Part  1  –  Monthly  Activity  Log   September 2015 I joined the university orientation and there was airport pickup arrangement for students arriving from London Heathrow (or Birmingham) on 29 September. I arrived London Heathrow in the morning that day and took the shuttle bus by Warwick. During the orientation, there were entertainment schedule, early enrolment, and opportunity to make friends. Accommodation and meals were also offered. October 2015 The term started on 5 October. Instructions on module registration were given before the term and the timetable could be checked online. It was not difficult to add/drop the modules at the undergraduate office at WBS (Warwick Business School) if you wish to. Add-drop period ended in week 3 so it would be better to check the course equivalence for credit transfer with ARRO earlier. Lectures of every module were held once a week, and some modules also held seminars (similar to tutorial class in HKUST). Attendence for seminars were recorded. November 2015 There was not much coursework for the modules I took and I spared time to travel around in the UK and other European countries. December 2015 The term ended on 12 December. The modules I took were only assessed by presentation and final essay and there were no tests or exams. I started to work on my assessments. I moved out of Warwick before the end of the term and started travelling around.

Part  2  –  General  Exchange  Information   Visa Procedures Visa application is not required for Hong Kong passport holders if your stay is less than 6 months. However, you have to present a confirmation letter from Warwick as you pass through the immigration upon arrival. It is advised to bring along your return ticket and accommodation proof. Orientation Activities Study Abroad Orientation was held before the start of the term. There were campus tours, local tours (to Coventry), fresher fair and some other entertainment activities. Welcoming and departmental meetings were also held during the orientation. All activities were not compulsory. International Services & Activities The Office for Global Engagement runs regular trips to different cities in the UK during weekends for international students, which are reasonably priced. Accommodations Accommodations I was assigned to Sherbourn Residences, which was my second preference. It is the newest dorm and everything was good except it is a bit far away from the main campus (around 15mins walk). I stayed in a twin room although I indicated I preferred to be in a single room. However, sharing a room was not that bad as I thought. The room was more spacious. Courses Registration Instructions on module registration were given through email prior to the term. It is easy and simple, which requires you to entre the module codes you would like to be enrolled in. It is allowed to add/drop modules within the add-drop period by visiting or sending email to the WBS undergraduate office. Teaching & Assessment Methods I took 4 modules in total during this term as followed: IB3650 Marketing Communications This is a 12-CATS module with a 2-hour lecture every week and no seminar. The lectures usually include teaching followed by case study and class discussion. The module is 100% assessed by a 2500-word report for Visiting and Exchange students.

The report was about evaluation of marketing communication strategy of your own chosen brand, with a highlight on utilisation of social media as a communication tool. IB3870 Marketing Strategy This is a 12-CATS module with a 2-hour lecture every week and no seminar. The lectures usually include teaching followed by case study and class discussion. Assigned readings are expected before class for discussion. The module is 100% assessed by a 2000-word written assignment about evaluation of marketing strategy of a chosen brand. IB2380 Organisational Analysis This is a 12-CATS module with a 2-hour lecture and a 1-hour seminar weekly. The lectures covers various topics related to organisation and are taught by different instructors. The module is 100% assessed by a 2000-word essay. There will be some essay topics given near the end of the term for students to select from. IB3F70 Understanding the Entrepreneur This is a 12-CATS module with a 2-hour lecture and 1-hour seminar weekly. The lectures examine entrepreneurship in different approaches. Some cases or readings are discussed in seminars to consolidate the understanding. The module is 30% assessed by a group presentation and 70% assessed by a 2000-word essay. Sports & Recreation Facilities There is a sports hall in Warwick but membership is required which costs about 30 pounds. There is also outdoor courts for students to use free of charge. Cost/Expenses The price level in the UK is higher than that of Hong Kong, particularly in the aspect of transportation and food. Cooking at home and booking train or bus tickets will definitely save you some money. Approximate expenses during the term are shown below: Category Approximate Expenses (HKD) Return Flight Ticket 7,500 Accommodation 10,000 Living Expenses 20,000 Travelling 20,000 Total 57,500 Social Clubs & Networking Opportunities

There were society fairs at the beginning of the term in which a lot of clubs and departments promoted themselves to freshers. Health & Safety There is a health centre on campus and you can register for that during enrolment. I did not visit the doctor during the term. The campus is generally safe with security services. Food There are plenty of restaurants in Warwick costing about 5-8 pounds a meal. You may top up your Eating@Warwick card (which is your student ID card) to enjoy 10% discount on campus food. Transportation Trains and coaches (or MegaBus) are most common modes of transportation across cities in the UK. 1/3 discount can be applied to fare when if you have a 16-25 railcard for trains and a young person coachcard for coaches. Climate It was cold during the Autumn Term and it was usually windy with showers. Communication The UK is an English-speaking country and there is no problem to communicate with anyone in English. Cautionary measures Keep personal belongings, especially your passport and important documents, safe at all time.
