DESCRIPTIONThe BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator is anintrinsically safe, FOUNDATION™ fieldbusinstrument compliant with ITK 6.3 that can displayone fieldbus process variable on a five digit LCDand 31 segment analogue bargraph. Theinstrument is bus powered so no additional powersupply is required.

    The Device Description files may be downloadedfrom The FieldComm or the BEKA associates websites.

    Housed in a robust IP66 glass reinforced polyester(GRP) enclosure with a toughened glass window,the BA414DF-F is surface mounting, or may bepipe mounted using one of the accessory kits.

    The instrument has been certified intrinsically safeby European Notified Body Intertek Testing andCertification Ltd (ITS) for use in explosive gas andcombustible dust atmospheres. ATEX dustcertification is an option – see Appendix 1.

    For use in the USA and Canada, the BA414DF-F isavailable with optional intrinsic safety andnonincendive FM and cFM Approval – seeAppendix 2.

    For international applications, all versions of theBA414DF-F fieldbus indicator have IECEx intrinsicsafety approval allowing installation in explosivegas atmospheres. IECEx dust certification isavailable as an option – see Appendix 3.

    The instrument’s communication protocol is shownon a label inside the terminal cover. The ‘-F’ ordercode suffix also indicates the protocol but is notshown on the instrument certification label.

    2. INTRINSIC SAFETY CERTIFICATION

    2.1 ATEX certificateThe BA414DF-F has been issued with an EC-TypeExamination Certificate ITS06ATEX25313X byNotified Body Intertek Testing and Certification Ltd(ITS) confirming compliance with harmonisedEuropean standards. The BA414DF-F fieldbusindicator has Ex ia FISCO and entity parametercertification plus Ex ic entity parameter approvalfor use in Zone 2 with higher supply voltages.

    The EC-Type Examination certificate has beenused to confirm compliance with the EuropeanATEX Directive 2014/34/EU. The BA414DF-Fcarries the Community Mark and, subject to localcodes of practice, may be installed in any of theEuropean Economic Area (EEA) membercountries. ATEX certificates are also acceptablefor installations in Switzerland.

    This manual describes ATEX installations inexplosive gas atmospheres which conform withEN 60079:14 Electrical installation design,selection and erection. When designing systemsfor installation outside the UK, the local Code ofPractice should be consulted.

    For use in the presence of combustible dust,please refer to Appendix 1.

    2.2 Ex ia Zones, gas groups and T ratingThe BA414DF-F has Group II Category 1G Ex iaIIC T4 Ga –40 ≤ Ta ≤ 70oC FISCO and entityparameter approval. When connected to asuitable certified system the BA414DF-F may beinstalled in:

    Zone 0 explosive gas air mixturecontinuously present.

    Zone 1 explosive gas air mixture likely to occur in normal operation.

    Zone 2 explosive gas air mixture notlikely to occur, and if it does willonly exist for a short time.

    Be used with gases in groups:Group A propaneGroup B ethyleneGroup C hydrogen

    In gases which may be used with equipmenthaving a temperature classification of:

    T1 450ºCT2 300ºCT3 200ºCT4 135ºC

    At an ambient temperature between –40 and +70ºC

  • 2.3 Ex ic Zones, gas groups and T ratingThe BA414DF-F also has Group II Category 3GEx ic IIC Gc T4 –40 ≤ Ta ≤ 70oC entity parameterapproval with a higher Ui input voltage than theEx ia approval. When connected to a suitablecertified system the BA414DF-F may be installedin:

    Zone 2 explosive gas air mixture notlikely to occur, and if it does willonly exist for a short time.

    Be used with gases in groups:Group A propaneGroup B ethyleneGroup C hydrogen

    In gases which may be used with equipmenthaving a temperature classification of:

    T1 450ºCT2 300ºCT3 200ºCT4 135ºC

    At an ambient temperature between –40 and+70ºC.

    Note: the guaranteed operating temperature rangeof the BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator is –20 to+70oC

    Ex ia and Ex ic entity certification plus FISCOcertifiation allows the BA414DF-F to be installed inall Zones and to be used with most commonindustrial gases.

    2.4 Fieldbus connectionThe BA414DF-F Indicator is powered andcommunicates via the fieldbus which is connectedto terminals 1 and 2. These are non-polarised,comply with the Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe Concept(FISCO) and have separate Ex ia and Ex ic entityinput parameters as shown below:

    2.5 Certification Label InformationThe certification information label is fitted in arecess on the top outer surface of the enclosure. Itshows details of the ATEX certification, astatement that the instrument is a FISCO FieldDevice, plus BEKA associates name and location.IECEx approval information is also included. Thelabel for some versions of the instrument will alsocontain non-European certification information.

    The instrument serial number and year ofmanufacture are recorded on a separate labelinside the terminal compartment.

    The label includes boxed areas which should bemarked by the installer to show which of the threecertifications is being used.

    3. SYSTEM DESIGN FOR HAZARDOUS AREAS

    3.1 FISCO SystemsThe BA414DF-F may be connected to any ATEXcertified FISCO compliant fieldbus segment,providing the segment can supply the additional13mA required to operate the instrument. Fig 1shows a typical fieldbus segment. To comply withFISCO requirements, the power supply,terminators, field devices and the interconnectingcables must conform with the FISCO requirementsdefined in EN 60079-11.

  • 3.2 Ex ia entity systemsThe BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator has Ex iacertification with entity parameters for applicationsin Zone 0, 1 and 2.

    The BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator may beconnected to any intrinsically safe segmentproviding:

    The device powering the fieldbus segment isATEX Ex ia certified for Zone 0, 1 or 2applications, or Ex ib certified for applicationin Zone 1 or 2, or Ex ic certified forapplications in Zone 2. The outputparameters of the segment should be equalto or less than:

    Uo = 22V dcIo = 250mA dcPo = 1.2W

    The segment can provide an additional 13mAto power the Fieldbus Indicator.

    The equivalent capacitance Ci of theBA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator is zero andthe equivalent inductance is insignificant.Therefore these BA414DF-F parameters donot need to be considered.

    3.3 Ex ic entity systemsThe BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator also has Ex iccertification with entity parameters for applicationsin Zone 2. The higher Ui voltage allows theindicator to be used with segment couplerspowered by Ex e or Power-i fieldbus trunks.

    When installed in Zone 2 the BA414DF-F FieldbusIndicator may be connected to any intrinsically safesegment providing:

    The segment can provide an additional 13mAto power the Fieldbus Indicator.

  • 4. INSTALLATION

    4.1 LocationThe BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator is housed in arobust IP66 glass reinforced polyester (GRP)enclosure incorporating an armoured glass windowand stainless steel fittings. It is suitable for exteriormounting in most industrial environments,including offshore and waste water treatmentinstallations. Please consult BEKA associates ifhigh vibration is anticipated.

    The BA414DF-F enclosure is surface mounting.Accessory kits described in sections 6.3 of thismanual enable the instrument to be mounted ontoa vertical or horizontal pipe.

    The field terminals and the two mounting holes arelocated in a separate compartment with a sealedcover allowing the instrument to be installedwithout exposing the display assembly.

    The BA414DF-F earth terminal is connected to thecarbon loaded GRP enclosure. If this enclosure isnot bolted to an earthed post or structure, the earthterminal should be connected to a local earth.

    The BA414DF-F enclosure is supplied with abonding plate to ensure electrical continuitybetween the three conduit / cable entries.

    Note: Although certified for safe use between–40 and +70oC, the guaranteed operatingtemperature range of the BA414DF-F FieldbusIndicator is –20 to +70oC.

    4.2 Installation ProcedureFig 2 illustrates the instrument installationprocedure.

    a. Remove the instrument terminal cover byunscrewing the two captive 'A' screws.

    b. Mount the instrument on a flat surface andsecure with two M6 screws through the 'B'holes. Alternatively use one of the mountingkits described in section 6.3

    c. Remove the temporary hole plug and installa cable gland or conduit entry with requiredingress protection. If more than one entry isrequired, replace one or both IP66 stoppingplugs with a cable gland or conduit entryhaving the required ingress protection.

    d. Connect the field wiring to the terminals asshown in Fig 3.

    e. Replace the instrument terminal cover andevenly tighten the two 'A' screws.

    CAUTION installation in Zone 0When installed in a Zone 0 potentiallyexplosive atmosphere requiring EPL Gaapparatus, the instrument shall be installedsuch that even in the event of rare incidents, anignition source due to impact or frictionbetween the aluminium label and iron/steel isexcluded.

    No special conditions apply when the indicator isinstalled in Zone 1 or in Zone 2.

    4.3 EMC The BA414DF-F complies with the requirements ofthe European EMC Directive 2014/30/EU. Forspecified immunity, all wiring should be inscreened twisted pairs with the screens earthed atone point in the safe area.

    5. MAINTENANCE

    5.1 Fault finding during commissioningIf a BA414DF-F fails to function duringcommissioning the following procedure should befollowed:

    5.2 Fault finding after commissioning

    ENSURE PLANT SAFETY BEFORESTARTING MAINTENANCE

    Live maintenance is permitted onintrinsically safe equipment installed in ahazardous area, but only certified testequipment should be used unless a gasclearance certificate is available.

    If a BA414DF-F fails after it has been functioningcorrectly, the table shown in section 5.1 may helpto identify the cause of the failure.

    If this procedure does not reveal the cause of thefault, it is recommended that the instrument isreplaced.

  • 5.3 ServicingWe recommend that faulty BA414DF-F FieldbusIndicators are returned to BEKA associates or toour local agent for repair.

    5.4 Routine maintenanceThe mechanical and electrical condition of theinstrument should be regularly checked. Initiallyannual inspections are recommended, but theinspection frequency should be adjusted to suit theenvironmental conditions.

    5.5 GuaranteeInstruments which fail within the guarantee periodshould be returned to BEKA associates or our localagent. It is helpful if a brief description of the faultsymptoms is provided.

    5.6 Customer commentsBEKA associates is always pleased to receivecomments from customers about our products andservices. All communications are acknowledgedand whenever possible, suggestions areimplemented.

    6. ACCESSORIES

    6.1 Scale and tag markingBA414DF-F indicators are fitted with a blankescutcheon around the liquid crystal display. Ifspecified when the instrument is ordered, this canbe supplied printed with units of measurement andtag information, plus a scale for the horizontalbargraph. Alternatively, information may be addedon-site via an embossed strip, dry transfer or apermanent marker.

    To gain access to the display escutcheon removethe terminal cover by unscrewing the two 'A'screws which will reveal two concealed 'D' screws.Unscrew all four 'D' screws and carefully lift off thefront of the instrument. The location of all thesescrews is shown in Fig 2.

    After adding the required legends, or fitting a newpre-printed self-adhesive escutcheon, ensure thatthe gasket is correctly positioned beforereassembling the instrument enclosure.

    6.2 Tag plateThe BA414DF-F can be supplied with a blank orcustom laser engraved stainless steel platesecured by two screws to the front of theinstrument enclosure. This plate canaccommodate:

    1 row of 9 alphanumeric characters 10mm high

    or 1 row of 11 alphanumeric characters 7mm high

    or 2 rows of 18 alphanumeric characters 5mm high

    6.3 Pipe mounting kitsTwo pipe mounting kits are available for securingthe BA414DF-F to a horizontal or vertical pipe.

    BA392D Stainless steel bracket secured by twoworm drive hose clips for 60 to 80mmoutside diameter pipes.

    BA393 Heavy-duty stainless steel bracketsecured by a single 'V' bolt. Will clampto any pipe with an outside diameterbetween 40 and 80mm.

    A1.0 ATEX dust certificationIn addition to ATEX certification permittinginstallation in explosive gas atmospheres which isdescribed in the main section of this instructionmanual, the BA414DF-F is available with optionalATEX Ex ia IIIC and Ex ic IIIC dust certification. IfATEX dust certification is required it must berequested when the BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicatoris purchased.

    CAUTIONBefore installing a BA414DF-F FieldbusIndicator in the presence of acombustible dust, ensure that thecertification information label, which islocated on the top of the instrument,specifies dust certification - see sectionA1.3

    A1.1 Ex ia IIIC entity systemsThe BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicator has Ex ia IIICT100ºC Da IP66 certification. Installations shouldcomply with EN 60079-14 Electrical installationdesign, selection and erection.

    The Fieldbus Indicator may be installed in:

    Zone 20 explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is continuously present, or forlong periods or frequently.

    Zone 21 explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is likely to occur occasionallyin normal operation.

    Zone 22 explosive atmosphere in the form of a cloud of combustible dust in air is not likely to occur in normaloperation, but if it does occur, will only persist for a short period.

    Be used with dusts having a Minimum Ignition Temperature of:

    Dust cloud 150oC

    Dust layer on BA414DF-F 175oCup to 5mm thick

    Dust layer on BA414DF-F Refer toover 5mm thick. EN 60079:14

    At an ambient temperature between -20 and +60oC

    A1.3 Certification Label InformationThe certification label is fitted in a recess on thetop outer surface of the enclosure. It shows detailsof the ATEX dust certification including themaximum surface temperature and ingressprotection; a statement that the instrument is aFISCO Field Device, plus BEKA associates nameand location. IECEx dust approval information isalso shown, non-European certification informationmay also be included.

    The label includes boxed areas which should bemarked by the installer to show which of thecertifications is being used.

    The instrument serial number and date ofmanufacture are recorded on a separate labelinside the terminal compartment.

    A1.4 Installation & maintenanceThe ATEX dust certification relies on the FieldbusIndicator enclosure being dust-tight. Thereforethe terminal cover should only be removed whendust cannot enter the instrument enclosure. Beforereplacing the terminal cover ensure that thesealing gaskets are undamaged and are free fromforeign bodies.

  • APPENDIX 2 FM Approval for use in the USA andcFM Approval for use in Canada

    A2.0 Factory Mutual ApprovalFor installations in the USA and Canada, a versionof the BA414DF-F is available with FM and CFMintrinsic safety and nonincendive approval, projectidentifications 3027031 and 3027031C. Copiesof the Certificates of Compliance are availablefrom BEKA associates sales office andwww.beka.co.uk

    The FM and CFM Approved version is identical tothe ATEX version except the three M20 x 1,5tapped cable entries are replaced by three plainunthreaded 22.25mm diameter entries. Approvedhubs and glands are listed in note 6 of IntrinsicallySafe Control Drawing CI410-12 and note 5 ofNonincendive Control Drawing CI410-13. Thecertification label on the FM and CFM Approvedversion includes ATEX gas certification informationso that the Fieldbus Indicator may be used insystems covered by either authority.

    A2.1 Intrinsic safety approvalThe BA414DF-F is approved to FM Class 3610intrinsic safety standard for use in indoor andoutdoor hazardous (classified) locations.Installations must comply with BEKA associatesControl Drawing CI410-12, which is attached tothis Appendix, ANSI/ISA RP12.06.01 ‘Installation ofIntrinsically Safe Systems for Hazardous(Classified) Locations’ and with the NationalElectrical Code ANSI/NFPA70.

    Canadian installations must comply with theCanadian Electrical Code C22.2 and with BEKAassociates Control Drawing CI410-13, which isattached to this Appendix.

    The BA414DF-F has a T4 rating at ambienttemperatures up to +70oC and may be used withthe following gases and dusts:

    Intrinsic SafetyDivision 1 or 2

    Class II Group E, F & G

    Class III

    Zone 0, 1 or 2Class 1 Group IIC Group IIB Group IIA

    The FM and CFM entity parameters are identical tothe ATEX parameters and, like the ATEXcertification, confirm that the BA414DF-F complieswith the FISCO Field Device requirementsspecified in IEC60079-27. The intrinsically safesystem shown in Fig 1 of this manual maytherefore be used for installations in the USA andCanada, providing the fieldbus power supply,terminators, Zener barriers and galvanic isolatorsare FM Approved for US installations and CFM orCSA Approved for Canadian installations. Allinstallations must comply with BEKA associatesControl Drawing CI410-12.

    FM and CFM Approvals also allows the BA414DF-F to be connected to non-FISCO systems usingthe entity concept – see section 3.2 of this manual.

    A2.2 Nonincendive approvalThe BA414DF-F is FM Class 3611 nonincendiveapproved allowing it to be installed in Division 2indoor and outdoor hazardous (classified)locations without the need for Zener barriers orgalvanic isolators. US installations must complywith the BEKA associates Control DrawingCI410-13, which is attached to this Appendix, andwith the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA70.

    Canadian nonincendive installations must complywith the Canadian Electrical Code C22.2 and withBEKA associates Control Drawing CI410-13, whichis attached to this Appendix.

    The FM and CFM Nonincendive Approvals alsoallow the BA414DF-F fieldbus indicator to beconnected to any appropriately certified FNICOcompliant fieldbus segment.

    The BA414DF-F has a T4 rating at ambienttemperatures up to +70oC and may be used withthe following gases and dusts:

    The specified IECEx gas and dust intrinsic safetyparameters are identical to the ATEX safetyparameters described in the main section andAppendix 1 of this manual.

    The IECEx certificate may be downloaded fromwww.beka.co.uk, www.iecex.com or requestedfrom the BEKA sales office.

    A3.2 InstallationThe IECEx and ATEX certificates specify identicalsafety parameters and installation requirements forboth gas and dust approvals. The ATEXinstallation requirements specified in the mainsection and in Appendix 1 of this manual maytherefore be used for IECEx installations, but thelocal code of practice should also be consulted.

    CAUTION installation in Zone 0When installed in a Zone 0 potentiallyexplosive atmosphere requiring EPL Gaapparatus, the instrument shall be installedsuch that even in the event of rare incidents, anignition source due to impact or frictionbetween the aluminium label and iron/steel isexcluded.

    No special conditions apply when the indicator isinstalled in Zone 1 or in Zone 2.

    A3.3 IECEx Dust certificationIf IECEx dust certification is required it must berequested when the BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicatoris purchased.

    CAUTIONBefore installing a BA414DF-F FieldbusIndicator in the presence of a combustibledust, ensure that the certification informationlabel, which is located on the top of theinstrument, specifies dust certification - seebelow.

    A3.4 Versions of the BA414DF-FAll versions of the BA414DF-F Fieldbus Indicatorhave IECEx certification. This includes:

    ATEX version for use in gas atmospheres.

    ATEX version for use in gas and dustatmospheres has IECEx gas & dust certification.
