Breakfast raises funds for ‘March’ babies The annual March of Dimes Breakfast for Babies was held last Thursday morning at RJ’s Hibachi and managed to rake in $700 for the charitable organization. The third annual event was sponsored by March of Dimes, MTD, Insouth Bank and RJ’s Hibachi. Local ‘celebrities’ presented themselves as the wait staff for the morning as they trotted from table to table serving all needs of the customers and perfecting their coffee pour. All of their tips were donated to the fundraiser, as well as a portion of the breakfast revenue. This year’s local ambassador, Sarah Willis was also on hand helping with the breakfast. Sarah is the daughter of Lt. Chuck and Jennifer Willis. March of Dimes community director Jeannie Patrick said she was very pleased with the results and appreciative of the Haywood residents for their continual support of the organization. “Throughout the morning we talked to many people who had been personally touched by the March of Dimes,” said Patrick. “From one whose mother had polio to several who have premature children. This is the story of the March of Dimes.” March of Dimes was founded in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt who had polio and was looking for a cure. In 1955 when the Salk Vaccine was tested and proved effective in eliminating polio. The March of Dimes then took on the mission of finding cures for the many birth defects and now our emphasis is on finding reasons for premature births. Patrick added, “I would like to issue a special thank you to Ronnie Jones at RJ’s Hibachi, Greg Vanstory at MTD and all the wonderful Brownsville VIP’s who came out to serve and donated all tips to March of Dimes.” Haywood March of Dimes ambassador Sarah Willis, center, is pictured with community director Jeannie Patrick and Sen.
