Production Efficiency

Advanced Process Control (APC) and Optimization

Advanced process control solutions improve process efficiencies by pushing and holding production facilities at their most profitable operating limits. Spartan’s experienced process control team can assist you with everything from assessing the opportunities for APC within your plant, to designing and deploying solutions within your facility, to remotely supporting these applications long term.

Improved controls on our inlet system has stabilized the plant and allowed us to process an additional 100 M3/day of condensate.” – Alberta midstream gas processor

Collaborative Asset Services (CAS)

Collaborative Asset Services provides reliability program development and implementation services for systems, instrumentation/control valves and machinery. Our experienced team of technical specialists are available to assist our Customers in real-time both on-site and remotely. Avoid incidents and optimize your assets with on-demand access to our wide breadth of technical knowledge.

Reliability Consulting, Programs & Smart Equipment

Operators remain challenged to avoid costly down-time and implement proactive approaches to reliability improvements across their facilities. Our reliability support enables Customers to shift from reacting to maintenance events, to more predictive reliability centered maintenance practices with monitoring and predictive diagnostic technologies.

Leveraging DeltaV Advanced Process Controls in an ore processing plant resulted in a 4% increase in production, decreased water usage of 5% and saving of $51MM/year.

Asset specialists have achieved over $230MM in documented (and end-user endorsed) incremental savings and value generated.

Integrated Operations: Collaboration, Decision-Making & Work Flow

Integrated Operations (IO) is the integration of people, organizations, work processes, and information technology in order to make better decisions more quickly on behalf of a business. IO is enabled by access to real-time information, collaborative technologies and the integration of multi-disciplinary expertise independent of geography. Spartan’s IO consultants can assist with all of your organizations IO challenges. From network security and data integration, to complete remote collaboration and visualization solutions.

Spartan deployed a DeltaV advanced control strategy for a Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) operation resulting in a 7% increase in production efficiency with an estimated annual benefit of $10MM/year.

Operators face increasing challenges in response to escalating production costs, fluctuating prices and regulatory compliance. By fully leveraging automation systems, customers can improve capital efficiencies and realize significant reliability and performance improvements.

Environmental Leadership

Focused on Serving our Customers

Low/No Bleed Instrumentation

Pneumatic instruments vent pressurized gas intermittently or continuously through static and dynamic consumption. Spartan’s low/no bleed instruments allow producers to reduce methane emissions while improving environmental compliance. Payback in less than 6 months can be achieved with carbon offsets.

Approximately 25 billion SCF of gas has been saved in Western Canada between 2005 and 2017, or over $70MM, based on $3 gas prices using low/no-bleed instruments.

Operational Excellence Solutions

Spartan’s industrial energy team develop industrial burner management and combustion control solutions designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce NOx and GHG emissions associated with the combustion processes used in equipment like boilers/steam generators, process heaters or kilns.

By optimizing our boiler sequencing we are avoiding expensive cascading boiler and plant trips. We’ve improved plant throughput by avoiding these unplanned outages by over $1.5MM annually.” – Alberta midstream gas processor

Spartan’s focus on Environmental Leadership technology provides our Customers with proven and “implementation ready” solutions to meet fast approaching timelines outlined in current and pending environmental regulations. Our solutions ensure Customers can plan their path to compliance, reducing NOx and Green House Gas (GHG) emissions while further developing sustainability and profitability.

Vent Capture: SlipStream®

Designed to capture vented hydrocarbons and use them as a supplementary fuel source, SlipStream® improves engine or burner efficiency while reducing CO2(e) and VOCs. The system is easily integrated into new and existing installations and has the potential of 15+ MT CO2(e)/yr of GHG reduction.

Displacing a percentage of fuel for engines or burners with normally vented gas provides an immediate economic benefit. In most cases the SlipStream® system can pay for itself in less than six months of operation.

Multi-sector Air Pollutants Regulation (MSAPR, formerly BLIERS): Rich-to-Lean Control

We offer REMVue®, a patented rich-to-lean burn conversion control system for rich-burn natural gas engines that provides significant NOx reductions, reduces fuel consumption and engine/compressor maintenance. The system can be installed in both retrofit and on new engines, providing average fuel savings of 15%.

Operation of engines using REMVue® AFR allows operators to maximize production while meeting the NOx requirements for engines. GHG reduction in the 3+ MT CO2(e)/yr is possible.

To assist companies in complying with the Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) AB-524 regulations, Spartan Controls provides steam testing for ASME section VIII and Section I steam service safety valves.

Our Steam Test stand provides differentiated ABSA compliant steam testing for Pressure Safety Valves (PSV) as new assemblies and repair re-certification. The two test stands have the ability to test up to 3,000 PSI.

The reliability of PSVs in the field is extremely important and is essential to protecting plant assets, people and the environment. PSVs are required to be certified when entering the field, when a plant upset occurs and in regular maintenance intervals.

The dual test stands and full time availability of the Steam Testing Services will allow for faster turnaround and re-certification, which means reduced downtime and increased production for plant operators.

This factory certified National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceable meter calibration stand provides volumetric and density calibrations on a wide range of meter technologies and sizes. The stand utilizes multiple Micro Motion master meters calibrated to accuracy specifications of better than 0.05%.

With a tank capacity of 8,500 liters and two parallel centrifugal pumps, the stand is capable of cycling clean water through test meters at rates ranging from 15 to 4,000 liters/minute. The stand has the capabilities to prove ½” all the way up to 6” Micro Motion and Rosemount Mag meters to within their published factory specifications. Additionally, Vortex meters from ½” to 6” and Micro Motion Meters as large as 10” can be verified for good repeatability and accuracy. All of these sizes and types of meters in the past would have been sent out of country for calibration and verification.

By utilizing a sophisticated ROC800L proving flow computer, the Master Meter Proving Stand gathers the I/O, performs all proving calculations and comes with professional calibration reports that are stored to a customer profile database.

Our hydraulic ram mechanism allows for quick and boltless installation of test meters enabling us to offer same day turnaround capabilities on emergency situations with standard turnaround times of 1-2 weeks on meters that are provided pre-cleaned.
