AVS MICROBIOLOGY TODAY

ORGIN OF OUR DEPARTMENT

The Department of Microbiology, AVS college of arts and science

was started during the academic year 1995, with a vision of

establishing world class Science and Technology base with a view

to provide knowledge, skills and services in Microbiology with

internationally competitive systems

The Department is well equipped with all essential research

instruments. The students of this department have so far

submitted around 93 researches at National and International

level seminars and conferences under the valid guidance of

faculties. The department has placed student in various

Government, National and International institutes like

IISC,JNCASR etc.,

PRINCIPAL MESSAGE

Research involving microbiology has been strong in areas of basic

molecular mechanisms and infectious diseases for many decades. The

recent discovery relating to the previously unimaginable extent of

microbial diversity to human health. As we enter the 21sd century microbes

ones again is at centre stage as we recognize the eminent role that

microbes play in the shaping of our planet. Microbes make up the majority

of the world’s biomass, they are number and diversity greatly suppress

those all other organisms.

The study and utilization of this virtually unexplored biological

reservoir will help microbiologist for decades to come. Our institution plan

accordingly and as if looks towards the future make microbial ecology and

integral part of its plan for growth.

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

OBJECTIVES OF OUR DEPARTMENT

To examine the ecological and practical roles of microbes in

food and water concerned with the relationships between

microbes and crops, with an emphasis on improving yields

and combating plant diseases.

To concerned with the uses of microbes to produce or

harvest large quantities of substances such as beer,

vitamins, amino acids, drugs, and enzymes

To monitor and control the spread of diseases in

communities

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Students are motivated to do the simple research works

by using non expensive materials on “EVALUATION OF

MUSHROOM PRODUCTION AND THEIR BIOACTIVE

POTENTIAL”

ORGANIC FARMING

FLORICULTURE TECHNIQUES

Department Day 2013

BLOOD BANKING

Workshop on “Hands On Training On

Blood Collection” is given to UG students

and a seminar on Blood Donation was

given by Mr. Rameshan ,Lab Technician ,

Govt Hospital ,Attur

SUMMER COURSE

Short Term Summer Course “Water

Quality Analysis” is conducted for the

students to develop the innovative

knowledge.

TREE PLANTATION

STUDENTS OF MICROBIOLOGY WE HAVE PLANTED AROUND 90 TREES IN AND

OUTSIDE THE CAMPUS

Alcohol and Tobacco Awareness to Students

of Tamil Mandrum Club at AVS College of

Arts and science

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Final year B.Sc students visited the near by

village to give the general awareness on

Health Cleanliness and sanitary practices

for the rural people and interacted with

them

Extension Activities

Smoking awareness to NSS & NCC Students

of AVS College of Arts and Science (2011),

India.

SCIENCE EXHIBITION

The students of Microbiology were actively participating

in the science Exhibition to create an innovative

awareness about their core subjects

Events of the Department

The Department has organized National level Seminar on “An

Eminent Role Of Microbes In Day Today Life” by the sponsor

offered by TNSCST
