About the Chamber
The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of our Chamber membership through the economic, civic, cultural and social interests of our community.
The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce began in 1959 when a group of local professionals formed a retail merchants association. In 1961, the Chamber was incorporated, and today our membership represents over 350 businesses and non-profits. Members engage in events, develop professional relationships, market their businesses, and expand their networks through the Chamber as well as support community enrichment initiatives.
We hope you enjoy the “Simsbury Chamber of Commerce Art Trail” and the wonderful local businesses who have made this event possible. The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce is an organization that puts Simsbury and business advocacy at the forefront of all we do, and we invite you to join us at another event in the future.
Morgan Hilyard, Executive Director

Celebrating the Familiar
Through his sculptural commentary on day-to-day life, Seward Johnson engages us with the hyper- realistic bronzes of this Celebrating the Familiar series, which act as a mirror for us all. The works echo our myriad tasks and activities, catching our eye and calling attention to small pleasures and encounters. Thirty-six sculptures will be placed throughout scenic Simsbury, Connecticut from June 5 to September 29, 2020.
About the Artist
Following an early career as a painter, Seward Johnson turned his talents to the medium of sculpture. Since then, more than 450 of Johnson’s life-size cast bronze figures have been featured in private collections and museums in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, as well as prominent places in the public realm such as Times Square and Rockefeller Center in New York City, Pacific Place of Hong Kong, Les Halles inParis, and Via Condotti in Rome. Seward Johnson has become widely known for his sculptures depicting people engaged in every day activities. Johnson’s desire to highlight the mundane in his Celebrating the Familiar sculpture series has brought a unique voice to the world of art in public spaces.
Noting the passing of the artist this spring, we are pleased to present the exhibition in Simsbury which honors his legacy.
