Season Launch Concert:Steven Osborne (Piano)7.30pm. 20 October. DEBUSSY d’un cahier d'esquissesDEBUSSY Images Book 1DEBUSSY Children’s CornerDEBUSSY EstampesMUSSORGSKY Pictures at an Exhibition

“Osborne’s virtuosity is beyond doubt, and the clarity he brings to the music is remarkable.” Classical Source

The award-winning pianist, Steven Osborne, is known for his dynamism and imaginative interpreta-tions, as much as his technical mastery. This is a programme of immense colour and atmosphere – a resplendent vehicle to inspire the launch of our season.

English Touring Opera:J.S.Bach St. John Passion7.30pm. 4 December. Lancaster Priory.

Jonathan Peter Kenny (Conductor)James Conway (Director)

Deeply personal, inspiring and questioning in equal parts, Bach’s St John Passion is without doubt one of the most powerful expressions of Western culture.

In ravishing music, it asks some of the most basic questions about our life, purpose and place in this world. The events leading to the crucifixion of Jesus are realised in music of great emotional immediacy – the drama moving from moments of intimate reflection to awe-inspiring choruses for hundreds of voices, featuring new English translations of the chorales from 12 acclaimed thinkers of different faiths and backgrounds.

Gould Piano Trio7.30pm. 27 October. The Goulds will chase the phantoms of Beethoven’s ‘Ghost’ and ignite the romantic fires of the Saint-Saens trio. The centrepiece is a recently commissioned work by violist/ composer, Simon Rowland Jones – a beautiful sonorous work written for the trio themselves.

Endellion String Quartet7.30pm. 17 November. This concert opens with one of Haydn’s mature quartets - imaginative, playful, warm-hearted and perfectly-crafted masterpieces – and ends with one of Beethoven’s late quartets, which are regarded as being on a par with Shakespeare and Michelangelo’s works for their powerful profundity and astonishing creativity.

Lost Dog: Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) 8pm. 18 October. 75mins. 14yrs+ Post Show Discussion.

Combining theatre, comedy and movement, this is a journey through the story of the creation of everything.

A show which brings you the highlights of this well known but often forgotten story beginning with Lucifer’s rebellion and ending with Adam and Eve’s expulsion from the garden of Eden. A single man plays all the characters, creates all the scenes and, despite his best efforts, falls a little short of perfec-tion.

A show for anyone who has created anything (child, garden, paper aeroplane) and then watched it spiral out of control.

Brilliant dance theatre - The List «««««Divine - The Independent «««««Achieves great things - The Observer «««««

Luke Wright: What I Learned from Johnny Bevan 8pm. 27 October. 60mins. 14yrs+

Multiple award winning show including a “Fringe First Award for new writing” & “The Stage Award for acting excellence”

A story of shattered friendship, class ceilings, and the hollow reality of the New Labour dream.

At university the whip-smart, mercurial Johnny Bevan saves Nick, smashing his comfortable, middle class bubble and firing him up about politics, music and literature. Twenty years later, as their youthful dreams disintegrate with the social justice they hoped for, can Nick save Johnny from himself?

Ockham’s Razor: Tipping Point8pm Tuesday 1 - Thursday 3 November & 2pm Wednesday 2 November only. 60mins. 6yrs+

Five performers enclosed within the circle of the stage, transform simple metal poles into a rich landscape of images. Together they face a series of challenges as poles are balanced on fingertips, swung, lashed, climbed up and clung to, the action veering from catastrophe to mastery. Within this teetering world they must decide whether to rail against the chaos or ride it out, allowing life to tilt towards the tipping point. «««« The Guardian

Reckless Sleepers: Negative Space8pm. Wednesday 16 November & Thursday 17 November. Post Show Discussion on the 16th only. 12yrs+

From a blank architectural canvas, something fantastical emerges. It's a love story. It's a slapstick comedy. It's slasher, action, melodrama...and not a single word is spoken. Soon different possible stories are spiralling around, hurtling towards an ending.

Sue MacLaine: Can I Start Again Please8pm. Wednesday 23 November. 60mins 16yrs+

A meditative and moving performance about our cognitive capacity to process traumatic experience and the ability of language to represent it. It examines the power of language, as well as its failings. Why does language conceal as much as it reveals? Parallel narratives are told in the parallel languages of spoken English and British Sign Language. «««« The Guardian

Igor and Moreno: Idiot Syncrasy8pm. Wednesday 30 November. 60mins. 8yrs+

We started with wanting to change the world with a performance. We felt like idiots.

Then we danced a lot. We jumped. We called on the folk traditions of Sardinia and the Basque Country. We sang. We jumped some more. We committed.

Now we promise to stick together. We promise to persevere. We promise to do our best. «««« The Guardian
