• Life is journey from a pain (birth) to a pain (death)...Pain is a dear friend who walks along and tells when something is wrong.

• ‘Pain’ is not just a complaint. A whole system of medicines, methods and money revolves around ‘Pain’.

Killing Pain

• It is an instant reaction for so many of us when pain first strikes, we simply pop a pill to relieve our symptoms.

• “In a world where everyone is looking for means and medicines to minimize and kill the pain, Ayurveda can be a ray of hope- to understand Pain- As a friend not a foe...”

• In my opinion, ‘pain’ is always misunderstood. If we change the way we look at pain, we can certainly find newer ways of controlling, managing and reducing it.

• In Ayurveda ‘Shoola’ is the term used for  pain.

• The term 'Shoola' is generally referred to pain in abdomen.

• Pain is an indication of a vata imbalance.

• The aggravated vata brings rukshyata (dryness),laghutva (porousness), kharatva (coarseness) which causes the symptom of pain.

• Apart from the normal physical causes, the desires for material pleasure (ragas) and passions are considered as causing and aggravating diseases.

Causes of pain in Ayurveda

Page 9: Ayurvedic pain management

• We have a natural inclination to seek pleasure and avoid pain, which is termed as kama.

• So long as the mind clings to the material pleasure (ragas) and desires, wellbeing in the real sense is unachievable.
