Bakers Narrows Provincial Park 145 hectares of Precambrian Boreal forest Campground Tips • Help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Always “Clean, Drain, Dry and Dispose” when using watercraft or water-related equipment. • Build no fires except in a designated firepit or use a camp stove. Food must be stored away from your campsite, preferably in a locked vehicle, to avoid attracting hungry animals. Do not store food in you tent. • The use of insect repellent will add to you comfort. • Learn to recognize and avoid poisonous plants such as poison ivy. • In case of injury or illness contact a Campground Attendant or Park Patrol Officer. They can assist you to reach medical help. • Canoeists and hikers travelling in backcountry areas should advise a friend of their intended destination and anticipated length of trip. • Backcountry camping is only allowed at designated campsites. • It is illegal to use or transport elm firewood. • Moving firewood can spread harmful invasive species and destroy our forests. Protect Manitoba’s trees. Don’t move firewood. Located just south of Flin Flon, Bakers Narrows Provincial Park consists of 145 hectares of Precambrian boreal forest. An angler’s retreat, the park is hidden in the vast mixed forest of coniferous and deciduous trees of the Canadian Shield. Lake Athapapaskow, with its clear blue waters, offers not only tranquility, but also excellent trout and walleye fishing. The name “Athapapuskow” means“rocks on both sides” or “rocks all around” in the Cree language. Travel the waters by canoe or motorboat to see if you can spy great blue herons, double-breasted cormorants, or common loons. In addition to the many types of birds who live in the park, you may also find yourself upon the trail of a moose,mink, or beaver. The Bakers Narrows scenic tower offers spectacular views of the forest, rock outcrops and crystal clear waters. Surrounded by the deep, yet vibrant greens and blues of the landscape, read the tower’s interpretive signage to learn how the history of the area was influenced by those who utilized the area’s resources, from early inhabitants to modern industry. Driving east from the park will lead you to nearby Grass River Provincial Park. While you are there,hike the Karst Spring self-guiding trail. Bakers Narrows campground provides sheltered,private campsites which have either electrical or basic service. Centralized showers, modern washrooms, as well as group use & picnic areas are also available. The beaches in the campground provide swimming opportunities, and playground equipment is located throughout the campground. Hiking, boating, wildlife viewing, photography, and fishing opportunities await. The boat launch gives easy access to those wishing to be on the water. Those interested in the Flin Flon industry sector can tour the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company throughout the summer.
