Dear Parent / Carer, As we come to the end of the year, I have taken the time to reflect on what we have achieved and
what we still have to do. We have had a HMI visit which has highlighted we are doing the right
things to move the school forward. However, I am under no illusions that we still have work
ahead of us. Myself and the staff are committed to that work. We have a clear focus on
improving teaching and learning, in order to ensure that your children can release their greatness.
We successfully hosted our first teach meet on the 17th of July, a teach meet is an informal
meeting for teachers and those who work in education, to share good practice. We had over 25
stalls at the teach meet, including stalls from providers such as the BBC, who talked about the
power of teachers and also the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), who talked about
making links with the curriculum and industry. Also hosting stalls, were some of our own
excellent teachers, alongside colleagues from a number of other different schools.
We have had some real positives this year, our school productions of Annie and Sparkleshark,
Prestwich has talent, Sports Day, our fantastic Celebration Evenings, as well as fund raising for a
number of charities close to our pupils hearts. We have great plans for next year, this will start off
with us being involved in the Prestwich Arts festival, we also have plans to involve ourselves more
within the community and to run even more trips and educational events.
During the last year, we have had over 216 pupils receive 302 Pride of Prestwich awards, which
highlights the positivity and culture of praise in the school. I look forward to seeing more pupils at
the Pride of Prestwich events in the future.

I have had the privilege to interview some of the amazing pupils in year 10, who will be the senior
prefects of 2018/19. I know they will do us proud, as they are an inspirational group of young
people and I look forward to working with them closely, over the next year.
On a more sombre note, this year sees some staff leave us and we wish them all the best for the
future. Those leaving at the end of the Summer are Miss N Smith (Deputy Headteacher), Mr R
Wilkes (Head of Maths), Mr M McLear (Assistant Head of Maths), Mrs C Cowan (Assistant Head
of Science), Mr A Warburton (Teacher of Modern Languages), Mr V Dutton (Teacher of
Technology) and Mrs H Hinchliffe (Senior Science Technician), we will miss them greatly.
Although goodbyes are sad, they do allow for new opportunities and we look forward to
welcoming some great new staff to the Prestwich family.
I hope you all have a well-deserved rest and we look forward to welcoming you all back in
September.
Take care
Miss R Evans
Headteacher

Sri Lankan Pen Friends
7gh1 are embarking on an exciting project in English. They are taking part in a pen pal exchange
with Year 7 Sri Lankan students from a school in Columbo, which is a great opportunity for them
to learn about everyday life and culture in another country. Pupils in 7gh1 hosted a bake sale on
Friday 4th May, where they raised over £114 selling homemade cakes and biscuits, to pay for
stationary and gifts to send with their letters. 'Yubowan' Sri Lanka!

Bolton Book Award Trip
On Wednesday 4th July eleven Bookworm's book club members attended the Bolton Children's
Fiction Awards ceremony at Bolton School. They met several authors and took part in various
workshops, culminating in the award ceremony for the winner of this year’s prize.
Please encourage your children to continue
reading over the Summer.

Parent View
We would like to invite you to take part in an online survey called ‘Parent View’. Parent View is
one of the ways that OFSTED and our school use, to tell us what you think about your child’s
school experience. Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, from
the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and behaviour. It’s an opportunity to share your
thoughts about the many outstanding and positive ways in which Prestwich Arts College serves
you and your children. It is also part of our ongoing commitment to improving the standard of
education that we provide.
What you need to do
1: Type in the following link https://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk
2: Click on the ‘Give us your views tab’
3: Press ‘register now’ or ‘login’ if already registered and
follow the instructions from there
It should only take five minutes and we really do
value your feedback.
Parents Contact Details
Please would you ensure that we have your up to date contact details on our records. If, at
any time you change your address or indeed your contact number, please make it a priority to
inform us. Then we are able to make contact with you, in the event of an emergency, this
contact information is vital. Thank you.
Our School website is : www.prestwich.bury.sch.uk
There you will find lots of information about the school that is regularly
updated. Calendars, exam timetables, information about faculties, what
is taught, guidance for students (and parents) and stop press information.
Please make the school web site one of your regular stops on the internet.
CARS on HEYS Road
Please can we ask that parents and carers use extreme caution when dropping off or
collecting children outside the school. We are very concerned that some parents just stop in
the middle of the road and let their children cross, regardless of any other vehicles which may
be on the road. We have also nearly had accidents caused by parents attempting to turn their
car around in the middle of the road. Please do not stop your car immediately outside the
school, instead please make arrangements to drop or collect your child somewhere further
away and let them walk some of the way instead.
Please also be mindful of our neighbours, as we do receive a number of calls from local residents
about vehicles blocking their driveways.
Please can we respectfully ask you to consider the consequences of your driving / parking when
outside of this school, our students safety must come first. Thank you.

UNIFORM
Please help us by ensuring that your child is wearing the correct school uniform. This consists of black blazer with house badge, a pale blue shirt and a tie (the blazer and shirt can be bought anywhere, whilst the badge and tie are only available from school). These must be worn with black skirt or black trousers and plain black leather shoes, please note that trainers or trainer
‘type’ footwear is not allowed. Black V-neck jumpers may also be worn as an option, these can be bought from anywhere. External winter coats must be plain and not of the ‘camouflage’ style.
Please refer to your child's organiser, the school’s website or ask at the school office for a full list of requirements. Your child may be sent home if they are not wearing the correct
uniform, so if you are unsure about anything, please ring the school before you buy.
