BabyConverse-English 1 crochet pattern

A remark before you start: this is my first pattern. I hope it is understandable. Materials: ● Yarn leftovers in two colors. I think it looks best with white and a color. One color is used for the sole, sides of sole and toe cap. (I used white.) The other is used for the tongue and the sides of the bootie. (I used blue.) Very short length of black for the star, or use the same as the bootie. ● Double pointed or circular needle in size for the yarn. To get the right density, use a needle that is smaller than recommended for the size of the yarn. I used a 3 mm. ● A crochet hook in the same size for the star circle. Abbreviations: ● Sl 1: slip 1 stitch as if to purl ● K: knit ● P: purl ● M1: make one. Lift the strand between two stitches on the previous row and knit into the back leg. ● Pick up: slide the needle tip into the next edge stitch. The pattern uses several types of pick up instructions. Pick up under both legs - lift both sides of the stitch on the edge and work into both. Pick up under inside leg - lift only the leg that is on the inside of the edge. Purl or knit it as directed. ● Pick up and knit: pick up a stitch with the new yarn through the edge. ● Hdc: half double crochet (US), half treble (htr) (UK) Pattern Stitches: ● Work in seed stitch: knit the purls in the row below, purl the knits. Work the M1 stitches to fit into the pattern. This makes a pattern that alternates knits and purls both horizontally and vertically. ● Rib: knit the knits from the previous row, purl the purls. This makes a pattern that alternates knits and purls horizontally, but aligns them vertically. ● Stockinette: knit all stitches on the right side, purl all stitches on the wrong side. Repeat rows 2 and 3. (10 stitches) Repeat row 3 for 15 rows. The sole should measure about 5 cm. Next row: Sl 1, M1, work in seed stitch to last stitch, M1, knit. (12 stitches) Repeat row 3 for 17 rows. The sole should measure about 9 cm. Shape toe: Cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next two rows. Row 2: Slip 1, work 6 stitches in rib. Work back and forth on these 7 stitches, repeating rows 1 and 2, joining to the sole every other row by working the last stitch together with both legs of the next stitch on the sole until there are no more sole stitches.

At the end, graft or sew the two ends together.

  • Tongue and Toe:Mark the 9th stitch on either side of the toe. An easy way to do this is to pull a loop of contrast yarn through the stitches. It can just go from one side of the foot to the other, as in the photo.

You are now going to work the toe, attaching it to the side edge as you go. Work in the same color as the side edging. Pick up the inner leg of the 4 stitches at the center of the toe, right side facing. Row 1: Purl.Row 2: Pick up a stitch in the edge and purl it, knit to the end, pick up a stitch in the edge and purl it.Row 3: Pick up a stitch in the edge and purl it, purl to the end, pick up a stitch in the edge and purl it. Continue working rows 2 and 3 until you have 10 stitches on the needle. Total length of toe approximately 2.5 cm.
