3 PURPOSE
These Program Regulations set out the approved requirements for the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary)(Honours).
4 OVERVIEW
4.1 Campus Availability The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) have been approved for delivery on the Fremantle Campus.
4.2 Student Availability The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) are available for enrolment to domestic Students and international Students with a student visa.
4.3 Australian Qualifications Framework The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) is accredited by the University as a Level 7 AQF qualification. The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) is accredited by the University as a Level 8 AQF qualification
4.4 Duration The Volume of Learning for the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) is four (4) years of equivalent full-time study. The Volume of Learning for the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary)(Honours) is 4.4 years of equivalent full-time study. An option to complete this Program Part-time is available.
4.5 Maximum Duration The maximum period of time within which a student is permitted to complete the Bachelor of Health
and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) Award is detailed in the University’s General Regulations.
4.6 Study Mode The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) are offered in Internal Study mode.
4.7 Professional Accreditation
The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) are accredited under the national body the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) via the agency of the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
5 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
5.1 University Admission Requirements To be eligible for admission to The University of Notre Dame Australia, all applicants must meet the University’s minimum requirements for admission. The requirements for admission are detailed in the University’s Policy: Admissions.

5.2 Specific Program Requirements for Admission There are no additional entry requirements for this Award.
6 PRACTICUM OR INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS
6.1 Students are required to complete Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours)] that includes a minimum 27 (twenty seven) weeks of practicum.
7 PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
7.1 Program Description
Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education Secondary is a nationally accredited degree. This four-year specialist education degree provides the opportunity for those with a passion for working with young people and desire to become a secondary school teacher. The degree includes compulsory courses in health, exercise sports sciences, and outdoor education. A suite of electives also provides the preservice teacher with a minor teaching area qualifying them to teach into another learning area. A central feature of this degree is the extensive range of professional practice undertaken in each year of study. This valuable and diverse experience produces teacher-ready graduates who can connect theory to practice. Graduates of this degree have the flexibility to seek employment in the various education systems and sectors.
Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours)
The embedded Honours program is a unique opportunity for students from the Bachelor Health and Physical Education Secondary degree to undertake research and build an ethos of evidence-based enquiry into health and physical education practice. Successful candidates are required to complete two additional research units and a substantial thesis as part of the Bachelor Health and Physical Education Secondary degree.
7.2 Program Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) graduates will be able to: 1. Interpret research, contemporary issues and current practice within the field of Health and
Physical Education to maintain professional knowledge and independent lifelong learning. 2. Plan, implement and evaluate effective teaching and learning experiences that cater for the full
range of student abilities developed from an evidence based curriculum content, curriculum documents, pedagogy and applied to a primary school setting.
3. Demonstrate the essential skills such as planning, organisation, presentation, team work and problem-solving required for professional practice.
4. Exemplify professional knowledge, attributes and skills, gained through work integrated learning during practicum experiences, to maintain a supportive and safe environment for students in a primary setting.
5. Apply interpersonal skills that are ethical and professional to engage in partnerships with colleagues, external professionals, families and communities.
6. Exemplify continued learning, self-reflection and critical thinking throughout professional life. 7. Articulate objective and universal truth, appreciate the intrinsic dignity of the human person,
and exhibit good intellectual, moral and theological habits. Critically appraise international research, contemporary perspectives and current practice
within the field of Health and Physical Education to maintain professional knowledge and independent lifelong learning.

7.3 Required Courses To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) students must complete a minimum of 800 Units of Credit chosen from the courses listed in Appendix A comprising:
75 Units of Credit from three (3) Core Curriculum Courses
725 Units of Credit from thirty eight (38) compulsory Courses *Variation in total of units of credit may occur depending on course selection. To be eligible for the award of Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary)(Honours) students must complete a minimum of 865 Units of Credit chosen from the courses listed in Appendix B comprising:
75 Units of Credit from three (3) Core Curriculum Courses
790 Units of Credit from forty one (41) compulsory Courses
*Variation in total of units of credit may occur depending on course selection.
7.4 Elective Courses Students enroled in the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) are required to
complete four (4) approved courses and a (relevant or appropriate or related) Specialisation Teaching Methods course. Students in the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) Award must complete a Teaching Specialisation. The structure of these Teaching Specialisations is dependent on course offerings and Program Coordinator advice.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary)(Honours) are
required to complete four (4) approved courses and a (relevant or appropriate or related) Specialisation Teaching Methods course. Students in the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) Award must complete a Teaching Specialisation. The structure of these Teaching Specialisations is dependent on course offerings and Program Coordinator advice.
7.5 Honours
7.5.1 Structure of Honours
The Honours program is embedded into the 3rd and 4th year Program structure of the Award. The Honours program requires additional Units of Credit and the Teaching Internship: EDUC4891 Professional Experience 4 Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) is reduced by one week. Honours students must complete four additional Courses: HLTH4900 Reading and Conference HLTH4990 Advanced Research Methods, Statistics and Ethics in Health Sciences HLTH4009 Supervised Honours – Health Sciences HLTH4010 Supervised Honours – Health Sciences

7.5.2 Examination of a Research Component
(a) The Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) (Honours) research thesis
will be examined by one internal and one external marker.
(b) The School of Health Sciences arranges the examination of the Honours thesis using its
own established guidelines and rubrics that are made available to students and
examiners, and which are consistent with the Policy: The Award of a Degree with
Honours and the General Regulations of the University of Notre Dame Australia.
7.5.3 Ranking of Honours Awards
The ranking on all Honours programs will be awarded in accordance with the University’s General Regulations.
7.5.4 Awarding Honours
Honours within the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (Secondary) Award is awarded as graded Honours.
7.6 Course substitutions
Course substitutions, where permitted, must be approved by the Dean. 7.7 Majors

Theatre Studies Course selection for Teaching Specialisations should be made in consultation with School staff.
7.10 Special Award Requirements Students enrolled in these Awards are required to:
(a) Complete a Working with Children Check and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (criminal history screening) prior to the commencement of EDUC1894 Professional

Experience 1 Bachelor of Health and Physical Education as specified by the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004. Failure to provide the required documentation by the time prescribed by the School of Health Sciences may result in cancellation of enrolment in accordance with the General Regulations.
(b) Have a current Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion and completed an approved Outdoor Education placement on application to graduate.
(c) Meet any inherent requirements for the study of the Award with or without adjustments that may be in place or are developed by the University.
(d) All students will be required to sit and pass the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students before graduation
(e) Students must successfully achieve the standard of both the literacy and numeracy components of the LANTITE test before enrolling in the final teaching internship.
(f) All students must successfully complete the Graduate Teacher Performance Assessment (GTPA) after completing the final teaching internship in order to graduate from this program.
