Awareness raising
A6 FAGD Referat Gesellschaft und Generationen
Source: Department of Society and Diversity, Administration of Styria
Basic principles: Participation und personal responsibility
a) Intergenerational awareness raising
Ageing concerns everybody through life-course from the beginning to the end.
Thus one has to preemptively deal with one‘s own ageing (e.g. think about
where to live, mobility, …).
Intergenerational understanding and interest need to be sparked!
How? Enhancement of communication between generations
b) Promotion of positive and authentic images of all ages
Motto: Do not tell – ask! „Everybody is expert of their own living environment!“
We need to get rid of stereotypes of ageing by using public relations and
different media (homepage, publications, film, …)

Knowledge transfer
A6 FAGD Referat Gesellschaft und Generationen
Source: Department of Society and Diversity, Administration of Styria
The Styrian competence center of active ageing wants to enhance knowledge
transfer from national and international experts from the public and private
sector, universities, companies, NGOs and civil population to policy makers and
into practice and considers itself a learning organisation. Examples: Generations Conference in Mai 2012, Tour of Generations of the Styrian Councilor for
Family Affairs in 2011/2012 through all Styrian regions, …
Funding for intergenerational projects
A “Generations Fund” was implemented by the Styrian Administration. Guidelines
for funding of intergenerational projects were developed and two calls for
projects were carried out in 2011 and 2012. In a competitive two step process an
expert jury selected the best projects to be funded.
