‘ We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes wide open.’ Jawaharlal Nehru
To travel is often to fulfil a dream, whether it is spending precious time with extended family and marking an important milestone or embarking on experiences that change our understanding of both the world and our place within it.
Your holiday is your dream, a highpoint in a busy life that should inspire, delight and feed your soul. At Bailey Robinson our role is to listen and make that vision a reality because what matters to you, matters to us. Travel is our passion and we aspire to the golden age when people were treated as individuals and the world was waiting to be discovered.
Do you long to be profoundly humbled by the intelligent gaze of a mountain gorilla, to experience the grandeur of the Australian Outback, to watch the sunrise over the ancient Khmer temples of Angkor Wat or to rediscover simple pleasures on an achingly beautiful atoll where the rhythm of life is dictated only by the sun and the stars?
Wherever you long to visit and whatever your dreams entail, our team have first-hand knowledge you can trust to make that dream a reality – you can rely on us to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

It is no surprise that Montenegro on the Balkan Peninsula is the rising star of the Adriatic. Its natural beauty remains relatively untouched by tourism and commitment to its preservation is evident with nearly 10 percent of the country recognised as a protected area. With its many national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, pristine lakes and dramatic snow-capped mountains where historic cities lie hidden away waiting to be discovered, there is so much more to Montenegro than just its stunning coastline.
Exploring this small but remarkably diverse country is as
easy as it is rewarding. Drive through the olive groves and
vineyards of the narrow coastal plain where the warm,
Mediterranean climate gives way to cooler air as you wind
up into the mountainous interior. Take a hike or cycle
through forests of pine, beech and maple, alpine plateaus
and picnic by pristine lakes. Visit the Tara River Gorge and
raft the second deepest canyon in the world. Discover
a monastery built into the mountainside and wander
through the labyrinthine, cobbled streets of walled towns
where the architecture reveals the influence of the many
cultures that have made their mark on this extraordinary
country over the centuries.
Many Montenegrins feel that Lake Skadar is the heart
and soul of the country. With habitats including wetlands,
ancient chestnut forests and pastures rich with wild herbs
and orchids, Lake Skadar attracts a range of wildlife, including
migratory birds, almost without equal in Europe. This vast

freshwater lake, fringed with traditional fishing villages
and dotted with island monasteries and fortifications, also
supports the cultivation of some of the finest wine and
organic food in Montenegro.
The coastline offers wonderful opportunities to explore
gorgeous beaches, coves and enchanting towns. With 15th
century ramparts, Budva is one of the oldest settlements
on the Adriatic Coast and one of the most visited by
tourists, drawn by its beautiful beaches and reputation
as the ‘Montenegrin Miami’. Wreathed by steeply rising
mountains with groves of citrus, laurel, cypress and mimosa
along its shoreline, the Bay of Kotor is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and the town of Kotor is one of the best
preserved medieval towns on the Adriatic.
Base yourself on the Budvanska Riviera, one of the most
achingly picturesque parts of the coast and home to
the exceptional Aman Stefi Stefan; a UNESCO World
Heritage Site in its own right, the meticulous restoration
from 15th century island fortress to luxury hotel has been
well worth the wait. Alternatively, on the Bay of Kotor in
the glamourous town of Tivat alive with bars, restaurants
and stylish boutiques, the luxurious Regent Porto Montenegro is reminiscent of a grand Italian palazzo
and retains the essence of the region’s culture. It is also
worth noting that in early 2018 One & Only Portonovi will be opening at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor which
promises to become a popular base for exploring the
Adriatic and Dalmatian coastlines.

Australia is a land of extremes and vivid contrast where the majestic landscapes, boundless horizons and unique wildlife continue to inspire explorers, artists, adventurers and pioneers. From spectacular coastlines fringed with endless beaches, ancient rainforests and fertile plains, to the Red Centre and the dramatic transformation of the land from the dry to wet season in the north; the sheer scale and rugged nature of the Outback has meant that some of its most iconic landscapes remain relatively undiscovered.
A vast and ancient land in the remote north of Western Australia, the Kimberley is one of the world’s most precious and untouched wilderness areas. There is no better way to discover the secrets of this region than on a private 6 day helicopter safari, giving you the freedom and flexibility to decide what you would like to experience. Discuss each day’s plan with your pilot who knows the Kimberley intimately and will ensure that every day exceeds your expectations. Stay in remote luxury lodges, some only accessible by air, where comfort is prioritised alongside diverse wilderness adventures in places that privileged few have ever seen.
19
Begin your safari in Kununurra, a small town at the eastern
extremity of the region, before heading north to the coast.
Perched on sand dunes above the beach, the 20 stunning
private villas at Berkeley River Lodge provide amazing
views of the sea or the Berkeley River with its impressive
red rock gorges. Cruise the river, cool off with a dip in the
secluded waterholes of Berkeley Creek and spot native flora
and fauna including saltwater crocodiles, rock wallabies and
birds of prey. Fly to Mitchell Falls before ending the day
watching the sun set atop Mount Casuarina.
Fly west along the coastline to Kimberley Coastal Camp,
an exclusive, intimate and relaxed property. Considered to
be one of the best fishing regions in Australia, head out
early and have a go at catching the highly prized but elusive
barramundi among numerous other tropical species. Take
your catch ashore to a deserted island fringed by Boab trees
and have your guide cook it for you ‘bush style’. Marvel at
Wandjina and Gwion Gwion ancient rock art which gives
some insight into Aboriginal culture, the traditional owners
of this land. Drink in hand, put your feet up at the end of
each day accompanied only by the inimitable sound of the
Australian bush and a crackling fire.
Your final stop, El Questro, is at the heart of the Kimberley
and offers the freedom to really explore this last frontier.
From deep gorges and mountains to thermal springs,
mud and salt flats, rainforests and cascading waterfalls,
everything the Kimberley has to offer is found within
the property’s 700,000 acres. Hike through dry scrub
keeping an eye out for wildlife; discover shaded gorges
where tropical vegetation and palm trees thrive in a humid
microcosm created by hot springs. Take a boat along the

the changing light on the landscape and revel in the sheer

year old former State Buildings, and discover a vibrant city
where soft-sand beaches and scenic parks meet a thriving
metropolis of small bars, fabulous restaurants and curated
street art. For local culture, wander the nearby city of
Fremantle’s winding portside streets and Perth city centre’s
museum and gallery precinct. Walk in leafy Kings Park and
Botanic Gardens and visit nearby Rottnest Island.
Fabulous food and wine are part and parcel of life in Australia,
so head to the magnificent Margaret River Wine Region and
stay at the beautiful Cape Lodge. Positioned in the epicentre
of the region, its neighbours include the great wineries of
Vasse Felix, Moss Wood, Pierro and Cullen. Whether your
perfect day is a long lunch at a vineyard with award-winning
wines and delicious food, visiting art galleries and boutiques,
or canoeing and exploring the forests and pristine surf
beaches, Margaret River has so much to offer.

However, an adventure in the sparsely populated northwest
is an experience that truly gets to the heart of what defines
this vast country and its people. Ponder the extremes of
life down under and immerse yourself in an extraordinary
journey through dramatic landscapes made barely accessible
by the formidable nature of the environment. Glory in
magnificent night skies untouched by light pollution, explore
remote coastlines and discover the unique wildlife and

CHILETRIP REPORT
By Richard Laker, South America specialist.
Located at the bottom of South America, Chile extends 2,650 miles from southern Peru to the icy waters of Cape Horn and its diverse landscapes vary from the world’s driest desert, the Atacama, to the granite towers of Patagonia. On its southwestern coast tiny islands splinter into the Pacific, while 2,182 miles away lies its Polynesian satellite, Easter Island, one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world.
Chile requires the longest direct flight in British Airways’ schedule but the 14 hours are well worth it. Over the years I’ve visited Chile throughout the seasons, travelling through most of its 39 degrees of latitude, and the country never fails to charm and amaze me with its many scenic wonders, enhanced by the generosity and warmth of the Chilean people.

EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS | TRIP REPORT
Arrive in Santiago during our northern hemisphere winter
and you’ll find a delightful southern summer. An hour west
of this cosmopolitan city is the Pacific Ocean, an hour south
the winelands, and east takes you quickly to the Andes for
summer resorts or winter skiing.
Forsaking the pleasures of Santiago on this trip I headed
north with a two hour flight straight to the Atacama Desert,
one of the most unique and varied regions on the continent.
Just a short drive from the airport is the oasis town of San
Pedro de Atacama where Awasi Atacama stands out from
other hotels for its native architecture; a construction of
adobe, wood and stone with thatched roofs. Immediately on
arrival the stunning interior details and the warmth of the
welcome are striking. Each room is assigned a private guide
and vehicle and the menu of tours included makes a four
or five day stay essential. Within an hour I was exploring
‘downtown’ San Pedro with my guide. The Archaeological
Museum here contains the eerie remains of lost civilisations
including ancient mummies that have been preserved in the
dry desert air. The museum is impressive and a good starting
point for exploring the surrounding desert, supposedly the
world’s most arid region and renowned for its profound
beauty - and this is where the guides of Awasi truly excel.
23
Rising early at 4am when it’s close to freezing is not a
pleasant prospect in most parts of the world, however,
encouraged by my excellent guide Juanjo, the morning
felt full of promise. I’ve travelled with dozens of guides
over the years but Juanjo and his colleagues have a love
for the Atacama which is as contagious as it is inspiring.
We drove out of town through valleys and passes in the
dark to be rewarded with the view of geysers bursting
from the frozen earth at sunrise. The altiplano, or high
plain, is bare of trees and myriad colours of iron ore and
rust contrast in the glorious sunshine with the blues
and greens of the springs and the brilliant white of the
nearby salt flats. This is also home to the flocks of pink
flamingos that made their debut ‘ballet’ performance so
hilariously on Planet Earth.
Returning home to Awasi a Pisco Sour awaits – probably my
favourite cocktail to be had outside Cuba. The exquisite food
that follows is creatively prepared to feature flavours of the
desert such as Carob and the Chanar fruit. Most importantly,
the Awasi team are among the very best hosts anywhere in
the Americas and this wonderland is hard to leave.
Travelling south to Chilean Patagonia takes two flights
on the reliable Lan Chile. The aerial views flying over the
Andes, the lakes and rugged coastline, give an impressive
preview of what is to come in Patagonia. The south of Chile
remains one of the world’s great remaining wildernesses
and has always been a highlight for me. Torres del Paine
National Park is a five hour drive from Punta Arenas but
the stunning mountainscapes and genuine frontier territory
make the drive feel like a timeless film set.
24 EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS | TRIP REPORT
My destination is the exclusive Explora Patagonia. Perched
amid rushing waterfalls and the imperious Andes, the
location was visionary from the outset and the national
park rules have since excluded any other development
within the park, making a stay here feel like a privilege.
I was welcomed by one of the local guides who tailor fantastic
itineraries and activities including hiking, mountain biking,
kayaking and horse riding. We started the next morning with
a full day trek into this frontier wonderland. Condor and
flamingo, Grey eagle, puma and guanaco are just some of
the wildlife that lives in the formidable landscapes of Torres
del Paine. Part of the magic of the place however, is how few
other humans you will see. Early the next morning we rode
out to take in the vast, dramatic landscapes just as explorers
would have done centuries before, followed by kayaking
on a flat azure lake alongside creaking glaciers. This is a
truly incredible part of Chile and the closest you can get to
Antarctica without travelling the three days further south
across the Drake Passage.
For my final adventure in Patagonia, I took a Jeep with a driver
guide across the border to the Los Glaciars National Park
and El Chaltén in Argentina. This is great trekking territory;
the Fitz Roy Mountains, the thick forests, glacial parks and
lakes just beg to be explored. I may just have to return to
these extraordinary lands and spend a week traversing their
wonders in my own Jeep Chevrolet - it seems to me yet
another very good reason to return to Chile.
From £9,885 per person, for 14 nights including flights & transfers.

A ROAD TRIP THROUGH FRANCE
ITINERARY
By Sarah Woodthorpe, Europe specialist.

CE
EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEYS | ITINERARY
Discover the pleasure of a luxury road trip, exploring the cultural heritage, epicurean traditions and landscapes of Provence and the Cote d’Azur. Imagine meandering through the quiet country roads and nooks and crannies of rural France; lavender fields and medieval hilltop villages, distant snow-capped peaks, exquisite chateaux and ancient castles perched impossibly on rocky outcrops above winding rivers. Sit back with a bottle of local wine and saucisson, savouring the heady perfume of the inimitable Provencal countryside, basking in the golden light that has inspired artists for centuries and enjoy restaurants where the simplest foods are elevated to culinary masterpieces.
Begin your adventure in the boutique Chateau de Mercues,
a fairy tale castle above the Lot Valley and Cahors Vineyards.
This 13th century chateau is a must for wine lovers and
one of the few ‘Cru hotels’ where you can take part in the
winemaking process. Located on a loop of the River Lot,
just 10 minutes away, is the beautiful medieval town of
Cahors with its Romanesque cathedral, cloister, renowned
gardens and fabulous market. The Pont Valentre, a medieval
fortified bridge and UNESCO World Heritage Site, spans
the river with three extraordinary 14th-century towers. For
something extra special, take off from the chateau gardens
by helicopter and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the area, and
perhaps even work out the route to your next destination.
Continue the wine and food theme at Le Domaine de Verchant, a 16th century country house outside of
Montpellier with its own vineyard, magnificent landscaped
grounds and a gloriously decadent spa. There is plenty to
do and see nearby including gorgeous beaches ideal for lazy
days, long walks and water sports. Visit the Camargue, a
timeless wetland with silver salt pans and waterlogged rice
paddies that is home to the region’s most emblematic bird,
the pink flamingo. The area is historically famous for its white
horses, an ancient breed renowned for their hardiness and
intelligence, so saddle up or head out on a 4x4 safari to see
the flamingos and visit the Salin sea salt ponds.
27
Next stop is the charming Crillon Le Brave – the ideal
base from which to explore local markets, antique shops,
villages and artists’ studios. Learn the mysteries of truffle
hunting on an exciting three-day programme which
includes wine tasting at one of Chateauneuf-du-Pape’s
finest estates and a cooking demonstration with the chef.
Recover in the spa before heading off on a restorative
cycling route through the surrounding countryside.
End your French road trip on a high at the chic and private
La Reserve Ramatuelle, a contemporary hidden gem
where no detail has been overlooked. Try some morning
yoga or Nordic walking with a guide before heading to
the beautiful beaches of the Cote d’Azur and the glitz of
St Tropez for some people watching. Visit the local town
of Ramatuelle, a particularly vibrant place with regular
jazz and classical music festivals, and explore its quaint
cobbled streets and inlets where, rumour has it, many
celebrities have made their home. Have lunch at La Forge,
a classic French restaurant complete with requisite red
checked tablecloths and a good spot to see if the rumours
are true.
For those overwhelmed with the need for some activity
after all the delicious food and wine, head to the Gorge
du Verdon National Park. Considered to be Europe’s most
beautiful river canyon, the turquoise-green river has
carved a dramatic path through the limestone creating an
ideal backdrop for cyclists, hikers, paragliders and lovers
of all water sports.
All road trips must come to an end but perhaps there is
time for just one more glass of wine on the way to Nice
airport - a little pate de foie gras or soupe de poisson en
route? Refreshed and full of joie de vivre, head for home.
Stay 10 nights from £2,295 per person, B&B including flights & car hire.

RWANDAVisiting the relatives in
‘ WE ARE VERY CLOSE’ our guide whispered as we made our way through the thick jungle vegetation – low voices are required when creeping up on a group of mountain gorillas, however, knowledge of sequencing a genome is not required to establish the similarity between us and our hirsute cousins; when you lock eyes with our evolutionary relatives, there is a profound sense of recognition and empathy.
31
Under the gaze of a huge silverback I shivered with a
surreal sense of collusion as his shrewd ‘knowing’ eyes
conveyed the familiar pained look of the trials of parenting;
a particularly active baby seemed intent on disturbing the
rest of the group with his high jinx, or perhaps it was just
from the low of a post sugar high from munching on too
much bamboo. In a pre-trek briefing we had been told not
to stare but that is easier said than done when a sizable
male, who dwarfs the others, curiously looks at you with
soft brown eyes, in search of answers to his dilemma.
Standing there, feeling like David Attenborough, I was
reminded of Christmas at my parents; dad had a bit of a
snooze, the teenagers played and mum scurried around
trying to keep a semblance of order. As if knowing that
our allotted hour with them was up, the silverback awoke,
grumbled a summons to the group and headed off into the
forest. I am not sure what I expected, but to be accepted
into a group of gorillas, to watch, smell, hear and laugh with
them is awe-inspiring and emotional; a humbling testament
to the inherent commonality that links our species.
Emerging from its dark past, Rwanda has much to
offer and has become one of the safest and most forward
thinking countries in Africa. Along with Uganda and the
Democratic Republic of Congo, it is the only place that you
can see these incomprehensively rare creatures, and it was
the country’s Parc National des Volcans that Dian Fossey
lived, worked and wrote her famous book Gorillas in the
Mist. There are less than 900 mountain gorillas left in the
wild but far from being a conservation tragedy, the gorillas
are making a comeback and are the only primate species
anywhere in the world which is increasing in number; ten
groups can be seen on the park’s lush emerald-green slopes.
With permits priced at $750 per person, and limited to 80
per day, the effect of low impact tourism promotes their
survival through conservation. To put that in perspective,
a visit to see gorillas is to become part of an elite club of
29,000 privileged people per year – the Tate Modern has
seen that amount of visitors in one day.
With flights operating via Nairobi in Kenya, an East Africa
safari makes for a good combination with gorilla trekking,
although Rwanda is a country more than worthy of exploring
in its own right. The reintroduction of rhino and lion to
Akagera National Park makes it a genuinely good prospect
for a safari, with its plains, marshes and papyrus swamps
reminiscent of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Down in
the south, Nyungwe Forest National Park is like a scene from
a fairy tale book and covers one of the oldest rain forests in
Africa. The park is great for nature lovers with hiking and
tracking habituated chimpanzees some of its highlights.
A common misconception is that Rwanda does not offer
the pampering high standards of its African counterparts
but this is set to change in June this year when the luxury
bar will be raised. Elevated above the forest floor in the
amphitheatre of an eroded volcano cone, Bisate Lodge is
set to become an exclusive favourite of Bailey Robinson.
Located close to the Park Headquarters for Park National
des Volcans, the lodge has six private forest villas with views
over the surrounding volcanic peaks into the National Park
beyond. The lodge’s spherical thatched structures echo
the thousands of hills that dot the Rwandan landscape

Synonymous with the postcard perfect idyll, the Maldives is a popular choice for post-wedding destress. Having invented the concept of barefoot luxury 25 years ago with Soneva Fushi, Soneva’s latest offering is the biggest reinvention of the notion of island luxury the Maldives has seen in years.
Unlike other properties in the Maldives which are mostly
one island, one resort, Soneva Jani is made up of five
little islets in the Noonu Atoll, 35 minutes by seaplane
from Male. Arranged around a meandering walkway
connected to the main island are 24 water villas, with a
private lagoon and views of the Indian Ocean serving as a
dramatic backdrop to what is an eco-friendly, low-density
resort, perfect for honeymoons.
Inside each enormous villa, palettes of white punctuated
by shades of green compliment the soft white sand and
turquoise lagoon views. Built from sustainable sand-blasted
pine and lined with teak, the environmentally friendly design
of the villas offer a natural and sophisticated style with
luxuries including private pools, a push-button retractable
ceiling over the master bedroom for stargazing, overwater
basket swings, and some even have waterslides for direct
access to the sparkling lagoon.
Additionally, all villas come with their own small bar/
drinks room with private wine cellar and signature ‘Mr
Friday’ butler service.
There is a central clubhouse home to a spa whose therapists
come from the Himalayas, a yoga studio, boutiques as well
as various spots to eat, drink and daydream. Cuisine is as
varied as the eating establishments - wood-fired ovens
churn out delicious pizzas and freshly caught seafood is
grilled at live cooking stations. By night there are numerous
dining options to round off a perfect day: So Engaging
with its mystery menu at the chef’s table, So Starstruck,
dining under the stars on the observatory’s deck and So
Imaginative, culinary chemistry in the tasting room.
Diving, snorkelling and watersports are naturally excellent
ways to pass your time, while daily jaunts include delights
such as a ‘Robinson Crusoe’ picnic on a deserted island,
private dolphin cruises and cookery classes. The silent
overwater cinema, with bluetooth headphones so as not
to disturb the resident nesting wildlife, rounds off days
spent in paradise.
Stay 7 nights from £8,995 per person, B&B including flights & transfers.
SRI LANKA
For a small country, Sri Lanka packs in a lot with jungles, temples,
wildlife and beaches all waiting to be discovered. Cycle through
emerald green paddy fields, spot elephants bathing in the national
parks or stroll around little fishing villages for a taste of something
truly authentic before flying direct to the Maldives.

‘And then there was Song Saa…’ Uttered in reverential tones, laden with an almost disbelieving sense of wonderment and contentment, hearing these words never fails to evoke a shared vision of paradise. Song Saa means ‘sweetheart’ in Khmer and it could not be more apt for this achingly beautiful jewel in the warm, sapphire waters of the Gulf of Thailand.
Dictated only by the sun and the stars, the rhythm of
life here is wonderfully indolent; barefoot luxury meets
indulgent and harmonious simplicity. In cahoots with the
ever obliging staff, you can toast your blessed state of bliss
wherever the inspiration takes you but cocktail hour is
great fun and dinner a real event, potentially taking place
anywhere including, rather surprisingly, in the swimming
pool. The food is exceptional but the pizzas have acquired
legendary status and as such deserve a special mention;
wafer thin and crispy with any topping of your choice -
simply irresistible. Equally extraordinary and utterly surreal
is the night spent stargazing and swimming in waters alive
with bioluminescence, an experience potentially elevated
to the realms of ethereal with underwater meditation.
The islands here remain as Gaia intended with pristine
white beaches, virgin rainforest and fringing coral reefs
teeming with sea life. Dive or snorkel the surrounding
archipelago and pootle about the beautiful coves
before stopping for a picnic lunch on a desert island.
Just an hour from the Cambodian mainland, this is the
archetypal fantasy of romantic, tropical island utopia; the
consummate honeymoon destination.

SPECIAL OCCASIONS | HONEYMOONS
Simplicity meets indulgence at &Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge, set on a private island just off the coast of Zanzibar offering both peace and romance in abundance.
Belying the fact that past guests include royalty,
Hollywood stars and Silicon Valley tycoons, this little resort
has 10 simple but elegant Zanzibari bandas designed
around a barefoot luxury philosophy, the antidote to
the shiny bells-and-whistles resorts of its Indian Ocean
neighbours. Heavenly exclusivity is afforded to no more
than 20 privileged guests at any time, although with
accommodation tucked away in a Casuarina pine forest,
the only life you might see are the cooing wild doves and
Suni deer who share the island’s perfection with you.
Following a 90 minute drive from Stone Town, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site full of mystery and legend, you arrive
at a small beach where fishermen set off on their dhows
as they have for centuries. A short boat ride takes you
to Mnemba Island where on disembarking, shoes are
discarded - for the entirety of your stay - to wade through
shallow, warm water to the lodge. There is no red carpet
here, just silky white sand - even the infectiously happy
staff who come to greet you are barefoot.
Shown to your organic banda, thatched from pine
tree branches and palm matting with handmade shell
chandeliers, you are issued with a straw beach bag, straw
hat and sarong, the island’s unofficial uniform. Large,
airy and open plan, each banda is situated on a secluded
stretch of shaded beachfront with white-cushioned
daybeds on the terrace perfect for afternoon siestas,
and a beach sala with sunbeds for spending lazy hours
watching dhows drift across the horizon.
Mnemba is all about the beach and the sea. Relaxation
is key and the tempo of the day is yours to choose; the
breeze, the view, the fresh fruit, fish and lobster arriving
daily by boat, conspire to remind you that less really
can be more. With private massages and dinners on the
beach, it is easy to cocoon yourself, venturing out only
to explore renowned dive sites and snorkel with green
turtles on the spectacular coral reef, although kayaking,
fishing and windsurfing are offered should you resist the
temptation to just do nothing.
Stay 7 nights from £8,215 per person, fully inclusive including flights & transfers.

The location of Jade Mountain is unsurpassed, rising

indigenous materials, the result is a remarkable structure
that complements the surroundings; each is unique,

From the moment the sun rises over the Kalahari’s brush covered sand dunes, the landscape becomes an everchanging canvas of spectacular colour and contrast. With horizons punctuated by the silhouettes of giraffe and distant mountains, this extraordinary environment is home to animals not easily found elsewhere: the huge black-maned Kalahari lion, cheetah, roan and sable antelope, wild dog, aardvark, aardwolf and the elusive pangolin to name a few.

In a separate location to Motse, Tarkuni lies between

The villa comes complete with private rangers and trackers
who lead safaris in Land Rovers, on horseback or even on
foot so that you can get up close to nature. You dictate
the order of your day but it is almost impossible not to
be inspired by the guides and trackers whose enthusiasm
and passion is contagious. The area is malaria free and
welcomes children of all ages who will love mornings
spent interacting with the resident habituated meerkats,
afternoons in the Junior Ranger programme making
plaster casts of animal footprints, and learning about the
galaxies around the camp fire in the evenings.
Tarkuni’s five spacious suites each have their own sleep-
