Within the framework of UNCLOS and the 2050 AIM Strategy, the aim of the Conference is to contribute to the development of the African Integrated Maritime Human Resources Development (HRD) Strategy and the various continental policies which need to complement the AIM Strategy.The Conference will do so by:● contributing to the finalisation of continent-wide maritime sector capacity and ocean governance reviews;● mapping processes to identify and draft the required policies as well as to implement the 2050 AIM Strategy in the field of training, education, research and innovation;● developing structures to coordinate and drive the drafting of policies as well as the capacity development agenda in the field of training, education, research and innovation; and● being organised in such a way that the work done with regard to the implementation of the 2050 AIM Strategy in the field of training, education, research and innovation is informed by the work done with regard to ocean governance and vice versa.
Aims of the Conference
Attendance will be by invitation (about 300-350 delegates) and representatives of institutions and other stakeholders that are involved in maritime training, education, research and innovation on the continent as well as ocean governance experts and representatives of the African regional economic communities, specialised international institutions, AU Member States, the African maritime industry and civil society.
