We of Global Missionary Ministries are doing this at the beginning of this new year of 2000. As we recall happenings from the past and consid er our vision for the future, we say with resolve that our life and work is tied in with missionary outreach in Eastern and Central Europe. This has been true during the past four decades of the last century. Having been under different names with different emphasis in Christian ser vice, we can clearly identify ourselves with such names as Toronto Christian Mission, Ring the Bells—Polish Mission, Global Missionary Radio Ministries and now. Global Missionary Ministries. As we collect our thoughts, or perhaps as we think of GMM's upcoming Annual Board Meeting (end of February), or as we strive to keep you, our friends, better informed of the Lord's work through the efforts of GMM, we can see how the Lord is preparing us at this time for future ministry. With a name like Global Missionary Ministries and realizing that we live at the dawn of the third millennium, which brings us ever- changing technological advancements, we rec ognize that we must be prepared to proclaim the message of Christ "to all nations" (Matt. 28:19). Poles, Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians today live all over the world. Radio is one avenue of spreading God's Word. The Internet will now take us even further. As the Lord opens doors of opportunity before us, we are ready to enter through them to different ways of serving the Lord. GMM's partnership missionary outreach to the Slavic world continues to expand. Starting with evangelism we are involved in a church planting ministry. Radio, cassette and outreach through the Internet is at our disposal. The Christian camp ministry is in full operation. We take an active role in outreach to the Jewish community in Poland and Eastern Europe. We continue to produce Christian literature and help needy people with benevolent aid. Also, for the past ten years have been able to assist students who are preparing for future Christian ministry from the Benjamin Bajenski Memorial Fund. These are some of GMM's involvements. We thank God for His faithfulness over the years, and for His Spirit that empowers and motivates us to do His will. But we also thank you for your prayers and support of this ministry. We pray that God will keep you and guide you in all His truth, as together we serve Him through out this year and new millennium. We do not know how long He will allow us to serve Him, but we desire to continue to faithfully share the Gospel message, until Jesus comes. VOLUME 23 JANUARY - FEBRUARY, 2000 NO. 1

We of Global Missionary Ministries are doingthis at the beginning of this new year of 2000. Jeff Ponke

Some may remember my story from previous "Criers." God brought me home to therealities of Christ's death and resurrectionthrough the tragic death of BenjaminBajenski and the powerful witness of hisparents, George and Vera. On May 26.1991 the Lord gave me courage to stand upfor my fledgling faith in Christ and on thatday I was baptized. Shortly after, I went toPapua New Guinea with Teen MissionsInternational. There I dedicated my life towork for our Lord. Other short term missionopportunities followed. During each oneGod taught me lessons for life.

I had the opportunity to go to JohnsonBible College for one year. Then I pursueda Biology degree at Wheaton College. Ientered Medical School at Queen'sUniversity in Ontario in 1997. In Decemberof 1999 I officially ended lectures and thatwas a day of celebration. Soon I will startclerkship work in the hospitals for the nextyear and a half (it is like a hands-on medical

apprentenceship).Iwait for the Lord's leading for the future,

as I desire to obey him. I would like to be amedical missionary, and witnessing forChrist is something we all have opportunityto do daily. "Be very careful, then, how youlivenot as unwise, but as wise, makingthe most of every opportunity" (Eph. 5:15).

    David Karel

My name is David Karel and I am theson of Peter Karel who is a minister in thecoastal city of Kolobrzeg, Poland. Threeand a half years ago, through the help offriends, different churches and PolishChristian Ministries, I had the opportunity tocome to the United States to study atJohnson Bible College. Idecided to enroll inthe communications program, whichIncludes radio and TV production andbroadcasting as a tool for spreading theGospel. I learned much. Since Johnson is aBible college, the greatest amount of timewas spent on Bible-related topics andissues. This has been a blessing and givenme spiritual growth. In May my schooling at

  • Johnson will be over. After returning to Poland, I intend to be

involved in church work by doing what Iwas trained for. Computers are becoming avery important part of our lives at thepresent time. I pray that my learned skillswill be used to serve others.

My present education would not havebeen possible without people who decidedto give some part of their personal funds toothers who needed it. I would like toexpress my great appreciation for theassistance I received from GlobalMissionary Ministries. That has been awonderful privilege and such an incrediblehelp to me. I just hope that one day I will beable to help other people in the way I washelped.

I trust that in this new year you will haveopportunities to experience God's power inyour life.

    Luke Bajenski

Three and a half years have gone bysince I arrived at Pacific Christian Collegeto begin my studies in Church Ministry and

Preaching. I have received my undergraduate diploma, so I thought it would be anappropriate time for some reflection. Whatis the greatest and most difficult lesson Ihave learned in the past three years? Ilearned to trust solely in God and His willfor my life, instead of my own abilities, resources or even friends.

Speaking about the future, this year willbe very eventful in my life. I have just begunmy graduate studies at the School of WorldMission in Pasadena, California, where Ihope to complete my academic preparationfor ministry in Poland. It is an amazinghonor to be able to study and interact withmissionaries and pastors from over 60countries represented there. 1 hope thatlearning from them will help me find newways of enhancing our ministry in Poland.

Another exciting event in my life willtake place this summer. July 8 I plan tomarry Marisa Grussing. We met at PacificChristian College three years ago, and wehave been engaged since last August.Marisa has also caught the vision of ourministry in Poland and she dreams aboutcreating a Christian Preschool there, whichwould help us reach out to Polish children

  • and their families. Both of us are still studying and two months ago Marisa and I beganpart-time ministries at Diamond CanyonChristian Church. Marisa serves as aChildren's Ministry Director and I serve as aCollege and Career minister. We are veryexcited about going back to Poland and weplan to do so as soon as we complete ourstudies.

We pray that God would keep us setapart for His purposes, that He would teachand test us, making us a good and faithful"ministry team" through which we mightaccomplish great things for God's Kingdomin Poland.

    A Note from Our

    Coworker, Valya,Lutsk, Ukraine

"From November 22 to 28 we conductedan evangelistic outreach in the city ofLuboml. About 160 adults and childrenattended. One day at 6 p.m. we noticed onlya few children present. There was a snowstorm outside and the bus could not getthrough with the children. But after about 20minutes, around 30 children (ages 6-14yrs.) burst in, all flush and covered in snowfrom head to foot; they were wet fromsweating after running morethan 4 kilometers. Tears rolled mdown our cheeks as we lookedon these children who looked

like snowmen to us. They knew ^ Sthat we, the leaders, would not ^
