Fuel injection technology began to spread outside the

realm of prestige cars and to replace traditional carburetors

in the early 1980s. Since then the technology used in the

average car has developed on almost a daily basis. Electro-

nic control units have replaced mechanical operating and

control systems to such an extent that today, as we all know,

all the main vehicle functions are controlled by an ECU.

Modern vehicles are therefore subject to completely diffe-

rent faults, and it goes without saying that the work of the

technician has had to change radically.

Blown head gaskets, seizures and sticking valves are now

extremely rare events; they have been replaced by electro-

nic malfunctions. In recent times, however, electronic errors

have become exponentially more common as the typical

vehicle has acquired more and more control units.

Many more electronic systems have appeared on vehicles as

the result of international emission control standards, star-

ting with Euro 1 in 1993 and progressing to the current Euro

5. In the face of ever stricter emission limits, manufacturers

have had to develop new devices and solutions, again ba-

sed on electronic control units, to reduce consumption and

emissions without compromising power and performance.

As a result we have seen the arrival of a whole new genera-

tion of vehicles packed with advanced electronics, in much

the same way as we have seen electronics encroaching into

other areas of our lives too. Just think, for example, of how

rapidly e-mail has replaced conventional mail, Wikipedia

has taken the place of paper encyclopedias, and Google

Maps have out-done traditional paper maps etc..

There can be no doubt that the Internet has become our

primary means of communication and data transfer, or that

it now influences almost every aspect of our daily lives.

By now we also know how to use the latest generation of

mobile phones and to find ready-to-use information simply

by selecting an icon.

And that is not all. The most recent mobiles can be updated

with new functions as and when they become available.

The new AXONE 4, is the flagship of TEXA’s product range,

and will amaze not only the average technician but

even experts in vehicle diagnostics for the number and

effectiveness of its functions.

As is to be expected from TEXA, the AXONE 4 is superbly

designed and is made from top quality materials. TEXA

is convinced that robust and stylish design is not only

important for well-equipped service centers, but also that a

well-made exterior reflects well-made internal components

too, as any technician who wants to project a quality image

Take just one glance at the AXONE 4 and you cannot fail to

notice the generous display. The AXONE 4’s top quality, 9.7”

TFT touch screen boasts a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels for

easy reading under all lighting conditions.

All operations are performed directly on the display

(dropdown menus are displayed when necessary) – the

only physical keys are the On/Off key and a multifunction

key.

The similarity of the AXONE 4 to a top of the range Windows

Netbook PC is also evident from the electronics inside: the

AXONE 4 boasts a powerful Intel Atom processor of the

latest generation, and 2 GB of RAM.

Another unique feature is the advanced 32 GB hard disk.

This is based on solid state technology (i.e. it has no moving

parts) for greater robustness, reduced battery consumption

and cooler running.

The standard options include a VGA camera, useful for

documenting and recording the various steps of a job. The

camera is also extremely useful for ordering spare parts and

for communication with video assistance service, as well as

a high quality loud speaker.

Like the latest consumer products, the AXONE 4 is able to

rotate the display from portrait to landscape depending on

how it is held, leaving it up to the user to decide how to

orient the tool for the job in hand.

Even when connected to the sophisticated DOCKING

STATION the unit can rotate through 180° on a supported

angle at 15°. In addition, a simplified Mini DOCKING

STATION is available, fitted with special clamps for holding

the AXONE 4 to the steering wheel.

Beyond the standard wireless connection, a special

Bluetooth module is employed that allows the user to

interact with the TEXA interfaces. The AXONE 4 due to our

close attention and exclusive new connectivity products

includes 3 different connection modes:

1. Internal Wi-Fi module, for wireless connectivity to the

workshop network and downloading all available updates,

2. Optional internal HSDPA module that allows the same

services to be used using a mobile connection.

3. Through an ordinary smartphone already used by the

technician, which provides a Wi-Fi internet connection.

Thanks to this solution it is possible to access TEXA’s on-line

services, such as RESOLVED FAULTS or REMOTE ASSISTANCE,

from anywhere.

ROBUST AND WATERPROOF SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO BE TOUGH TO HANDLE THE WORST CONDITIONS

Using a standard PC as a diagnostic interface in a vehicle

repair shop is fine, but there are risks involved.

The main problem, of course, is that a standard PC is far from

compatible with a workshop environment, where there is a

high risk of its being dropped, and where the presence of

lubricants, liquids and dirt is inevitable.

Handling is another problem: laptops need to be handled

with the sort of care and attention that the hard-pressed

mechanic cannot always manage on busy days.

When they designed and developed the AXONE 4, TEXA’s

engineers simulated all the risks that can occur in a vehicle

service centre, and found solutions to them all.

Remember too that, since January 2011, TEXA is one of

only a handful of diagnostic tool manufacturers around the

world to be certified to ISO/TS 16949 standard – a standard

developed specifically for the automotive industry by the

IATF (International Task Force Automotive), a group made

up of European, American and Japanese automobile manu-

facturers and associations.

ISO/TS 16949 includes all the requirements of ISO 9001

plus additional requirements specific to the automotive

industry.

Though the rigorous procedures required by this standard

(including zero defectivity, FMEA, PPAP, APQP, SPC and MSA

quality controls) apply mainly to the development and

manufacture of devices for installation on board vehicles,

TEXA applies them to all its products.

As a result, the AXONE 4 is extremely robust, and even able

to conform to military standard MIL STD 810F.

Most importantly, the AXONE 4 is not confined to use in the

workshop. On the contrary, you can use it anywhere: indo-

ors or out, on a work bench or on the ground underneath a

car; you can use it when working on farm machinery, in the

mud and in the dust.

Indeed, an innovative component configuration (for

example the solid state hard disk) has been developed for

this leading product, using the latest generation and hi-

ghest quality materials to withstand the severest of shocks.

AXONE 4 can even be used in the rain, thanks to its water-

proofing to standard IP65.

The soon to be released “AXONE 4 Marine” version will

instead be dedicated to work in shipyards. A unique

solution, patented by TEXA and a world exclusive, allows

the AXONE 4 to float in liquids, all the while maintaining a

protection rating of IP67.

A rigorous design process was needed to achieve these

impressive results, and the AXONE 4 was subjected to a

series of severe tests using special equipment to simulate

the harshest environments. Its great robustness thus

allows you to use AXONE 4 outside the workshop, in tough

conditions like emergency repair jobs on customers’ cars in

the rain and snow, or to work on site on heavy construction

and quarry vehicles, where dust and dirt are the order of

the day.

THE AXONE 4 AND WI-FI INTERFACES DIAGNOSTICS FROM TWO NEW POINTS OF VIEW

TEXA has often emphasised that a modern diagnostic

system requires two physically distinct and separate units

connected by radio.

The first module (e.g. a Navigator nano, UNIProbe,

GASBOX, etc.) contains the electronics that physically inter-

face with the vehicle; the second module contains the di-

splay and also houses the processing and control software

(the AXONE 4 in this case).

These modules combine to provide whatever diagnostic

functions are required for the job in hand (auto- diagnosis,

oscilloscope, exhaust gas analyser, etc).

This solution allows you to approach your work in two dif-

ferent ways:

1: from a “mobile” viewpoint, with the AXONE 4 in your

hand, and with the Navigator nano plugged into the

diagnostic socket. Thus equipped, you are free to

walk around the vehicle to check sensors and other

electronic devices personally.

2: from a “fixed” position at a work bench or car lift,

where the two diagnostic interfaces can work simul-

taneously and act as your eyes and ears.

The AXONE 4 incorporates a new Dual Control function

that lets you interface with two different diagnostic

modules at the same time.

For example, you can use a Navigator Nano to activate

or adjust a device and to operate a throttle body, and

at the same time use UNIProbe’s oscilloscope signal to

analyse voltage from the butterfly angle sensor.

The fact that almost every component in a modern vehicle

is managed by an ECU means that system testing can be so

much easier, but only if you are free to move around inside

and outside the vehicle without being restricted by trailing

cables, no matter how long.

Totally indispensable when working on heavy goods vehi-

cles, the freedom of movement permitted by wireless con-

nectivity is also extremely useful on cars and boats, since it

allows one person to perform tests and checks that would

otherwise require the assistance of a colleague. Think, for

example, of the checks you have to make at the rear of the

vehicle, or brake pad replacement procedures that require

the calipers to be opened, or monitoring adjustments to a

suspension system.

CUSTOMER COMPLAINING ABOUT AN UNUSUAL FAULT?SEARCH OUR “SOLVED ERRORS” TO FIND THE RIGHT ANSWER IMMEDIATELY

Today’s technicians have to deal with a vast range of

electronic faults. There is an incredible number of makes,

models and ECUs on the market, and they can combine to

create an almost infinite number of errors.

It does not matter how complete and accurate a diagnostic

tool is. Faults are often caused by a number of simultaneous

malfunctions and errors, or may even be caused by a defect

that is not recorded as an error in any autodiagnostic

control unit.

TEXA solved this problem back in 2007, when it reached

an agreement with Google Search Appliance to develop a

special search engine. Powered by Google, the Search works

just like a typical internet search, but is specially designed to

serve technicians and is populated by information sourced

from the vast experience of TEXA and its call centres all over

Europe.

Just use the keyboard displayed on your AXONE 4’s large

touch screen to enter a description of the fault you are

faced with, and Google will take you to the solution you

need. You don’t even need to worry about spelling or

grammar, because Google’s “Did you mean” function will

automatically propose any corrections necessary.

Provided you have a Wi-Fi connection and subscribe

to TEX@INFO + Google, your AXONE 4 will allow you

to interrogate TEXA’s central database and locate tried

and tested repair procedures for the fault in question -

immediately.

TEXA’s database is a fantastic source of information, and

users are finding it more and more effective as time goes

by. At the time of writing the database already contains

over 7000 repair solutions and, on average, TEXA’s servers

acquire between 50 to 100 new solutions every week. The

result is a genuine encyclopaedia of automotive electronics.

The technician can enter the data relative to the vehicle (2) or can type in a free text of the description of the fault (3). The “did you mean” feature prompts the user with the most likely text in case of an incorrect entry (4). Within seconds the TEXA servers provide the complete information sheet relative to the fault, including the correct troubleshooting procedure.

The AXONE 4’s impressive list of standard equipment

includes an excellent VGA camera with a CMOS sensor for

clearer images.

Far from being a gimmick, the camera is an extremely

useful tool for vehicle technicians and diagnostic techni-

cians working with the AXONE 4.

One problem that is frequently encountered is that the

official procedure for fitting or removing a mechanical and

electronic component can be difficult to follow.

And if you have a customer waiting, you may find yourself

removing a part you have never taken off before, and

the procedure with photographs that are automatically

Under legislation governing the freedom of competition,

introduced some time ago, even independent garages are

now authorised to perform services and maintenance work

under warranty, provided they respect the specifications of

the manufacturer.

The IDC4 operating system that comes with the AXONE 4

contains a “Maintenance data” function that provides com-

plete data sheets on all the service operations required at

different mileages.

This information is essential not only to ensure accurate

and professional servicing, but also to avoid invalidating

the vehicle’s official warranty.

The AXONE 4’s scheduled maintenance sheets provide all

the technical data required for the vehicle, as well as electri-

cal data for its auxiliary systems.

They also include specific sections on complicated or de-

licate operations like timing belt replacement and wheel

alignment.

Thanks to constant collaboration with Autodata, TEXA also

provides extra information on belts, exhaust systems, lubri-

cant drainage and refilling, air conditioning system fittings,

the location of anti-pollen filters, and more besides.

The scheduled maintenance sheets even give you the lo-

distributed in the last twenty years, TEXA is a truly efficient

Our TEXAEDU department is responsible for training stu-

dents and professionals alike, and is constantly developing

new manuals and publications providing detailed explana-

tions of how all the electronic and mechanical systems on a

modern vehicle function.

All this information is transformed into digital data sheets,

translated into all languages, and recorded in the IDC4

database.

So whenever you need, you can consult a vast digital

encyclopaedia containing not only information on system

diagnostic and repair procedures, but even a detailed de-

scription of how the system you are working on functions.

The way in which it processes information is one of the key

strengths of IDC4 software.

One of the problems technicians complain about most

frequently is that the masses of data from different

manufacturers that they have to plough through and digest

are presented in totally different ways.

Electrical wiring diagrams, for example, can be presented in

ways that are very hard to interpret.

Each manufacturer has their own method and style of

presenting technical information on their own models.

The wiring diagrams for a BMW look totally different to

those for a Mercedes, because the two companies follow

different logic and present their information in a unique

way, unlike any of their competitors.

For the multi-brand technician, the result is tower of Babel.

To be able to work on any make of vehicle, you need to learn

dozens of different methods and styles of presentation.

TEXA has always been committed to making the mecha-

nic’s work easier, and not more difficult! That is why TEXA

SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS COMPLETE, STANDARDISED AND INTERACTIVE

re-processes all electrical wiring diagrams to ensure that

the style of presentation and the logic behind them is

exactly the same for all makes and models on the road.

Once you have displayed the overview of the system you

are working on, you can select and zoom in on specific

areas to view components in greater detail.

And by clicking on a component you can go directly to a

data sheet describing it and giving its location, its electri-

cal specifications, and additional information on how it

CONFORMITY TO PASS-THRU STANDARDSTHE AXONE 4 IS FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH J2534 AND ISO-22900

The EURO 5 standard that came into force on the 1st Sep-

tember 2009 obliges manufacturers to homologate all new

models of car in conformity to strict new emission limits.

EURO 5 standard also incorporates SAE J2534 and ISO-

22900 standards, which liberalise the reprogramming of

electronic control units. This has placed independent gara-

ges on the same level as official dealers as far as operations

like eliminating engine malfunctions and encrypting copies

of keys are concerned.

The PASS-THRU standard, as it is commonly referred to, ma-

kes it possible for any repair shop to connect to the central

server of any vehicle manufacturer and download software

packages or official technical information.

Unfortunately, this service is not free. Manufacturers have

complicated price lists for the applications you can down-

load.

Many of the diagnostic products on the market today are

not able to handle the procedures required by the PASS-

THRU protocol autonomously and completely.

This is because the standards involve specific protocols that

these devices are not able to respect.

And we are not talking about mechanical, electrical or elec-

tronic hardware, but about incompatibility with SAE J2534

standard on a software and operating system level.

SAE J2534 standard is based on the Windows opera-

ting system, and categorically excludes the possibility of

performing PASS-THRU procedures with devices running

other operating systems.

Diagnostic tools based on Linux or Mac software cannot run

PASS-THRU procedures on their own, but need to be con-

nected to a Windows PC before they can access the sources

that manufacturers are obliged to make available on-line.

These tools may be sold as “PASS-THRU compatible”, but in

reality they are little more than interfaces that have to be

connected to a computer before they can run the procedu-

res you need.

This of course means extra cost (for a dedicated PC) and the

inconvenience of another set of cables and optional devi-

ces.

The AXONE 4 on the other hand, linked to a Navigator nano,

can connect to the Internet without any other device, and

without the added cost and bulk of an extra PC.

Thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity (and the optional HSDPA

module if no wireless network is within range) you can

use the AXONE 4 indoors and out, for example to repair a

vehicle at the roadside, dialoguing autonomously with the

vehicle manufacturer’s website.

The AXONE 4, with a Navigator nano, is therefore fully com-

patible with SAE J2534 and ISO-22900 standards, and per-

mits multi-brand repair shops to reset ECUs and encrypt

keys without incurring additional costs.

To provide a complete, professional service, you need to

have an in-depth knowledge of the vehicle you are working

on, as well as details of any jobs that have been done on it

previously.

The AXONE 4 lets you save the details of every vehicle that

comes into your workshop, and all the jobs you do on it, in

a dedicated section of memory.

Whenever a new customer enters your workshop, you can

record his vehicle’s details and create a new job sheet at the

same time.

This creates a vehicle-specific folder in which you can also

store all relevant customer and billing details, etc..

You can record a brief description of the fault the customer

is complaining of on each job sheet.

Once the repair is complete, your AXONE 4 lets you enter

notes on your work and record any new settings in the job’s

own sub-folder.

You can recall this information at a later date or if you need

it for scheduled maintenance operations, roadworthiness

tests or other repairs. Just enter the first few numbers and

letters of the vehicle registration number and the vehicle

appears in the menu, along with its service history.

The AXONE 4’s advanced functionality greatly impro-

ves customer fidelity, since your customer knows that, in

addition to the necessary professional knowledge, you also

have all the relevant information on any modifications and

repairs done on his car in the past.

IDC4 allows the tests carried out on a specific vehicle to be archived by saving the data in an easy to fill in form. When the same vehicle is brought back to the workshop, the mechanic can simply call up the customer sheet in order to view all the interventions previously carried out for that specific customer.

The AXONE 4 incorporates the latest technologies and the

latest generation of components.

Wi-Fi connectivity comes as standard, so the AXONE 4 can

connect to the Internet at any time without you having to

plug in a telephone cable.

Wi-Fi connectivity also allows the AXONE 4 to provide a

series of extra functions that you are sure to find useful in

your daily work.

We have already seen how easy it is find out how to repair

a fault in real time, by interrogating the “SOLVED ERRORS”

database on TEXA’s servers over the internet.

We have also seen how you can connect directly to the

websites of spare parts distributors to select and order any

parts you need to replace.

Now there is another revolutionary new function that

allows you to keep your AXONE 4 bang up to date and

ready to work on even the most recent models.

Provided you are connected to the internet, TEXA now

offers a continuous update service.

Until recently, TEXA diagnostic software was updated by

means of periodic new releases containing packages of

hundreds of new systems and dozens of new makes and

models.

From now on, as soon as a new diagnostic system or a new

model is introduced, or as soon as an update becomes

available for a autodiagnostic function, TEXA will release it

in real time over the internet, for you to download and save

in your AXONE 4.

TEXA will continue to issue regular new update packages.

All you have to do is press a button and select what you

want to download.

Continuous updates offer two benefits:

- Firstly, as a technician, you can rely on a constantly

up-to-date diagnostic tool, and download updates faster

because they are smaller;

- Secondly, TEXA can respond more promptly to the needs

of users, and rapidly make available data requested on any

new models or engines.

TEXA will continue to distribute additional information

such as technical data sheets, wiring diagrams and service

bulletins in the usual way, through regular update packages.

Workshops that are not connected to the internet and

that are therefore unable to make use of the continuous

update service can still update their AXONE 4 software in

the conventional way, using the DVDs distributed with each

new release.

All you need for this is a docking station and a DVD player

(available as optional accessories).

The user will be notified anytime a new update is available within the “SERVICE” section (1); to launch an automatic download of the update simply click on the description (2). The lower part of the screen will indicate the download progression of the individual elements (3). Once the update has been downloaded, all the user has to do is follow the step by step procedure prompted by the software (4).

Thanks to its IDC4 operating system, the AXONE 4 and

Navigator nano “satellite” module represent the perfect

solution for serial diagnostics on electronic control units,

on all sorts of vehicle.

The AXONE 4 is not just a diagnostic tool but a working

partner that is always at your side, a practical and willing

assistant, and a source of solutions to all sorts of problem.

IDC4 software has been specially developed to make vehicle

repair work easier, and the AXONE 4 uses its capabilities to

the full. You can therefore rely on a practical and manage-

able tool, with a bright, generous and easy to read display.

The software’s graphic interface is simple and its comman-

ds are clear and intuitive.

The entire procedure is completely automatic; all you have

to do is select the vehicle you are working on.

If you have never worked on that particular vehicle before,

simply select the make, model, engine type and engine

code.

Easy access menus let you select individual items by their

initial letters to make the process even easier.

If you have already worked on a vehicle and have saved its

details in memory, simply enter its registration number to

load all the information you have on it automatically.

As soon as the system identifies the vehicle, the software

automatically proposes a list of functions available for it,

including a guided autodiagnostic procedure.

This application lets you view clearly presented information

on all the electronic systems on the vehicle in front of you.

The “Parameters” function lets you monitor parameter va-

lues either in numeric form or as easy-to-read coloured

graphs. The software can also provide a list of default para-

meter values as a practical guide.

The “Errors” function checks for any logged errors and

highlights the ECUs with an error in memory.

The “States” function lets you analyse the states of the

various components and systems that can be switched on

or off.

You can even display identification data for each ECU in

order to identify the one you want without any margin for

error.

The “Activations” and “Adjustments” functions let you

active or regulate the vehicle’s electronic components and

systems safely and easily, following a guided procedure.

Once the vehicle and the specific system have been selected, the procedure guides the mechanic through the test with the help of explanatory images and videos (3). The various functions available are listed on the bar located on the left hand side of the screen (4). Parameters (5) and faults (6) are displayed clearly and instantaneously.

TGS2 AUTO-SCANNING SAVE TIME AND GAIN IN CERTAINTY

TGS2 (TEXA Global Scan 2) is second generation auto-scan

software that can find all the electronic control units on a

vehicle.

Unlike its first generation predecessor, TGS2 software is spe-

cifically designed for use by multi-brand workshops.

The advantages are clear: the mechanic receives immedia-

te feedback on all the devices that can be diagnosed using

the TEXA tool over a direct connection that does not require

any special procedures.

When a vehicle enters the workshop, all you need do is con-

nect your TEXA interface to the on-board diagnostic socket;

IDC4 software scans all known systems completely automa-

tically, without any manual intervention on your part.

If any errors are found during this procedure, you can switch

immediately to the diagnostic function for the control unit

in question.

If, on the other hand, the vehicle system is found to be wor-

king correctly, you can access each ECU directly to test it

individually or to check its settings.

This new generation of scanning software from TEXA repre-

sents a major step forward in the direction of simplifying

the difficult life of the vehicle mechanic.

Thanks to TGS2, you no longer need to locate the area of

the fault manually. The function identifies all problems

automatically, with clear benefits in terms of the time and

By putting a tick next to the electronic systems to analyze (2), an automatic scan of the control units is carried out. The green and red symbols indicate whether or not faults are present (4 and 5). At the end of the test it is possible to print a detailed report of the results (6).

REGULATIONS AND CODESDIRECT ACCESS TO MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR FUNCTIONS

The AXONE 4 proposes four macro-classes of functions,

containing hundreds of specific functions for scheduled

maintenance and repairs, and for activating, programming

and verifying all the devices normally controlled by ECUs.

In conjunction with the “Solved errors” by Google function,

the TGS2 auto-scan function, and the service warning light

reset function, the addition of these four macro-classes to

the AXONE 4’s software represents yet another step forward

in TEXA’s mission to make the work of the mechanic and

diagnostic technician as easy and intuitive as possible.

Let us have a look at the function macro-classes mentioned

above.

1. “Vehicle Maintenance” functions

From today, the AXONE 4 lets you perform tasks like recor-

ding new disc pads, self-teaching new remote controls,

calibrating steering angle sensors and rotating tyres with

TPMS sensors simply by accessing the item from the a set of

Vehicle Maintenance functions.

2. “Adjustments and coding” functions

If you have repairs to do, the AXONE 4 offers you a quick

and easy way to go about things by providing access to the

functions you need via a dedicated menu.

The “Adjustments and Coding” functions lets you reprogram

the engine control unit if you change a mass flow meter, or

lets you fit a new instrument panel or encrypt new keys.

3. “Activation Tests” functions

This macro-class of functions lets you monitor devices con-

trolled by ECUs.

It contains all the functions you need to check a sticking

window, a bulb that won’t light or a rev counter that is not

working. The AXONE 4 provides hundreds of functions for

checking and testing electronic devices, and for making

safe and accurate diagnoses before you start on a repair.

4. “Particulate Filter Regeneration” functions

Blockages of the diesel particulate filter are one of the most

common problems encountered with modern diesels,

especially if they are driven in certain ways.

A blocked DPF can cause a range of problems. The AXONE

4 provides a special macro-class of functions that let you

diagnose the DPF system and activate the regeneration

process, making this type of repair extremely quick and

easy.

Brake Pad Replacement

An ever growing number of vehicle

manufacturers require the use of a

diagnostic tool in order to be able to

carry out brake pad replacement (front

or rear) - BMW, Mercedes, Mini, Volkswa-

gen just to mention a few.

AXONE 4 makes it quick and easy to wi-

den the brake calipers to then replace

the pads in complete safety.

Xenon Headlight Adjustment

Xenon headlight adjustment is an ope-

ration that is carried out not only by

mechanic workshops, but ever more

frequently is carried out by tyre specia-

lists, fast-fit centers and service areas.

The adjustment of this electronic

system is made possible via a posi-

tion sensor that must be adequa-

tely trimmed. AXONE 4 allows for the

headlight position adjustment and

relative test to be carried out with

extreme simplicity.

Injector Coding

TEXA’s remarkable experience in

carrying out adjustments and coding

operations required for component re-

placement is widely appreciated within

the automotive industry. One of the

most common interventions that the

technician is required to carry out is the

injector coding procedure. IDC4 not only

allows the technician to carry out the

procedure with the utmost ease, but it

also allows the electronic reading of the

injectors codes in the engine, to check

that the procedure has been carried out

correctly.

Particulate Filter Regeneration

An electronic fault or clogging of the

particulate filter can set faults in the

control unit and turn on the relative

warning light in the instrument panel.

Thanks to quick and easy diagnostic

procedures, the mechanic can force the

particulate filter regeneration.

The IDC4 software indicates, with clear

messages, how to properly and safely

carry out the operation; this is essen-

tial considering the high temperatures

reached by the catalyst.

RESETTING WARNING LIGHTS AFTER A SERVICETHE JOB HAS NEVER BEEN SO EASY!

Low battery voltage, the occurrence of a scheduled service

interval, thinning engine oil: these are just some of the faults

that can cause instrument panel warning lights to come on.

The appearance of warning lights is a common problem on

modern cars, and one that the technician needs to be able

to sort out quickly and efficiently.

Thanks to the new “Resetting” function in the IDC4 opera-

ting system, the AXONE 4 provides a series of simple, gui-

ded procedures (based on autodiagnostics or data sheets

giving step-by-step procedures) for resetting warning

lights directly, without having to diagnose the system’s con-

trol unit first.

Another utility lets you turn off the warning light and cancel

the error that caused it if a warning light has come on as the

result of a transient error logged in a control unit.

Resetting warning lights is particularly quick and easy

thanks to the new function that lets you select the reset

procedure without having to go through the entire list of

autodiagnosis selections first.

To switch off an airbag warning light, for example, you no

longer need to use the autodiagnostic software to access

the airbag system.

Simply select the “Reset airbag warning light” function and

IDC4 automatically finds the airbag ECU responsible for the

warning light.

Because adjustment and coding operations are relatively frequent, they must be quickly accessible. This is why IDC4 provides a list of the main functions available for each vehicle and guides the technician through an intuitive and easy to use menu.

DYNAMIC AUTODIAGNOSTICS A NEW DIMENSION IN DIAGNOSTICS FROM THE AXONE 4

TEXA was the first company in the world to introduce a

complete and innovative range of on-board tools for moni-

toring vehicles on the move.

We are talking, of course, of the OBD Log, which can de-

tect errors in components via EOBD protocol, and the even

more sophisticated OBD MATRIX, which can diagnose all

on-board electronic systems, including those that use

non-standard communication protocols, provided they are

found in the enormous IDC4 database (with the exception

of a small number of safety systems).

The philosophy behind the development of these products

follows (and in many ways anticipates) developments in

vehicle technology.

In particular, TEXA’s new range of on-board diagnostic de-

vices deals with two challenging but fundamental types of

problem:

1: problems associated with emission control standards,

Euro 5, and the growing complexity of electronic systems

on modern vehicles;

2: sporadic faults that only occur under certain conditions,

and cannot be diagnosed with the vehicle in the workshop.

Problems of these types are relatively new and therefore

require new solutions: TEXA’s OBD Log and OBD MATRIX

devices are not intended to take the place of conventional

diagnostic and auto-diagnostic tools, but to complement

them and extend the technical abilities of the modern vehi-

cle repair shop.

So why is the OBD MATRIX such an indispensable workshop

tool?

One example is sufficient to explain why. Deceleration and

braking energy recovery systems activate the alternator

only during deceleration; any malfunction in this system

cannot therefore be identified using a conventional dia-

gnostic system with the vehicle in the workshop.

And this is just one example: there are many more.

The risk is that problems of this type, because they cannot

be traced in the workshop, get classed as impossible or too

complicated to solve. This is indeed true if the right tools

are not to hand.

Luckily TEXA is at your side and ready to help you guaran-

tee an efficient, complete, and professional service to your

customers! Before TEXA introduced its on-board diagnostic

devices, vehicles had to be left in the workshop, causing

great inconvenience to the owner (long waits and see-

mingly unjustified delays); even then more often than not

no satisfactory solution could be found. All the mechanic

could do was proceed by trial and error.

Now, thanks to TEXA technology, you can fit an on-board

diagnostic device in a matter of minutes and return the

vehicle to your customer, who can carry on using it normal-

ly.

When the fault next occurs, whatever the conditions that

cause it, the OBD Log or OBD MATRIX will memorise all the

system parameters active at the time.

When the customer brings the vehicle back in, it only ta-

kes a few seconds to disconnect the device from the vehi-

cle and connect it to your workshop system. IDC4 software

will then present you with the cause of the sporadic fault so

that you can make a fail-proof repair immediately.

ALL TYPES OF MEASUREMENTALTERNATIVES TO AUTODIAGNOSTICS

The AXONE 4 can also act as a display unit for TEXA’s

conventional “satellite” diagnostic tools, connecting over a

convenient Bluetooth that does away with awkward trailing

wires.

UNIProbe and TwinProbe are both satellite devices for

taking analog and digital electrical measurements.

UNIProbe is the most complete and advanced of the two

devices and incorporates six different instruments in the

one unit:

1) a four channel oscilloscope

2) a battery probe

3) Tnet CAN network tester

4) a two channel generator of programmable wave form

signals

5) a multimeter incorporating an ohmmeter, voltmeter and

ammeter (with an external amps clamp)

6) a pressure gauge

TwinProbe is a simpler but equally effective tool that incor-

porates 3 different instruments in the same unit:

1) a two channel oscilloscope

2) a single channel, single wave form signal generator

3) a voltmeter and ammeter (with an external amps clamp)

Both units use TEXA’s revolutionary SIV (Signal Information

Viewing) system which not only displays the signal but, as

it takes measurements and acquires data, simultaneously

processes and analyses all available information to provide

real time evaluations and flag anomalies or inconsistencies

between the measured value and the correct value.

The Dual Control function lets you use two functions si-

multaneously. For example you can use the signal genera-

tor to drive a common rail diesel pump while you use the

oscilloscope’s analog channel to measure the output of the

fuel pressure sensor.

EXHAUST GAS ANALYSISPORTABLE, SELF-POWERED, HYBRID-READY TOOLS

For exhaust gas analysis applications, the AXONE 4 inter-

faces with GASBOX Autopower and Opabox Autopower,

TEXA’s robust and innovative gas analysis chambers for

petrol and diesel engine respectively.

Both devices are equipped with Bluetooth wireless techno-

logy. You are therefore free to walk around a vehicle while

you are testing it, and view acquired data on the AXONE 4’s

generous colour display, either in numeric form, or as colou-

red graphs that make test data instantly comprehensible.

GASBOX Autopower and Opabox Autopower both come

with a practical trolley for transport around the workshop.

To make their use even more dynamic, in addition to a con-

ventional mains power socket, GASBOX Autopower and

Opabox Autopower can also be used with Power Pack, the

practical, extractable, and separately rechargeable power

source.

This solution lets you keep one or more batteries always

fully charged and ready for use, so that you can carry on

working all day without enforced stoppages for recharging.

As soon as one Power Pack runs out, you can replace it with

a fully charged one in one quick and simple operation.

Thanks to Power Pack and Bluetooth wireless data com-

munications, TEXA exhaust gas analysis solutions eliminate

unwanted cables around the workshop.

TEXA has even developed a special function for performing

emission tests on the latest hybrid vehicles. A simple gas

analyser is not enough to analyse the exhaust gases of

these vehicles; an autodiagnostic tool is needed as well.

The problem lies in the fact that the internal combustion

engine only starts when the vehicle is moving at a certain

speed.

The AXONE 4 can run exhaust gas analysis tests with the

vehicle stationary in the workshop by starting the engine

via its autodiagnostic functions.
