued chatting over lunch. Another wonderfulevening followed, then a bit of sleep and we were hoieward bound. Our prayer Is, the Lord allows a return visit.

Traveling to and froi we would he going on the Interstate nearBakersfield where our dear friends Lois and John Allen live. How

luch we wanted to see thei, but needing to be in Castro Valleyearly, there was no tiie to go the extra distance, we couldn'task tbei to leet us so early. Amingly, the night before theyjust happened to call, and we told thei where we were going. Asyou have guessed, the/ aet us! Breakfast was wonderful, and weplanned for lunch as we returned hoie. The fun didn't end there,

believe It or not

As we were nearing Bakersfield Jerry said, 'This car by lewas passing but now it has slowed!' California is known for gunhappy people on the freeways. Was one beside as? I carefullypeaked around Jerry's head. 'It's Shallie and Toi and thechildren!' I practically shouted. Shallie is the lovely daughterof our friends of 40 years, George and Dorothy Menge. Sh? andToi live in Kanteca, California, not too far froi Castro Valley.I wanted to call and tell thei of the banquet, but felt it wouldbe an iiposition for thei. I fretted the whole trip about notseeing thei. Toi passed us, pulled to the side of the highwayand Jerry drove up behind hii. Ve had a freeway reunion! They

were on their way to ADaheii and planoed to call as. KOT a goodplace to Tisit so thej let as at the restaarant we were to leetLois and John. Though we were shocked we had this unbelievableexperience, appetites were unaffected, and we all enjoyed lanch.le did not fail to thank God for the blessings of this wonderfultrip and travel weather. The heavy rains caie when we got hoie!

Many schools have handicap awareness prograis so we feelprivileged when we receive a request. There is no greateropportunity to challenge young people, and lany have little orno direction in their lives. February IT, we were scheduled forCantara School in Reseda (Los Angeles School District). Therains had been so heavy but that lorning it was clear. Theprincipal said a problei existed. Two concerts were scheduled, back to back, with lunch in between. The auditoriui served asthe cafeteria when it rained, otherwise the children ate in thepatio. There would need to be a tiie adjustient to set uptables, clean up after lunch, and ag«in set up chairs if itrained. After discussing it we went out and looked at the sky.'Twas dark, but not bad! The principal said, "We'll go for thekids eating outside as planned!* They did - a terrific day and,oh yes, the rain caie after we arrived hoie. God is SO good!

ready for our pending toar. Tiie was so precious and it seewedthe doctors were given tore than their share. Jerry and Tii hadroutine check ups and at the saie tiie colds and touches of flu. They bounced back. My turn to get checked over. Good for theshape !'• in too. Then a week before we were to leave I hadS0MBTHIM6 bad. Back to the doctor, no voice. You're sick, shesaid! Thoughts of cancellations were uppenost, but each daywe thought I'd be better toiorrow. Another trip back to thedoctor, advice best NOT TO TALK even if I could. Mext day readyor not, the calendar said beon your way. le were doing severalprograis, soie we sang in. We thought we would have realprobleis, but I was able to sing and speak, with only linordifficulties and croaks! It is obvious the wonderful peoplealong our way, lany prayers and God's strength was the answer.I said RUDOLPH'S IIOSB was dii coipared to line.

March 12...We lade it to the starting line and on our wayvery early. Rest as we traveled was so nice. By 3:00 p.i. wewere safe in Sun City, Arisona at our dear friends Clayton andWilia Griistad. The table was spread abundantly and Wilia hadinvited Paul and Veronica Bnabnit (let thei first in Enid,Oklahoia) for an early dinner. Clayton and Wilia had anengageient, so Paul, linister to First Christian Church in SonCity, took us .to the church to set up for our prograi for theMen's Prayer Breakfast next lorning. Bed was early and neverso coiforting, I don't think!

March 13...Up early. Our award - great breakfast and greatbunch of len too! After lunch, a change of clothes and off toParadise Valley Christian Church to set up for the next day.Our friend the linister, Charles Kerr, Jr, let us and soon wewere in great shape for the lorrow. Tiling was just perfect toleet Clayton, Wilia, Paul, Veronica, and their special friend,

Virginia Gibens at a MBIICAN restaurant. Virginia is abeautiful 93 years young lady who is lore active than lany 30years her junior! For starters this sprightly, tiny one lakesjewelry, paints, takes organ lessolis etc. Tii was in awe withher (so were we). Arelaxing and fun ending to a perfect day.

March 14...Short on voice and energy, so we did not arrive atthe Paradise Valley Church until tiie for the Concert. However, great 'rejuvenators' awaited us in the wonderful audience. Alongthei Betty Canary, a college rooiiate; also ly cousin. DaleBrechbuhler, who caie froi St. George, Utah; there were alsofriends froi the Phoenix area, and of course Charles Kerr'sfaiily we have known and loved for years. It was an upliftingexperience for us, and it continued as we enjoyed a bountifulpotluck dinner, lext we packed up and over to the Sun Citychurch where our evening concert would be. Dale stayed with usthe rest of the day. His luscles, and assistance were atreiendous help in tearing down, then setting up again! Now,back to Griistads for a reunion with Donna andToi Hard, fonerlyof Denver, living in Scottsdale, Arisona. We reiinisced overdelightful food, but not long, as concert tiie was shortly. Apacked house, reunions, joy and exciteient were all a perfectcliiax to this unbleiished day! Tii revealed this to theaudience. A feeling of sadness caie over os as we said ourgoodbyes to all and then to Dale. We tried to convince hii weneeded hii to go with as!

TEXAS txMjnd - covering lots of ground!March 15... Our physical alans were not in sync with the

alari that blasted at 4:90 a.i., bot-we obeyed-itff^coiian<k-Soon we were en route to B1 Paso, Texas with an extra aiount ofanticipation. We had not had a concert in B1 Paso since we lovedto California in 1986. A perfect travel day lade our plannedarrival right on the button! Since UNCLE SAM says pay up we hadscheduled a leeting with our 'M MD7, Lea Clark (also a dearfriend who has done our taxes lany years). Our plans were toenjoy dinner, after tax was done! A lessage at the desk of thehotel told us her husband, Sai, was in the hospital with a brokenleg. We were shaken but anxieties eased after we learned he wasdoing well. Sai INSISTED we do our thing without hii. Weresisted, but in the end we did. The tiie was wonderful, butSai's absence left a void! Food at Pancho's filled another void.

March 16.. .Over to the Eastside Christian Church, to setup forthe evening concert. We were wanly let by MANY there preparingfor the evening, including their fine linister, Brent Craier. It was such fun to visit, but tiie was passing quickly so we gotin gear and soon all was ready. The need of food was felt, sothat was taken care of by Jiiiy and Narilyn (Wood) Coster.Marilyn knew Til's passion for Mexican food - no problei what toeat! She is special to us, so we cherished the tiie with her andher new husband Jiiiy. Tii loves thei both, but when he sawJiiiy's truck, Jiiiy was elevated to royalty! Tii gave aresounding WOW! We had tiie for a quick visit to the hospitalto see friend Sai. We gave hii a hard tiie for going to suchlengths just to get out of going to dinner! We love thei so andthanked God Sai was doing well. Back to church - dressed forconcert - then we let Ralph and Francis Leiion and Bill and

Page 5: Baley-Gerald-Rosemary-Tim-1993-International.pdf

Roberta Burr for dinner. So luch to talk about in such a bit

of tiie, but we lade the lost of every ilnute. They all havefun in clowning around with Tii, but be assured lie dishes itright back! Most of our friends in El Paso had not seen Tii'sart or a slide prograi. Marilyn and the staff at Bastsideworked hard in publicizing the concert and our hope to see lanywas realised as a capacity croi(d honored hii. In return it wasobvious he was electrified! Their applause produced MO&Eadrenalin, and he played his heart out. The eiotions of theevening and short visit will never be forgotten. El Pasowill always be one of our lany HOMES and we say THAMES FOR THEMEMORIES! It was hard to pack up, harder to go to bed and notvisit with our hosts Jii and Sheila Lotspiech, but another veryearly exciting day awaited us.

March 17, a great traveling day as we headed for Midland,Texas, so pulled into Midland Christian Church in good tiie.Friends, Bobbie Duncan and his wife Connie, linister to thisvibrant congregation. Bobbie's associate linister, DavidRobertson, lade set up a breese, and soon he took us to leet ourhostess, Dolores Gaines. She was as charting as her beautifulhoie. le felt refreshed after hot coffee, and a nice bath, thenoff to the church. Texas does things in a big way you know sothe church had a feast of brisket, followed by a big crowd atthe concert.. They also had a dazzling Grand as a loaner for theconcert. Til was engulfed with its beauty and tone. WHS fi?

KW froi El Paso are living there now and we enjoyedbrief visits. Oh, foriore tiie! Two free days followed so wehad planned a bit of sight seeing. However, depleted energy, exhaustion, and trying to use ly voice got to le so the tiie wasspent resting, lostly in bed. I thought what a waste as the bugstill was with le!

Even so we looked forward to our next stop, Denton, Texas(near Dallas). Ve let Joe Pinson, our host, years ago not surewhere or when, but thankful we did. He has proven he is apowerful advocate for the developientally disabled. For yearswe tried to get together, finally the tiie was HERE. Joearranged a BIG tiie and our visit was laid out to perfection,so though busy, it was easy and a JOT.

March 21.. .First concert was with the Cuiberland PresbyterianChurch, le truly enjoyed John Lindsay, linister and thishospitable congregation. Acoffee tiie allowed for soie gettingacquainted. Mext a hurried lunch and then Joe had arranged aterrific tiie at the State School in the afternoon. Hisstudents perforied for us, individually and collectively, thenTil played for thei. One would never doubt the value of lusictherapy if they would see Joe's accoiplishients with his people!Added to this pleasure we were surprised seeing Jenny DeMar, herlother-in-law, Mrs. DeMar, Dennis and Dawn O'Banion, andchildren. Their faiilies told thei we were going to be there.Jenny and Dawn were such lovely young girls when we loved to ElPaso M08 they are LOVELY young lothers. Such a thrill to seethei and part of their faiilies. Soon we were off again, tofreshen up for the evening concert. On to the Towne NorthBaptist Church where Joe had worked with Carl Barrington,

linister and Gary Nelson, lusic linister, arranging this event.Vhat a crowd and response. To highlight it all, anothersurprise! Bill and Dorothy Morgan, so dear to us, were there.Oh, for lore tiie to chat! Before long the day was capped offwith a tasty dinner in Joe's hoie, prepared by his lovely wifeSara. Their children Marty and Joseph graced us with theirpresence. Joe's Christian influence and testiiony was not onlyseen in his hoie, but in everything we did while in Denton. Howblessed we were for this heartwariing tiie!

March 22...Lazy this lorning but it seeied we awakened early,as it was a cloudy day. As we traveled on to Lockhart, Texas, weather reports spoke continuously of storis; torrential rain, hail and flooding by counties. Ve traveled on not knowing whatcounty we were in so we were unaware of any probleis. The skylooked fierce and we were in rain. Ve had no probleis until westarted back to the hoie of Don and Georgia George (lore friendswho had lived in El Paso]. Lockhart is a lovely siall town, withcountry terrain. Ve had perfect instructions to their hoie. Allof a sudden there seeied to be raging waters lost all around us.Ve were successful in getting back to the road to their hoie. However, we could see it was going to be a problei. Soiedistance ahead, we saw a truck sitting, then it slowly backed upand turned around! Vhat a welcoie sight to us! It was Don,coiing hoie froi work and he was afraid the bridge could bewashed out. Of-course he saw us, and waved for us to follow.Ve went back roads to the only other way to their hoie. Noprobleis until we got near the house and it was the saie thing, but this bridge was ceient. Don, so faiiliar with the situation, studied it and then caie to our car and said he would go throughand if he lotioned we could follow. Ve held our breath andprayed! Vater roared over the bridge, but Don went slowly andarrived safely. He lotioned so Jerry began creeping throughsteadily, easily. The waters were COLD, AMGRY, SVIFT and MUDDYbut the tense tiies were gone within linutes as we were SAFELYin Don and Georgia's hoie! Georgia did not know what hadhappened and was concerned where we were and thought we light trycoiing through the way they had lapped us! Veil, we allcertainly had prayers of thanksgiving. Ve larveled at the Lord'stiling! Ve pulled up when Don was there, but a few linutes laterhe would have been on his way around to the other bridge. He hadno idea if we were at the house or not! Georgia greeted us withwarith, hugs, and a wonderful dinner.

March 23.. .Sunshine welcoied us as we awakened. Breakfast wasover, everyone was ready for the day. Don left on his way towork, Georgia and Til were ahead of us and we were to follow herto the Lockhart Interiediate School for a SOON to be concert!Suddenly there was a BULL running down the road! He had escapedfroi Don and Georgia's fence! Had to get hii corralled. Easiersaid than done. Georgia tried to edge hii back with the car.Be didn't like that. Ve drove ahead and parked our car sidewaysin the road. Siart fella, he went around. He was bullheaded!Don saw what was going on in his rear view lirror, he caie andtried too. No luck! It was getting very late. Georgia left Donincharge, took us to the school and raced back to help Don. Donoutsiarted the bull and went back to the barn, got a bucket of j

Their responsewas really enthusiastic and aft^r, Tii had a great tiie talkingand signing nearly 600 autographs. The kids were patient. Donand Georgia introduced us to a favorite Bar B-Que restaurant forlunch. Ve were really happy for that acquaintance. Also, theyhad planned an open house in our honor for any who wanted tocoie in the evening. Tii's art was displayed and he playedthroughout the evening, lhat a cherished tiie this was! We letso lany new friends, as well as seeing those froi prior visits. Also we thrilled at seeing Judy and Preston Stivers, forierlyB1 Pasoans, now living in Lockhart. The weather was asbeautiful, as the evening we enjoyed but now tiie to pack up asthe calendar says go hoie! Vhat blessings had been ours.

March 25...Ve sipped right along the last day of this tour;but afternoon weather forecasts said lore California storis wereloving in and rain would be heavy the next day in Arisona. after lore trips to the doctor and ledicine. I was late gettingcaught up and before we knew it the next trip was due. Astronger force overcaie the desire to stay hoie, with only 14days between trips, I began the preparation to hit the road.

Our van is laden with liles, so we rent a car for long trips, thinking it would be less likely to have car trouble, ie pickedup our car the evening before, (office not open as early as weplanned to leave) and we were ready for our early departure,

sorry to say / i'm NOT going todayApril 8...To arrive early in Flagstaff, Arisona we wanted to

leave no later than 5:00 a.i. Ve were on schedule. Jerry andTil got in the car, I hastily turned on the burglar alan andjoined thei. Ve asked God's care on this another journey thenJerry turned on the key. Mot luch happened...the 1993 new carrefused to get going! Bnd result...wait until the rental agencyopened at 7:30, they would bring a new car. Vow, whatfrustration! I couldn't help thinking of ALL the sleep we couldhave had. Jerry finally did get it started, so we inched overto the agency. Soieone caie at 7:00, we changed cars and by

7:30 we were on our way. The Lord is wonderful at calling if youask Hii, we asked! The rest of the day went nicely. Ve weregrateful for lotel reservations in Flagstaff. MO VA6AMCT SIGNS!

April 9...A flawless day and by early afternoon we reached ourdestination, Bio Bancho, New Mexico. It was GOOD FBIDAT and ourconcerts this tiie out were 'Beflections at Baster'. Toi Siith, linister of the Bio Bancho Coiiunity Christian Church, plannedwell and set up was speedy. Abeautiful/coifortable rooi allowedbrief relaxation before we let John and Nancy Bokert in the hotelrestaurant for dinner. They were friends froi our Denver daysso we talked OLD tiies. Many were gone over Baster vacation, even so, the crowd was great and not resistant to respond and Tiiappreciated this. Again we thrilled at seeing so lany froi pastdays; Bill and Bula Lane (Tiiwould visit thei often in B1 Paso)LeBoy Mills, latie (Leiion) and Boger Gribble (El Paso], andBette and Darrel Fields. Bette and I worked together in Denverfor years. It seeied so unfair to cut short conversations, butsoiething is better than nothing. Made the lost of a briefdessert tiie with Bette and Darrel before taking advantage of thewonderful beds.

April 10...A fine day in every way, except I still straggledwith the horrible bug! It was an effort to keep going and worsetrying MOT to talk but, the kindness of lirk and Denise Allen(linister of the Plui Creek Cononity Christian Church in CastleBock, Colorado) lade things easy and pleasant to set up, as wellas the assistance of oar hostess lathy Galloway. After wefinished Kirk (Denise had a conflict) and children treated us todinners- Then ta the Gftl4owa7^-ieifr'4nd.^eaU8ing-I-wa8-4»8ar|̂[so were they), lathy and husband Don excused os for an earlyretireient.

April 11...Baster dawned in radiaot beaoty and glory! Addingto this splendor was a tasty breakfast at the church, followedby the well planned lorning service. Ve presented 'Beflectionsat Baster' as a portion of it. Such a big crowd and lany to talkwith as I still struggled with ly voice. Shortly after packingup we were back at Galloway's and lathy and Don hosted a groupfor a fantastic brunch. Ber beautiful creativity was not onlyseen in their lagnificent hoie, but continued on into hercooking. As we were enjoying the food and fellowship, cloudswere loving in rapidly over the loontains and it becaie quitewindy. The snow stori that was forecast seeied to be ready tovisit. Don and Tii had walked out on the golf coarse looking forballs, so as quickly as they returned we were on our way toArvada, Colorado (north of Denver). It wasn't too long until wepulled into our best of friends for nearly 40 years. Bay andBettyDnderwood. Ve could hardly wait to see thei, and since wehad arrived it could snow if it had to.

April 12...I awakened early and opened the drape a tad. Itwas SHOVING! I said, 'Thank you Lord for our safe arrival.* andwent back to bed. Ve had planned a bit of rest with Bay andBetty and what joy it was to visit and play scrabble. Snow fell, soietiies heavy, for a few days; tiie went so fast and we had tolove on!

April 17..There were 18 nissionary displays so lots ofpreparation to be ready for a 3:00 p.i. beginning. Tii had abail helping with art work for the various signs above thedisplay booths, le finally got our display set up, betweengreeting dear friends, fe hurried back to the house for a quickchange, returning for the bean soup/corn bread supper. It wastopped of with cobbler and ice creai. SOPBRB! Leavingtoiorrow, so packed all that I could when we got hoie.

April 18...The lorning was filled to capacity with variouslissionaries taking part and the sensitive audience showed suchappreciation to all. Oar part was the final episode and weclosed the Fair with 'Reflections at Easter*. The finale wasFOOD for the body! So MUCH / so GOOD.

Til was scheduled to play for Very Special Arts Wednesday, the 21 St. If we waited to leave Ifonday we would not get intill Tuesday evening.. There would be trip 'hang-over* andlittle tiie for practice. Thus we hurriedly left after thedinner and were packed up and on the road by 2:15 p.i. Vestopped for rest in Albuquerque, New Rexico at 11:00 p.i.

April 19...A short night, a beautiful day, siooth traveling.By late after noon we were at the Arizona California border.¥e decided it would be easier to go on boie than stop, unpack, pack up again. Also, I still felt badly and was eager to gethoie. SO with HIS never ending protection this tour wascoipleted safely at 10:10 p.a.

greeted us with a HUGE tray of beautiful fresh fruit for ourbreakfast! ffhat a way to start our day!

April 21...Til was rested and eager for the Very Special Artsperforiance where he did a segient of 'Reflections Aiericana'.It was a part of the benefactors benefit which opened the'Iiagination Celebration' that is held throughout the countryfor about one week every year. If you aren't faiiliar with itMATCH for it in your coiiunity next year! Terrific.

the bug I had. Did as little as possible in May and have finallyquit coughing! I wonder however, when I will really feel A / OKagain. One thing bothers le; how could it be SO MANY others haveit when I didn't give it away?

Usually I tell little about area concerts since space is apreiiui and ly eiphasis is that of a travel log. However, we aregoing into lore schools, and credit this to 'ReflectionsAiericana'. In May Tii perforied for St. Coluibans, in GardenGrove, Abrahai Lincoln, Siii Valley, (part of Los AngelesDistrict) and Coiiunity Christian in Oxnard. ALL of the childrenwere aiasingly interested, appreciative, and standing ovationsand cheers were lany. Their cognisance for art, lusic andlearning lore about handicaps seeied to far surpass their years! He are filled with eiotions as feelings are expressed in verbaland written ton. Quotes froi children froi all 3 schoolsfollow: [1] 'I ai a great lover of art and have been wanting toplay the piano but have not been able to play. Tour paintingsand lusic have so luch leaning to thei. Going in that rooi andhearing how.God worked inside you lade le believe lore and loreof God. Tou lade le realise how luch God loves us all anddoesn't care how we look but is how lech we believe! Thankyou.'...[2] 'I won't lake fun of handicap people anyiore! I'llreally try to help thei.'...[3] "I was interested in Tii'sperfonance. Thank your for showing le even through tough tiiesnever to give up!*...[4] 'I ai very grateful for the beautifulconcert that was given. Tii, I loved the fantastic pictures. They go great with the concert. I especially liked the slide ofthe golden Lincoln Meiorial statue. It is ^reat! I liked itbecause Lincoln is ly favorite president, ffell, have fun atother concerts. I hope people appreciate your lusic as luch asI do.'...[5] 'Thanks Tii, for your spectacular perforiance. Ido not think I will ever forget it."...By getting into theschools we have an enorious opportunity to challenge, lotivate, and educate!

fe accept every opportunity possible, to help organisations,in fund raising who assist the Handicapped. Tii perforied fora benefit for the Child Guidance Center held at the Los CoyotesCountry Club in Torba Linda, California. The seal they have toassist children was lost evident and our day was so pleasing.

Through the years we have spoken of Frank Scott, Til's teacherin Pall Desert, California. Beside his expertise help, there wasan additional bonus, we have becoie wonderful friends! However, traveling so luch and freeways so VSRf BBAV7, it becaieincreasingly lore difficult to travel the 110 liles (oneway) forlessons. The Lord allowed our paths to cross with Don Sewell, head of the Music Departient of Pacific Christian College. He,too, has kindness and 'specialness', about hii, the qualities andabilities needed to teach Til. End result, lessons are nowweekly if we are hoie, instead of lonths apart!

In our lail was an envelope froi an unfaiiliar address. Oponopening it, we were delighted. It contained an invitation toFrank's wedding to Audrey Roseland, the vocalist in hisorchestra! All of our plans were put on hold, this was apriority. Frank and his lovely bride were larried in Pali Desert

Sounds of the beautiful Christmas music have been delightful tohear once again, as Tim has been practicing for the soon to beseason of concerts. Ordinarily I love it, and the Joy of themeaning and warmth of the season floods over us. However, as Iwrite this, the skies are heavy with dense grey smoke, and it's notrising from blazing fireplaces which smells good. It is that ofthe horrendous fires that have ravaged southern California, andseem endless. Our stomachs are in knots, lumps in our throats, care and concern is endless for all who have lost homes, and are insome way battered by this raging inferno. Explanation! I don'tknow of one. But we can be assured our heavenly Father is incontrol and this is where our faith and trust are exercised to its'

fullest. People are in shock, devastated, and at the time of theyear when there is such happiness there are many hundreds ofdisplaced families. Perhaps the true meaning of this season willrise above the tinsel and holly, and should that be the case, blessings will flow endlessly, people will not be the same. Ourprayers are endless for such. . .It has not been a real happy month. We have not been physically affected by the fires, but theemotional upheaval is powerful and in addition we had ANOTHERburglary. It was on Tuesday, October 19th between 9:00 p.m. and6:00 a,m. They entered the patio, evidently over a 6 foot plus

^ . fence and undid the bolted gate thus allowing easier access forA other co-horts. Next was an unsuccessful attempt to pick the

deadbolt lock on the small garage door. No problem, a DOGGIE DOOR,I 8 X 13, allowed someone VERY SMALL to be pushed or wiggle through!

Since our last burglary Jerry had put very large bolts through thedoor, and unplugged it each night. Well, they removed the bolts, crawled up and threw the lock on the electric track and manuallypushed the door open and helped themselves. Someone leaned thebroken doggie door back against the outside opening it hadcovered on the small garage door, BUT they failed to close the gateas they left patio. I can't help hut wonder why. Police showedlittle interest. Burglary is a way of life here. We lostconsiderable in small items, appliances (irons, radios, vacum etc.)but God's blessings were again seen, A cigarette and its' asheslay Just a fraction from a sheet covering a table! All of Tim'sstored art, extra slides for our slide presentations, and memoirsare in the garage... I am having very serious back problems again. The doctor says it is definitely another disc. Yesterday he wantedto send me for pre-surgery tests! I said no way, after 4 backsurgeries, but he says there is little else to do. I did have xraystaken and will see how they compare to last ones. PRAY that thepain will ease and the leg feeling will improve! Pray too, for ourwork to continue, there is so much at this time of the year. Wehave a tour scheduled to Arizona in December. . . We have had numerouswonderful concerts, and Tim loved the event at the NIXON LIBRARY.It is so beautiful... No, it has not been the best month, but Hisblessings abound and we trust HIM for all things. THANKING,PRAYING FOR AND LOVING YOU. Bye, bye for now and God Bless You.

No need to tell you summer has said FAREWELL, however 'methinks' mother nature is real mixed - up! The coolest summer in 45years was ours to enjoy, but NOW we are forced to Jack up thosecostly air-conditioners! Was so in hopes we would be spared that, but with near 90 temperatures, we keep it off as long as possible,by afternoons it is unbelievably hot in our house (littleinsulation)!

Fall activities are also underway. We are still doing mostlyReflections Americana concerts, but several of the new program.Reflections of Something Beautiful are coming up. Jerry and Timadded some extra paintings (actually quite a few) so they are beingphotographed now. Ideas continue to flow even after a program isthought to be completed. We appreciate so very much Bill Morgan, who does much of our photography, and the slide computer graphics. He is not only expert in photography but his creativity is atremendous asset and we are so grateful. Bill was President of ElPaso Christian College when we were there, and he and his wife,Dorothy are dear friends.

One of our out of town concerts this month took us to Escondido.

We were especially happy, because this is where Jerry's cousin,Maxine, and her husband Tommie live. Tommie (you may remember Ispoke of him having a stroke previously) is now in a rehabilitationhospital. Since we were going to be there, we went to the hospitaland Tim gave a concert for them at their BIRTHDAY celebration. Itwas especially nice for us because Tommie had only heard Tim playon tape. We were able to have a nice visit with Maxine, and thenshe and some friends came to our evening concert. It was at alarge retirement center, and we thrilled with their response to theconcert. We spoke with several people who were experiencingdifficulties with handicapped individuals in their families. Also, another lady has a son in a center in TX. The state has cut mostof the programs he excels in. She is devastated, but cannot bringhim to CA (funds) nor can she care for him. Also, the agerequirement allows no one under 55 at the retirement center. Wegave her some information and names in TX and pray for her to getthe help she needs. Please, remember these people, if you will. There is such Joy in our work, but it is also full of sadness whenwe KNOW personally Just how they feel.

Tim has been invited to play at a VERY SPECIAL ARTS fund raiserat the new RICHARD NIXON LIBRARY. VSA asked handicapped artists tosend paintings depicting the '200th Anniversary of the U. S.Capitol' for this event. Now they will bring the display, fromWashington, to the Library for 3 to 4 months. The show opening andVSA fund raiser is Oct. 28. We look forward to seeing the Library.

We sincerely thank you for all you do for us in supporting ourministry. Please keep us in your prayers. Remembering you!
