Please join us in prayer for our Harvest Festival! Our annual Harvest Festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the bounty of God’s harvest as we welcome our community to St. Andrew’s for a day of shopping, food, music, and fun.

The Festival is a little later than last year, and October weather in central Ohio can be unpredictable. Please join us in praying for a beautiful fall day.

We also ask your prayers for the Harvest Festival planning team as they put the finishing touches on this year’s event; for volunteers to step up to fill all of the positions remaining open; that all those in attendance have a blessed and safe day; and that we will be effective witnesses of God’s amazing love and grace to those in attendance. — • —

Encouragement for your prayer time with GodThe rule of prayer becomes the rule of faith, which becomes the rule of life. “Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.” (Psalm 119:116) “Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.” (John 6:57) — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

— • — Welsh Hymn Sing Sunday, Oct. 20, in WestervilleThe Welsh Society of Central Ohio will hold its 71st annual Gymanfa Ganu (hymn sing) on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Central College Presbyterian Church, 970 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville. The chapel is the red brick building just south of the main sanctuary on Sunbury Road.

A Te Bach (small tea) will follow in Ballard Hall featuring Welsh tea cakes, small sandwiches, and other delights. Croeso! Welcome!

Prayer intercessors available at Sunday morning services Prayer teams are available to pray with and for parishioners during communion at the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday worship services. At 9 a.m. they are stationed to the left of the altar near the band equipment; at 11:15 a.m. they are stationed to the right of the altar, near the piano.

You may seek prayer for personal cares and concerns, and concerns for others, or offer thanksgivings for God’s blessings. The prayer team will also offer the sacrament of Holy Unction—the anointing with oil, laying on of hands and prayers for healing—upon request. All prayers are confidential.

Vestry candidate forms due Oct. 16; election Nov. 2 & 3On Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3, the Parish will vote to elect four members to serve three-year terms—from 2020 through 2022—on the St. Andrew’s Vestry. In addition, we’ll elect one person to serve through 2021, filling the unexpired term of the late Christie Carter, who died unexpectedly last December.

Vestry’s overall responsibilities include visioning, overseeing the direction of the Parish, and promoting our purpose and mission. They meet monthly on the third

Monday evening.

If you’re interested in serving our parish on Vestry please speak with a current Vestry member about what’s involved, or talk with Fr. Ron. Vestry names and contact information are listed on the Member Connection of our website, standrewspolaris.org, and on the wall just inside the Gathering Area to the right.

Vestry candidate forms are available at the Information Desk in the Narthex and can also be downloaded from the main page of our website,

standrewspolaris.org. Candidate forms must be completed and returned to the parish office no later than Wednesday, Oct. 16. This will allow the forms to be prepared and made available to the parish on Sunday, Oct. 20, which is two weeks prior to the election, as our bylaws require.

The first Sunday in November is also Pledge Sunday, when we’ll lift up to God our pledges to the 2020 General Fund. Watch for stewardship materials in mid-October.

Youth/Family fire pit gathering tonight St. Andrew’s youth will officially kick off their fall program of events and activities with their traditional campfire for youth and their families on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. We’ll gather around the fire pit on the church lawn for some crazy antics, sweet treats, and music! Feel free to bring some friends!

Missions and pilgrimages among topics of Sunday Forum this fall

— • —

Hope overcomes despair in GuatemalaParishioner Pat Schmitz shared about his experiences in Guatemala, where he served on a mission trip this past July, during the Sunday Forum last week. In his presentation, titled “Hope overcoming despair,” Pat talked about the work being done by Food for the Poor, the group he traveled with, in the Central American country where almost 80 percent of the population lives in poverty, with 40 percent living in extreme poverty on $1.50 or less each day.

Pat spoke of the power of compassion, and the joy of simply being present with people in a culture and circumstances far different from our own. “Despite conditions, the brightness of peoples’ eyes surpassed what I often see at home,” he said. “People were grateful we cared enough to travel 3,000 miles to provide some labor and lots of encouragement.”

We’ll be sharing a bit more in the coming weeks about the work that Food for the Poor is doing in Guatemala—where a child can be fed for six cents a day, an entire village can be fed for the cost of a cup of Starbucks coffee, and a home can be built for $7,500—and Pat’s challenge to us to take a mission trip of our own. In the meantime, if you have questions you may contact Pat at 614-204-7080 or [email protected], or go to https://champions.foodforthepoor.org/fundraiser/2245076 — • —

Brother Tim to speak during today’s ForumToday we welcome Brother Tim Luken, Abbot General of the Company of Jesus, who will speak during the Sunday Forum about monastic orders in the Anglican Church. The Company of Jesus is a modern “Third-Order” monastic community patterned after the concept established by St. Francis, who initially formed his First Order for men, Second Order for women, and Third Order for those in the world who had secular jobs and families, but wished to live according to a Rule of Life. As such, it welcomes both single and married men and women. — • —

Holy Land pilgrimage presentation Oct. 6If you want to know more about the Holy Land pilgrimage that Fr. Ron and 12 others went on this past summer, please join us for a slide presentation and insights from our pilgrims during the Sunday Forum from 10:15 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 6. — • —

Group brings women ‘Out of Darkness’Prompted by several members of St. Andrew’s, our parish’s Outreach Committee has been exploring how we might join the fight against human trafficking as a ministry. On Sept. 26 we took the first step when Marty Scott, our outreach ministries coordinator, attended the annual dinner of “Out of Darkness,” an anti-trafficking outreach and rescue organization in Columbus that provides immediate short-term crisis stabilization and hope through God, to transition exploited adult women into long-term recovery programs. Marty has invited Jami Gray, community development director of “Out of Darkness,” to share with us about the group’s mission during the Adult Forum on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 10:15 to 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Please come and learn more about the vital work “Out of Darkness” is doing, and how we might help. Any thoughts or questions about this endeavor may be directed to Marty at [email protected] or 614-284-0182.

St. Andrew’s serves at Common Ground Sept. 21Saturday, Sept. 21, was St. Andrew’s turn to serve at the Common Ground Free Store (CGFS) in Delaware. It was a beautiful day, and everyone enjoyed working and serving our brothers and sisters in Christ in fulfillment of the St. Andrew’s Outreach Mission: “To treat our neighbors with respect and humanity while responding to their needs, bringing them one step closer to Christ.”

St. Andrew’s Anglican Church always goes with a smile on their face to truly serve, and the store is very thankful.

Thanks to all of our food providers: Hope Beverick; the Bobay family; Shelly Casbarro; the Cherubini family; Sarah Fabian; Sheila Freeman; Pat Linder; the Muehlhausen family; Burt Otani; Frank and Marty Scott; Jon and Jacquie Wallace; Laura Waller; Pete and Terri Wilkinson; and Jim Worthington. With the donations of money, the Outreach Committee went shopping to buy items needed, along with chocolate milk and fruit cups. Others prepared or supplied the well-known St. Andrew’s Taco Salad, hot dogs, coney dogs, sloppy joes, chicken tetrazzini, macaroni and cheese, lemonade, and cookies.

Also, thank you to the following for volunteering: Judy Baird; Hope Beverick; Alan Carter; Larry and Patti Cooper; Jean Duncan; Eric Emery; Joe and Mary Ann Pate; Fr. Wil and Cindy Verhoff; and Pete Wilkinson.

Jesus is always in the house at CGFS. Although we had fewer volunteers than normal, we served more than 60 families with Jesus guiding us to do his work.

The next time St. Andrew’s serves at Common Ground will be Saturday, Nov. 16. Please mark your calendars now and plan to join in the fun, fellowship and service.

For more information, please contact Diane Bobay at 614-846-6921 or [email protected], or Marty Scott at 614-284-0182 or [email protected].
