CHANDRASEKARA BHARATI SWAMIGAL
Sri Chandrasekara Bharati was the 34th Acharya of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. He was both a scholar and highly respected saint. He is regarded as a “Jivan Mukta” which means a person who has attained Moksha while still alive. Chandrasekara Bharati Swamigal was born on October 16, 1892 to Lakshamma and Gopala Shastri. He was the 12th son of Lakshamma and Gopala Shastri. His birth name was Narasimha. He studied at the schools of Sringeri and Bangalore. He became an expert in shastras at a very early age. Narasimha excelled in his class. He was very fond of chanting the hymn Mookapanchasati. Once while on his way to the market, he was so engaged in chanting it, he went far beyond the boundaries of Sringeri and only realized it after he finished chanting it. At the age of 20, he became the head of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham. He renovated the temple of Sri Sharada and established it as a center of learning Vedic shastras. The Acharya before him, Sri Narasimha Bharati Mahaswami gave him the sannyasa name “Chandrasekara Bharati.” He had the rare power to transform, by a mere glance, even the non-believers of God into believers. He was able to explain, with great ease and humility, any subject that anybody brought to him. Although he was a very learned man, he did not have the least ego. Sri Chandrasekara Bharati Swamiji left this world like a true yogi at the age of 61, on September 26, 1954.
