Welcome to the 10th Autumn/Winter Of Course We Can programme
It is a celebratory year for Active Impact. We have become a charity and marked a decade of creating inclusive opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to do together.
We are delighted to be presenting an Autumn/Winter programme full of events despite the recent pandemic forcing some changes! Our fantastic partner providers have worked tirelessly to bring you inclusive Of Course We Can activities throughout the Autumn/Winter season. This year, some of the Of Course We Can events will be taking place online; other events will be taking place face to face, socially distanced and in small groups (see pages 3 and 4 for more details).
Everyone is welcome at an Of Course We Can event including those who have learning difficulties/disabilities, autism or physical/sensory impairments. If you need lots of help to take part in a face to face event, we’ll do everything we can to support you. This may mean assistance with lifting, toilets, communication or access. Please let the event provider know your specific requirements when you book so they can arrange to meet them before the event begins.
If there is an event you would like to go on but the cost is more than you can afford, please talk to us or the event provider as we don’t want the charges to exclude anyone.
For now, browse the activities on offer and choose your favourite Of Course We Can!

Face to Face Of Course We Can events
Face to face events will only go ahead in line with the government guidance in relation to COVID-19. As government guidance changes events may have to be cancelled or adapted to comply with regulations at that time e.g. residentials may have to offer daily activities
or events may have to work with reduced group numbers.

Booking a place on an Of Course We Can event

Who can attend an Of Course We Can event? • Children and young people aged between 5 and 25 living in Gloucestershire,
including those who have learning difficulties/disabilities, autism or physical/sensory impairments. See individual events for age groups.
• Whilst not every event will be suitable for every young person, we try to offer something for everyone. Please contact the event provider to discuss suitability. If there is an activity you would like to see included in the programme that is currently missing, please contact Active Impact.
• Of Course We Can events are not ‘daycare’. Please only book places for children and young people who are keen to take part.
• Events are planned on the basis that everyone will go to all of the sessions rather than going for single days, unless otherwise indicated.
Telling us what participants need from us
Please chat with the event provider as soon as possible so that they can ensure that each person will be safe, welcome and able to take part. The event providers really want to understand everyone’s individual requirements so that they can meet their needs properly. If your young person needs extra individual support, the event provider may need time to organise this, so contact them as soon as you can.
Personal budget or Direct Payments Disabled children and young people can use a Personal Budget or Direct Payment to pay to come on an event. This must have been agreed, as part of their plan, with their lead professional /social worker. Information about referring children and young people is on our website: www.activeimpact.org.uk/guidance-for-referrers Other families with a disabled child/ young person should apply directly to the event provider by phone or email.
Sharing of participant details Participant details are shared with Active Impact and Gloucestershire County Council so that they can see who benefits from the Council’s investment. This information may also be shared with other Of Course We Can providers to ensure that events can be planned appropriately. If you do not wish your information to be shared in this way, please notify the event provider.
When is my payment due? Payment is due as soon as a place is offered and is non-refundable if your child has to withdraw. Places are not confirmed until payment is received. You will need to pay the full amount to the organisation running your event. The name and details of the contact person for each event provider is given at the bottom of each individual event page in this brochure.
Meeting the costs of an event We do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone who wishes to attend an event so, if you are not paying from a Personal Budget or Direct Payment and the cost would make it impossible to go on your desired event, please discuss this with us or the event provider.
Meeting specific requirements Event providers seek to welcome all young people including those needing 1:1 or 2:1 support to participate in their events. If this support is required, please be aware that the event provider will need time to organise this and there will be additional costs. These may be met through the participant’s Personal Budget or, if this is not an option, we are in touch with local charities who may be able to help. Additional costs for this kind of support vary and are usually between £15 - £25 per hour depending on the event, the provider and the young person’s individual requirements. Please be prepared to discuss this with the event provider when you contact them to book a place.
