DEAN’S MESSAGE

The first 2 years of the programme, the pre-clinical phase is conducted in our dedicated medical campus at Bandar Seri Alam in Pasir Gudang, Johor. The clinical phase followed the pre-clinical phase over the next 3 years. Currently the clinical phase is conducted in Muar during which students will do their clinical training in Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah (HPSF), Muar. HPSF is a specialist hospital which provides services in all major clinical disciplines. In addition to HPSF, AMU has also been given approval by the Ministry of Health to utilise Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru, Hospital Kulai and Hospital Kota Tinggi to train its medical students.

In our effort to produce competent medical doctors, we have adopted a holistic approach in the training of our future doctors. In addition to conventional teaching approaches such as lectures, tutorials, practical, seminars, and bed-side teaching, the faculty utilises various teaching-learning approaches such as self-directed learning, task-based learning, field visits, computer-aided learning, and independent learning. This is to ensure the MBBS graduates of AMU fulfil the attributes of future doctors who are not only competent but possess other attributes such as professionalism, lifelong learning skills, leadership qualities, able to work in a team, and able to think critically. Good values are instilled in the medical graduates to ensure that they have the proper ethics and the right attitude in their work environment and when dealing with co-workers and the public at large.

We have invested heavily in our team of academic professionals as well as in equipping our Pasir Gudang and Muar campuses with the state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities. Being cognizant of the critical importance in having good teachers and role models to mould the minds and hone the competencies of our students, we have built a strong, dedicated and experienced team of faculty members to optimize students’ engagement and learning.

As the Dean of Faculty of Medicine, I am confident that the medical graduates of AMU will excel and flourish in the field of medicine serving not only the people of Malaysia but will have the capacity to serve globally.

From our humble inception in 2004, Asia Metropolitan University has grown into a full-fledged university offering a wide range of programmes which bears testimony to our impressive track record in the private, higher education landscape in Malaysia.

In line with the recent developments in the industry and within our institution, AMU is focused in producing trained, qualified, competent graduates for domestic and international markets in health sciences, business and management. In the years to come, AMU aims to achieve the “top-of-the-mind choice” globally. Above all, we envision our students to not only come from a diverse range of countries, but also as significant contributors to the international human capital needs.

Currently, AMU provides an educational pathway from foundation studies and diploma programmes for post-secondary school certificate holders as well as bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree programmes. We have revolutionised our approach to ensure a high quality delivery of our academic programmes. Many factors have precipitated our transformation as a private tertiary education institution. A critical dimension of the repositioning is our incessant drive for academic delivery and quality. Besides striving for continuous improvement, we have repositioned ourselves in the changing landscape of the higher education industry to better address the intensified competition in the higher education industry.
