Dear Dayton Christian Family, It has been my privilege as well as that of our leadership team to hear from so many of you regarding the opening of school on Aug. 19. These heartfelt connections have provided a perspective that couldn’t have been formed by simply reading answers from an electronic survey. We have been extremely encouraged that while there may be differing views on how certain policies are carried out, we hold the most important bond in common: a resolve to return our children to Christ-centered education. The most recent version of our Return to Community Plan was expanded to ensure this goal is achieved. This version builds upon the framework released on July 2, and considers new information released by health and state officials. More importantly, it is crafted with our entire community in mind and the standards to which we will be held as we become one of the only local schools to open its physical doors this fall. Both of these carry a heavy responsibility, but one that we are privileged to assume in order to get our community BACK WHERE WE BELONG. Christ is providing a unique opportunity for us. Let’s show the world that we are different by the way we walk forward – understanding that views and passions are often crafted by personal experiences – but focused on the Savior who unites us as one. Dear Dayton Christian Family,

It has been my privilege as well as that of our leadership team to hear from so many of you regarding the opening of school on Aug.

This version builds upon the framework released on July 2, and considers new information released by health and state offi cials.

Together, we can be the salt and light Christ intended.

Together, we are – DC!

A smooth transition into and out of the school building each day is critical to maintaining the health and safety of our students. We are confident we can achieve this goal by designating four main entry points and outlining specific walking patterns for every grade.

To begin the school year, all students should be dropped off outside the school building, and enter through the following entry points. Parents of students Grades 1-12 should remain in their car to minimize the number of individuals entering the building. Faculty and staff will be strategically positioned to help guide students to their classrooms.

PRESCHOOLParents should drive past the tennis courts to a designated drop-off area on the side of the building. Teachers will greet students at the car and take them into the preschool hallway.

KINDERGARTEN – GRADE 3Students enter Building C (main lobby) where they will be directed by staff and faculty to their classroom on the first floor. Parents of kindergarten students are allowed to walk their child into class during the first partial week only, but are REQUIRED to wear a face covering, and follow our visitor check-in guidelines at the front desk.

GRADES 4 – 8Students enter Building B (athletic offices) where they will be directed by staff and faculty to walk directly to the stairwell that leads to their second-floor learning spaces.

GRADES 9 – 12Students enter the Warrior Center entrance (connector between Buildings C and D). They will walk directly up the stairwell to their third-floor learning spaces.

The care and sanitation of our facility and grounds is of utmost importance as we bring our students back on campus. DC Leadership took a significant step forward this summer by creating a full-time custodial team that is now employed by the school and shares in its goal of excellence. These employees will be the main team to carry out the detailed, deep cleaning procedures that have been established to make our facility COVID-compliant.

SANITIZERS, CLEANING SOLUTIONS, AND PAINT• Sanitizing dispensers increased and strategically located throughout the school• Disinfecting bottles located in each classroom• All cleaning solutions EPA-approved for COVID-19 use• Newly painted areas contain microbial elements to combat virus

LARGE GATHERING AREASLobbies, hallways, auditorium, cafeteria, music rooms, fitness rooms, conference rooms, library, gym, locker rooms, restrooms, and playgrounds will be serviced with new cleaning equipment:• New vacuum cleaners with Hepa filters• New Kaivac System – capable of killing virus within 2-3 minutes of contact• T360 Electro Static Cleaner – capable of cleaning surfaces in a 360-degree radius and killing virus within 2 minutes of contact

ROUTINE CLEANING • Cleaning of all door glass and touch points throughout the day• All restroom doors at touch points will be wiped down at daily intervals• Handrails in stairwells will be wiped down between classes• Cafeteria tables/chairs cleaned nightly with T-360 Electro Static Cleaner

HVAC PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE• All HVA diffusers routinely changed (based on timed alarm)• Compressors have been changed to new to optimize performance• Air quality checks will take place on a quarterly basis

Training will be provided to all staff regarding reporting procedures for any individual suspected of exhibiting signs of COVID-19. This plan includes details on how to report the individual to the school clinic where the Director of Health Services will collaborate with the local health department.

The Director of Health Services will take steps to ensure the school clinic is prepared to handle potential COVID-19-infected individuals while keeping other members of the community safe:

• Creation of a designated isolation room in the clinic for those suspected of the virus until the timely pick-up by parents• Monitoring infectious diseases• Working with families whose child may have become infected with the disease• Implementing necessary precautions in light of a potential outbreak

Learning for students who have to stay home due to an illness or a 14-day quarantine will look no different than that which has historically been delivered in the past when a student has had a long-term illness such as mono or the flu.

Parents are encouraged to work with their student’s teacher(s) and utilize DC Connect.

The COVID-19 crisis has taken a toll on all of us, and our children are no exception. Returning to school may present unique challenges for some students and we are prepared to help them navigate this transition with compassion, direction, and information.

Dayton Christian is blessed to be one of the only Christian schools in the state to offer its own full-time, on-campus counseling department. Our counselors are prepared to meet students where they are upon return and have specific plans in place to help:

GRADES K-6Once teachers have established their new classroom routines, classes will receive regular whole-class lessons that will help them understand and respond to their emotions, increase positive coping skills, and strengthen social skills. If we see any children needing more help, they may receive individual counseling or have the opportunity to participate in a small counseling group.

GRADES 7-12Junior High and High School is moving to a block schedule, and with the new schedule comes a weekly advisory period. This advisory period, which is being designed collaboratively with school leadership, will allow students to engage in a non-academic setting with other students and a faculty member. The advisory period will be a time for students to connect, and reflect on spiritual, social, academic, and interpersonal topics in a safe and supportive environment.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO WAIT!If you are concerned about your student or think he/she would benefit from individual counseling, please contact Erin Smith at [email protected]. We are eager to work with you to help your child succeed this year.

LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT EXPECTATIONSWe have been assured that our four transporting districts – including Center-ville, Miamisburg, Franklin and West Carrollton – are taking steps to ensure the cleanliness of their buses. Parents who are utilizing their local district’s transportation service are encouraged to read what information is provided by that district.
