AIST is fully supportive of any student that believes they require this support or if a lecturer believes it wouldbe in the student’s best interest and urges the student to make an appointment for a meeting with the Principal, without delay.
In addition, there are also a wide range of welfare support systems to help those who need support not onlywith their learning but with other areas of life such as pregnancy, drug usage support, abuse etc. All mattersare confidential and AIST strictly adheres to privacy legislation. Any student requiring assistance should seek anappointment with the Principal who will then refer you to the relevant professional or welfare support system,as necessary.
Each student’s skill level is assessed throughout the interview process andduring the first month or so of a student’s course. If a student is found not tomeet the day to day requirements of their chosen career, the Principal willspeak to that student privately to discuss support options to help them achievethe required standard. Students who receive Centrelink benefits or newmigrants to Australia, may be eligible (subject to Centrelink criteria), forfinancial assistance towards literacy programs.
AIST’s procedures ensure that:The complaint, appeal and outcome are accurately documented. The appeal is heard by an independent person or panel, if appropriate.Students are able to formally present their case.Students are given a written statement of the appeal outcomes, including reasons for the decision. The Institute acts in a constructive manner on any complaint found to be substantiated. A time framewill be implemented to ensure an outcome will be delivered.
