AVHS Bicycles, Skateboard, Scooters & Hoverboards Policy Guiding Philosophy For reasons related to the safety and security of the Arroyo Valley High School campus, skateboarding of any kind is not permitted on campus at any time. Students bringing skateboards on campus during the school day or to school sponsored events before, during or after school hours risk the board being confiscated and kept in the Vice Principals Office. Tenets: Respecting safety will: • Minimize disruptions to the learning environment • Promote a life skill of safety and respect Roles and Responsibilities Students bringing skateboards onto campus have one choice: 1. Hoverboards are not allowed on campus at any time. 2. Upon arriving on school grounds, lock students will lock their Bicycle / Scooter in the approved Bicycle / Skateboard rack; located in front of the school. --- No exceptions! 3. Students who do not lock their skateboard in the approved bicycle / skateboard rack at the front of the school must at all times carry the item while on campus. 4. DO NOT ride your bicycle, skateboard, or scooter anywhere on campus. Any student caught riding their bicycle, skateboard, or scooter anywhere on campus at any time will have the item confiscated and kept in the office until a parent comes to retrieve it. Consequences 1st Offense: Board will be confiscated by school administration and only returned to the student at the end of the school day or at the end of the school event at the Vice Principals Office. Appropriate school disciplinary action(s) will be imposed to include noting the offense in the students Aeries counseling Portal. 2ns Offense: Board will be confiscated by school administration and only returned to the student’s parent or guardian at the end of the day at the Vice Principals Office. . Appropriate school disciplinary action(s) will be imposed to include noting the offense in the students Aeries counseling Portal. 3+ Offenses: Disciplinary actions will be escalated in accordance with the violation. Including but not limited to returning the board only at the end of the academic semester to the student’s parent or guardian. Please note per SBCUSD policy (Parent/ Student Handbook) - Skateboards and pose a safety hazard to both the student and other students. Scooters can be distracting to the educational process and may be confiscated by school personnel.
