15-103472 BAKERSFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Greg Williamson, Chief of Police Contact: Sergeant Joe Grubbs Public Information Officer 661-326-3803 [email protected]For Immediate Release May 7, 2015 On May 5, 2015, at 2:29 pm, Bakersfield police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3500 block of Cathedral Rose Dr. regarding the victim of a gunshot wound at that location. Once officers arrived they discovered that 18 year old Bakersfield resident, Sheldon Croney was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hand. The investigation revealed that earlier in the day Croney and a juvenile friend were at another friend’s residence located in the 4300 block of Rock Lake Dr. when Croney and his friend found a handgun. The handgun belonged to the other friend’s father who was away from the residence at the time. Croney manipulated the firearm causing it to fire, striking him in the left hand. Croney’s friend transported Croney to the residence on Cathedral Rose Dr. where police and medical aid were dispatched. Croney was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment. There were no other injuries reported. The firearm was seized and the investigation is on-going.
