Text 1

Zaman sekarang, zaman teknologi informasi dan komunikasi Tuk. Semuanya berada di hujung jari sahaja. Apa yang penting, ada komputer dan jaringan internet, paling tidak pun ada telefon bimbit yang membolehkan kita melayari internet. Kalau sudah ada kedua-duanya, ibarat macam dunia kini kita punyalah … Itu adalah Tuk dengar-dengar bunyi … net … net … tu. Tapi tidaklah Tuk berapa hendak faham maksudnya. Maklumlah Tuk ni bukan sekolah tinggi seperti kamu, Timah. Setakat darjah 5 sahaja. Apa yang Tuk tahu, menanam dan menjual sayur dan buah sahajalah. Tuk ni sudah tua, Timah … tak perlulah belajar semua tu. Selepas ini Tuk pasti belajar juga. Kacang-kacang putih. Dengam ilmu perkebunan Tuk dan bakat komputer saya, kita boleh mendapat rezeki lebih banyak dari hasil kebun Tuk. Timah hendak buat blog khas untuk kita memasarkan hasilnya. Kemudian Timah akan buat pelbagai promosi melalui laman sembang. Apa bendalah yang kamu sebutkan tu Timah. Sepatah haram Tuk tidak tahu. Tidak mengapa. Nanti Timah ajar Tuk. Tidak susah Tuk, senang sahaja. Hmm … yalah. Tuk … Zaman Tuk dahulu lain. Kalau hendak berniaga sayur dan buah perlu ada gerai, kedai, restoran. Paling tidak pun menjaja dari rumah ke rumah. Tapi sekarang, zaman dah berubah Tuk. Semuanya kerana teknologi informasi dan komunikasi. Tuk pernah dengar perniagaan dalam talian? Adalah juga Tuk mendengarnya, tapi tak berapa hendak faham juga. Ha … itulah yang hendak Timah buat sekarang Tuk. Kita buat perniagaan dalam talian. Kita jual produk mentah. Buat masa ini kita pasarkan dulu buah ubi dan keledek saja. Tebang semua pokok buah-buahan itu untuk kebun baru. Amboi, Timah nak koyak baju mahu ukur badan. Kalau mahu kemajuan … kita harus ambil risiko!

Ada ke … yang hendak membeli begitu banyak ubi dan keledek Timah …? Orang kampung kita ini, kalau hendak makan sendiri, tu … gali dalam halaman rumah saja. Tak perlu beli! Haa … zaman sudah berubah. Keramaian orang kota tidak boleh memelihara kebun bahan makanan. Kenapa Timah hendak tanam ubi dan keledek banyak-banyak? Macam ini pelanggan kita ialah seluruh dunia!

Text 2

Memang menjadi sesuatu yang menarik dan teruja apabila kita melihat mesej permintaan untuk menjadi rakan di bahagian atas halaman sosial.

Biasanya saya menerima permintaan menjadi rakan tanpa berfikir, terutama jika individu terlibat adalah rakan atau nama yang dikenali.

Bagi saya, mempunyai lebih ramai rakan atau kawan bermakna saya popular.

Sama dengan ramai orang muda, saya lebih suka berkomunikasi di Internet daripada bertatap muka. Kita boleh bercakap dengan kawan dalam talian pada bila-bila masa sahaja. Bila kita ada sesuatu untuk dikatakan, sahabat dalam talian sentiasa ada.

Kita tidak perlu bersolek atau berpakaian cantik, baju tidur cukuplah.

Kalau bertatap muka, kita tidak boleh berfikir panjang lebar sebelum membalas pertanyaan.

Internet memberi kita semacam kepercayaan diri yang tidak kita miliki bila kita bertatap muka.

Saya juga menggunakan Internet untuk menjalin persahabatan baru. Dalam talian kita boleh merenget, menagih simpati dengan orang yang tidak kenal keluarga, sahabat handai dan kenalan rapat kita.

Saya boleh berkenalan dengan orang dari seluruh dunia yang tidak boleh saya temui dengan cara lain.

Untuk kawan baru ini kita boleh melukiskan persona yang lebih menarik daripada kenyataan.

Yang penting sekali persahabatan siber boleh diputuskan dengan satu click tetikus!

Saya selalu pikirkan bahayanya mencari teman di Internet.

Amanah adalah penting dalam hubungan. Agar sukar untuk mempercayai teman yang kita kenal dalam talian. Kita tidak boleh pasti niat di sebalik persona manusia dalam talian.

Kadang-kadang kita bertemu dengan orang yang meragukan kalau berbual di Internet dengan orang yang tidak dikenali.

Sering terjadi bahawa selepas beberapa menit sudah ada yang menulis komentar kasar atau mengajukan pertanyaan yang tak sesuai.

Yang paling dikhuatiri, mungkin juga teman-teman siber kita penjenayah siber.

Oleh itu saya sangat berhati-hati memberi butir-butir peribadi, kerana penjenayah siber berpotensi meniru profil kita sendiri atau seseorang yang kita kenal untuk tujuan menipu.

Jika kita mencatatkan pelbagai maklumat dalam akaun peribadi halaman sosial dan pada masa sama kita senang-senang menerima permintaan orang lain untuk menjadi teman, maklumat serta gambar yang sebelum ini tidak boleh dilihat oleh umum akan menjadi paparan bagi teman baharu ini.

Peluang menerima permintaan dari ‘penipu akaun’ adalah amat tinggi.

Sebaik sahaja penjenayah siber memperoleh maklumat dan gambar yang dikehendaki, dengan mudah mereka mencuri maklumat dan menggunakannya untuk kerja-kerja jenayah.

Maka timbul pertanyaan: Apakah teman siber benar-benar teman kita?

Read the text and then answer in MALAY the questions that follow. The total length of your response should be approximately 400 words.

Tinggal satu lagi jenis kuih yang belum dapat disediakan. Arafah ingat-ingat lupa resepi kuih tradisi itu. Jadi, dia telah meminta bantuan sahabatnya, Alif yang bertugas di luar negara. Dia kepingin benar untuk mempelajari resepi kuih goyang daripada sahabatnya itu.

Keluarga Alif pula sudah berhijrah ke Australia. Sehingga sekarang, Arafah langsung tidak pernah ‘khatam’ mempelajari resepi kuih tersebut. Tetapi tak mengapa, malam nanti Alif akan muncul di hadapannya siap siaga dengan perkakas dan bahan-bahan untuk membuat kuih. Malam nanti Arafah akan menonton kelas masakan khas Alif dari Australia dengan bantuan persidangan video.

Arafah tersenyum sendiri. Lagi sebulan Ramadhan bakal menjelang. Inilah masanya untuk mengedarkan sampel kuih raya. Yang penting ialah menyebarkan berita bahawa Arafah, yang buat sambal gesek dan katering kecil-kecilan itu, kini akan mempunyai satu lagi jenama, Arafah’s Cupcakes. Arafah mulai merangka-rangka strategi pemasaran kuih rayanya. Pagi itu, Arafah memulakan hari dengan semangat dan harapan yang baru.

Ketika Amin dalam kandungan, Arafah menyara hidup dengan makan gaji. Semenjak Amin hadir dalam hidupnya, Arafah membuat keputusan untuk memulakan perniagaan kecil-kecilan. Justeru, biar tahu bakal berdepan dengan seribu kepayahan, Arafah nekad berniaga dan bekerja sendiri.

‘Dalam perniagaan, jika rajin berusaha dan bijak menggunakan peluang yang ada pasti ketemu jalan untuk maju ke hadapan’, kerap kali kata-kata arwah suaminya itu terngiang-ngiang pada pendengarannya.

Tinggallah Arafah menjalani hidup sendirian sehingga tempoh melahirkan tiba. Kelahiran Amin membawa seribu pengertian dalam hidupnya. Arafah bukan lagi sendiri. Dia ada Amin. Dia seorang ibu kini. Biarpun dia perlu bekerja keras demi Amin, dia sanggup. Dia sudah berhenti mengharap dan menanti sesuatu yang tidak pasti.

Kala ini dia hanya mahu mengubah nasib diri. Dia juga mahu berjaya seperti orang lain. Biarpun tidak mempunyai kekuatan modal yang besar, Arafah gigih bermula kecil-kecilan.

Sebaik selesai tempoh berpantang dahulu, dia mulai berniaga nasi lemak pada waktu pagi di tepi jalan. Dia tidak mahu tepuk dada tanya selera. Modalnya hanya sebanyak seratus ringgit, meja lama dan payung besar yang dibuang di tepi jalan. Tiga minggu selepas berniaga, pelanggan semakin bertambah. Tiada wang menjadikan dia kena sindiran penjaja lain. Tetapi dia tidak peduli, dia nekad akan berjaya. Dia selalu ingat bahawa dia akan buktikan dia juga boleh berjaya walaupun sendirian.

Semangatnya tidak pernah padam. Dia gigih memasarkan nasi lemaknya dari gerai ke gerai. Hajatnya cuma mahu menembusi pasaran.Yang penting produknya dikenali dahulu. Dari hanya sebuah gerai mamak yang mengambil nasi lemaknya, akhirnya reputasi Arafah berkembang di luar sangkaannya.

Tak ramai rakyat Malaysia amalkan kitar semula

Setiap orang Malaysia, secara purata, membuang 0.8 kilogram sampah setiap hari. Negara kita menghasilkan sekitar 15,000 tan sampah setiap hari yang cukup untuk memenuhi Menara Berkembar Petronas dalam jangka masa sembilan setengah hari sahaja.

Semua maklum bahawa sisa buangan daripada rumah kita dihantar ke tapak perlupusan sisa. Sebuah kajian telah meramalkan bahwa pada tahun 2020 kelak, sisa buangan di Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor saja akan melebihi tiga juta tan. Pusat perlupusan sampah di sana hanya dapat menampung separuh daripada jumlah jangkaan sisa buangan tersebut.

Tetapi ada pilihan lain, iaitu kitar semula. Ini bukan rahsia lagi bahawa tak ramai orang Malaysia amalkan kitar semula. Menurut Menteri Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan, pada tahun 2016 hanya 15% daripada sisa buangan di Malaysia yang dikitar semula. Walau bagaimanapun, yang paling penting adalah sikap rakyat. Menurut sebuah kajian baru-baru ini, peratusan rakyat Malaysia yang sedar akan kepentingan kitar semula adalah 99%. Manakala rakyat yang menyatakan hasrat untuk mengamalkan kitar semula adalah 69%. Nampak banyak, bukan — 69%? Namun, ini cuma peratusan hasrat. Bukan perlaksanaan lagi. Peratusan perlaksanaan tiada dinyatakan dalam kajian tersebut, tetapi, tengok-tengok saja — nampaknya tidak begitu tinggi.

Benar, masih ada banyak halangan untuk penduduk mengamalkan perkara ini terutamanya di tempat-tempat yang kekurangan kemudahan seperti depot mengumpul bahan dekat daerah perumahan dan tong sampah berbeza seperti diamalkan di Australia. Namun, kita harus bermula sedikit-sedikit, mengikut kemampuan kita.

Kita tidak semestinya hantar bahan-bahan kepada tapak perlupusan sisa atau pusat kitar semula. Banyak lagi yang boleh dibuat, seperti menjual kepada organisasi yang memerlukan sisa tersebut sebagai bahan mentah atau menggunakan sisa tersebut untuk perkara bermanfaat yang lain seperti kraftangan, dan sebagainya.

Amalan kitar semula sedang bertambah pada tahap akar umbi. Terdapat kajian yang telah dijalankan dengan fokus kepada isi rumah yang menunjukkan ada beberapa kumpulan jiran yang aktif mengamalkan kitar semula. Antara pemangkinnya, menurut kajian tersebut, adalah penyediaan kemudahan kitar semula yang ada di daerah tersebut.

Section 3 (Questions 5 to 8) (20 marks)

When judging performance in this section, the examiner(s) will take into account the extent to which the student demonstrates: • relevance and depth of treatment appropriate to the context, purpose, and audience • understanding and appreciation of the aesthetic work(s) • control and range of appropriate language structures and vocabulary • the capacity to structure and sequence information, opinions, and ideas logically and

coherently.

Answer ONE question from this section in approximately 500 words in MALAY. You must refer to AT LEAST TWO of the texts studied from the required reading list in your response.

5. You read the following statement in a newspaper: ‘The Deputy Prime Minister’s recent challenge for Malaysian writers to produce works worthy of a Nobel Prize has little chance of success, given the tendency of Malaysian novelists to avoid important social issues’. Write an article for the newspaper in which you evaluate this comment, with reference to two modern Malaysian texts that you have read.

6. A national youth forum has organised an essay-writing competition, which you decide to enter. With reference to two modern Malaysian texts, write an essay in which you evaluate the statement: ‘Literature has an important role in raising awareness about the impact of development on Malaysia’.
