1.Welcome Message from Team BB 2017! Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
Dear Parents,
First and foremost, we would like to thank you for registering your children
for Bahadur Bachey 2017. With Guru Ji’s grace, Bahadur Bachey is in its 12th
year and we are excited to have this camp with your children.
Bahadur Bachey this year revolves around the theme of Japji Sahib and the
various learning points in it. The focus will be on gaining a better
understanding of and greater appreciation for the Mool Mantar, the will of
God (Hukam), gratitude and the oneness/remembrance of God. The
curriculum will be delivered through an array of methods such as classroom
lessons, role plays, exciting games and discussions. Through the camp, we
will help your children translate these teachings into everyday behaviours
and mind-sets.
Along with inspiring Darbar sessions and engaging curriculum, we have also
lined up an array of exciting, fun-filled activities for your children. Details of
the camp programme can be found in the later part of this Welcome Pack. To
ensure that your child is prepared for the camp, you will also find enclosed
a packing list.
At any point of time, should you need to speak to a member of the Bahadur
Bachey Team, the contact details of the designated members have also been
provided to this Welcome Pack. Do not hesitate to contact us at any point of
time during the camp.
Most importantly, we would like to celebrate this special time with you as
well. We would like to humbly invite you to be part of Bahadur Bachey 2017.
Join us as we work together with the Bahadur Bachey team to make the camp
a fruitful and unforgettable experience for the children.
In Guru Ji’s Sewa,
Team Bahadur Bachey

This can be in the form of a handkerchief, a piece of cloth (with no derogatory symbols or design on it) or a headscarf. Your child should not wear beanies, caps, other forms of headcover. Etiquette in Darbar Sahib (Prayer Hall) The Darbar Sahib, located on the second floor of the temple, is where Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the eternal Guru of the Sikhs, is. As a form of respect to Guru Ji, your child’s head is expected to be covered and he/she should be dressed appropriately when in the Darbar hall. We will also expect your child to maintain a proper decorum in the prayer hall. Your child will not be allowed to run around the prayer hall or make loud noises as this will disturb other members of the congregation. Participants will be required to attend morning (Japji Sahib) and evening (Rehras Sahib) prayers. During the prayer sessions, verses from the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji will be read and the verses will be displayed on the screens so that you too can understand and join in. All members of the congregation are expected to be seated cross-legged in the Darbar Sahib. Please refrain from pointing your feet or turning your back to Guru Ji. After the prayers, members of the congregation will be given Kara Parshad. Made of flour, sugar and ghee, Kara Parshad in received with one cupping both hands together. Langar Langar, or the free kitchen is a feature of every Gurdwara. You will find vegetarian food being served in the temple so that people from all walks of life, race, religion and dietary restrictions may sit together and eat. During the camp, vegetarian food will be provided at the temple for all participants and members of the congregation. We expect your child to take only how much he/she can eat as wastage of any langar is discouraged.

10. Parents Workshop – 17 June, 5-7.30pm, Level 4 CST This year, we will be organising a workshop just for you! The workshop will focus on equipping you with tips and tricks on how to better understand the needs of your child and how to support them in their every endeavour. To facilitate the workshop, we have invited Ms Laakhwinder Kaur, a professional counsellor, executive coach, mediator and facilitator. Emotional Intelligence and the Science of Behaviour Emotional Intelligence allows an individual to recognise, and regulate emotions, develop self – control, set goals, develop empathy, resolve conflict and develop skills needed for a greater fulfilled life. Through the talk you will understand, “why we do what we do.” By improving your emotional awareness, it will increase your own effectiveness, allowing you to support and develop this competency in your children. With more in depth understanding of Emotional Intelligence you will gain new tools to apply immediately to fuel positive changes - in your life and at home – starting with yourself! The workshop will also explore the how you can create positive habits in your child through positive reinforcement. Too much or too little praise can be problematic but getting it just right will work wonders for you and your child. Become familiar with some techniques to support your child more effectively and you will find yourself less tempted to use punishment, and more importantly, you will be much more effective in your relationships. Sharing success with each other We also have the honour and privilege to be joined by some amazing athletes/artists and their parents who will share with you some of the lessons they learned while supporting each other as they pursued success in their passions. Representing both sports and arts, we will be joined by: Ms Balpreet Kaur and her mother, Ms Dhanjeet Kaur Balpreet has had an illustrious career in track and field, setting national records and even represented Singapore at the World Championships in 2009 for the 100m sprint! Mr Jaspal Singh, Mr Ishwarpal Singh and their mother, Ms Sukhdevi Kaur The Grewal brothers have been ruling the hockey scene since young, won Silver in Hockey at the 2015 SEA Games and are now training hard for SEA Games 2017! Mr Gavinpal Singh and his parents, Mr Kuldip Singh and Ms Saranpal Kaur. Gavin has only been swimming since he was 4 years old and swimming competitively 3 years ago. In April 2017 Gavin wrote a swimming competition record at the 58th School Nationals for the 50M Fly/50Free Event! Ms Kalvinder Kaur Kalvinder has mastered multiple musical instruments and even composed several pieces for her Raffles Girls School’s Indian Orchestra’s graduating performance in her final year!
