Autonomy wins a £1000 prize in Post Office CommonUnity

competition. Many thanks to Thomas Vaughan who entered the competition on behalf of Autonomy. We were one of 100 organisations chosen from over 2000 entries and will receive our cheque when we are featured in a regional event later this year: https://www.postoffice-commonunity.co.uk/bursary

We were contacted by Emma Brown from CommonUnity and she asked us what we would do with the money. She was told that we would like to spend it on an, as yet unplanned, Autonomy 15th birthday party in 2019, for all members from Telford and Shropshire. This will be held in Shrewsbury and the Telford group will also celebrate being 10 in 2019.

More Fundraising News We had a stall at Shrewsbury Carnival on June 16th to fundraise and let people know about our group. Sadly we only just covered our costs, but handed out leaflets and we hope 2 new members will join us. Many thanks to Gary and Kate who stepped in to help with the stall and to take it all down too!

We have no more Autonomy trips planned for the next few months but will have a great day out at the Black Country Museum in September.

Outings Update

20 of us had a lovely day at Blue Planet Aquarium on April 28th. We learned about fish and sea creatures and watched some of them being fed by divers. We also walked under the large aquarium and saw the rays and sharks right up close!

May Bowling Winners

Our 2 winners who wanted to have their photo taken were Thomas V and James. They are holding the Community Cup - won by our brilliant football team - and which is being safely looked after by Sara.

Mayor's Awards

It was great to see Autonomy member Simon Taylor proudly collecting the Mayor's Special Award on behalf of Shrewsbury Repair Cafe. Simon volunteers at the cafe, fixing items that are often thrown away when there is only a minor fault with them. For more info visit the Shrewsbury Repair Cafe Facebook page.

Sara received a Bronze Mayor's Community Category Award for her work with Autonomy.

Update on Autonomy Evolution Football Team

The team has been having regular kickabouts at Bayston Hill (see front page) and are now coached by Mr Vaughan. In February, they reached the final of the regional FA People's Cup event in Oldbury. They also played in Newtown and gained medals. They then played 5-a-side football at Cefn-mawr, a festival hosted by Wrexham Inclusion FC, in May where Autonomy Evolution beat 7 other teams to win the Community Cup. Their first woman member, Vicky Mason, recently joined the team and they are still interested in new members - of all ages and abilities, and both men and women, so if you want to join the team then please contact Thomas at: autonomyfootball@gmail.com or join the Autonomy Evolution FC Facebook page.
