Pranayama
• Pranayama, the yogic art of breathing, comes from the root words prana and ayama.
• Prana :: “life force.” • Ayama :: “expansion, manifestation, or prolongation.” • We are not simply a limited physical body, but are, in fact, an
immortal spirit.

Dangers • A common cause of imbalance is attempting to progress too
quickly. • By aggressively practicing pranayama without the proper

• Some of the dangers of pranayama lie in the bandhas and kumbhakas.

Pranayama is the Extension of Life
• With proper practice the yogi is able to control prana in such a way that there is no dispersion of the life force.
• Ayurveda teaches that one fundamental cause of disease and death is parinama, or time in relation to motion.
• Through pranayama and meditation, the motion of the mind
slows and can even be stopped.
