I M A G I N E Inspiration goes hand in hand with creativity and imagination. We want to create a world of opportunities - a universe without limits - but space to float in the higher altitudes to see everything in a new perspective. The world of dreams – reaching for something new, different or unconventional. The skewed angle - the desire to challenge the conventional forms, functions or formulas in High Performance Concrete.

I N N O V A T E

Ready to try the untried. Let the process unfold as a play, while aiming to achieve new performance and results. Pioneering spirit united with the knowledge and skills to challenge and to be challenged by the outside world - customers, partners and the unknown. We are a center for innovation, which brings useful knowledge and translates it into valuable solutions with High Perfor-mance Concrete as the center focus.

I M P R E S S Be impressed and impress others. Create an expression that inspires enthusiasm and sympathy. Because of the aesthetic quality or because of the functional properties. High Performance Concrete solutions invite you to express and to impress. They appeal to all senses and create experiences among people all around. We will not just be known for what we say - but more for what we do.

The business areas of our growth strategy extend far beyond the classical construction indstry. We seek to utilize all of our experience and knowledge about High Performance Concrete from one business area to create value in others - as an inspirator, knowledge communicator and catalyst.

HOUSING INFRASTRUCTURE ENVIRONMENT SAFE URBAN

Page 4: Balconies and stairs

A new generation of concrete structures can now be achieved in a minimalistic and elegant design –and at the same time be a completely new conceptual building system optimized for function, transport and assembly.

Our most used High Performance Concrete is CRC® – Compact Reinforced Composite, which was patented by Aalborg Portland in 1986.

The CRC® products are unique as they combine the free shape ability of concrete, the strength of steel and a higher durability than both steel and normal concrete.

This makes CRC® superior in extreme environments where complex or slender shapes are requested and unique structural properties required.

VALUE CONTRIBUTIONOur strategy encourages development and cooperation across the construction industry.

• All solutions are based on the needs of our customers and all other parties involved in the construction pro-cess in order to provide the best total value for all.

• Innovative Solutions is a goal for us towards new and better building practice in the industry.

• We gladly participate in the early project phases with expert knowledge about development in order to facili-tate beautiful and effective solutions in the end.

• We always strive to deliver the “best total solution” for customers and all other parties of the construction industry.

UHPC BINDERS

The range of our High Performance Concrete products are all based on a group of cement binders generally known as UHPC binders (Ultra High Perfor-mance Concrete). These binders are all relatively new and can be used in many specific mix designs to accom-modate numerous types of applications.

Our most used binders are:

CRC® binders Our most common and well documented type of UHPC binder.

CRC JointCast® binders A special variant of CRC. CRC JointCast® is a dry-mix system primarily for strong joints in onsite applications.

THIN CANTILEVERED BALCONIES

The architects’ dream of thin, minimalist cantilevered balconies without visible support has driven our development for many years. Therefore, it would be safe to say that we are the world’s leading supplier of these types of balconies.

The balcony is supported by a console attached to the deck. A cast-in Isokorb® reduces the thermal bridge. Anchoring of the console can be varied as needed.

BALCONIES ON COLUMNS AND BEAMS

These types of balconies are often used when a light building cannot support the relatively large forces from cantilevered balconies. There are countless possible combinations and designs - and the systems are very flexible for adaptation to all types of buildings.

An edge beam increases the span between the columns. The system is suited for long galleries and

very large balconies.

BALCONIES WITH PARAPET

When parapets are integrated with the balcony into a complete unit, you have access to the advantages of beautiful monolithic structures and efficient installation with few part deliveries and minimal time on site. These balconies are very flexible in design and have many conceptual possibilities.

Balconies are placed on brackets at the base and ad-justed in place with struts or parapets at the top. This

solution has a minimal area that breaks the facade and can often be retrofitted.

BALCONY SLABS

If the supporting structure is designed as underlying beams or frames of steel or concrete and you still desire a strong and beautiful balcony surface – it is advantageous to use one of our balcony floor solutions.

Thin unreinforced slabs are supported per max. 600 mm. Thin reinforced slabs are placed in a frame. Several slabs can be pieced together into a larger

section.

THIN CANTILEVERED BALCONIES

Often we can use all, or part of, the bottom slab of the existing balcony for the installation of a new, strong and beautiful Hi-Con balcony. Moreover, we can often increase the area of the new balcony solution – without increasing the load on the building.

The size of the new balcony is adapted to the load capacity of the existing balcony. The building envelope is not penetrated during assembly.

BALCONIES ON COLUMNS AND BEAMS

When renovating, it is often critical to adapt to the capacity and conditions of the existing building. With our systems for balconies on beams and columns, you have great flexibility for adapting to the building – achieving beautiful and slender aesthetic solutions at the same time.

The very thin slabs are supported primarily by the columns, and the load on the existing building is minimal. Column placement can be adjusted according to carrying capacity and aesthetics.

BALCONIES WITH PARAPET

In renovations you often have specific limitations as to the inclusion in the old building. Using integrated parapets as corbels, we meet most installation requirements for older buildings. At the same time this makes it possible to preserve exactly the same expression as the old concrete balcony - made as a new, strong and light Hi-Con balcony.

Few support-points, relatively low loads and simple adjustability during assembly make the system

suitable for renovation.

ACCORDION STAIRCASES

Combining the high strength of CRC® and steel fiber makes it possible to produce these slender and elegant accordion stair cases. Here steps and risers carry themselves without stringer supports or mounting in the wall. This provides a simple and minimalist design.

The span determines the thickness of the steps. For a very slender staircase long flight can be divided

into shorter partial flight.

SPIRAL STAIRCASES

Hi-Con’s spectacular spiral staircases are distinguished by their slender and elegant design.Step thickness is approx. 40 mm., which gives an airy and light expression. The staircases are delivered with or without risers.

The individual steps are stacked and the cavity of the ring reinforced and cast. Subsequently, the spindle

acts as a column that carries the staircase.

STAIRCASES WITH BEAMS

For long spans, beams can ensure that a staircase is supported in an integrated and elegant way. This means that the steps can be made very slim and the total expression of the staircase is simple and harmonious.

Two beams with loose steps can be supported in a simple manner. If a single central beam is used it

must be fixed in a way that ensures the transfer of torsion in one or both ends.

HELICAL STAIRCASES

The structure of the helical staircase is very dependent on the high strength in CRC® compared to normal concrete. Most helical staircases in CRC® are installed using CRC Jointcast® as the staircases are often made as a series of smaller elements assembled on site.

The spiral beam acts both as pillar and a beam. The elements are assembled on site using

CRC JointCast®. The ends of the staircase are restrained to transfer the torsion.

AESTHETIC SURFACES

The properties and formability of concrete makes it possible to carry out surfaces in an unlimited number of aesthetic textures. Hereby, the final expression can become exactly as you wish - and with exactly the function you want.

Concrete thus differs from several other materials that often are more static and rigid in their sur-face expression. Exploit this ability to create unique and beautiful solutions that otherwise would be impossible.

COLOURS

Besides element shape and surface structure, you can play with the colour of the concrete. Although the typical natural colours are grey, white and black - it is, in principle, possible to have concrete in all colours.

Often the colour is yet another function - be it in relation to the overall architectural expression or to create more or less attention on a specific part.

ANTI-SLIP SURFACES

Anti-slip surfaces are particularly useful in hallways or similar, where it is appropriate to guard against slippery surfaces in wet and humid conditions.

The surface design can vary in the infinite - only your imagination is the limit. Thus, you have great opportunities to create extraordinary solutions, which include a high degree of required functionality. Below you can see our standard surfaces.
