Fall always brings an expectancy of new things. We look forward to the cooler weather, the bright colors on the trees, different routines at home, new teachers at school, and of course, a clean slate for your favorite football team. Fall always sparks new hope.

This summer we've been planning for the fall with an extra sense of anticipation because of our 150th Anniversary Celebration. We are so excited for the time to praise God for what He has done in the past while looking forward to the challenge of growing and building His kingdom in the future. It's a time to look back at cherished things, but with a heart and mind to see God do new and even greater things.

The pages that follow provide schedules and opportunities available for this celebration. You will want to join in as we gather for worship beginning with IGNITE on August 24. This event is actually sponsored by our student ministry, but I know you will be inspired by their special guest, Clayton King. (See page 5). The following weeks are filled with guest speakers, special music, and fun times of fellowship. There is the opportunity to give to our 150th Anniversary Offering that we pray will push the gospel far beyond our walls as well as create an updated and new environment with our facility that builds on the efforts made during our first 150 years to make disciples in this community and identifies us as a church that is preparing to make disciples into the 21st century.

Yet, if we're not careful, we'll celebrate well -- and we should, and we will -- but then miss seeing the 150th Anniversary as an opportunity for change in our spiritual lives, in our body, and in the lives of those who do not know Jesus personally. If we don't position our hearts and minds for God to speak and work in us, then we simply become very busy in the midst of celebration without thinking that God ultimately desires transformation for His purposes ahead.

So, on August 24, promotion Sunday, we'll launch a three-part series that will usher us right into celebration week with the hopes of the Word preparing us, not only to celebrate well, but be changed for year 151 and beyond. Just like blocking and tackling will be fundamentals taught all over football practice fields in August, we too, will look at the spiritual fundamentals of grace and unity. At the end of the series, Joni-Erickson Tada will share her powerful and personal story of how God uses every person and every circumstance to advance the kingdom of Jesus.

Grace. Unity. Every person vital to the work.

I'm praying now that God uses these essential kingdom values for new things in our personal lives, our families and our church. May we praise Him with all that is in us but may we prepare ourselves for the new things ahead.

150th Anniversary OfferingOUR GOAL: $1.5 MILLION

55% Renovations | 30% Debt Retirement | 15% MissionsIn celebration of our 150th Anniversary, we have an opportunity to give a special offering which will address our current debt, create an updated and more welcoming atmosphere for both guests and our church family, and invest in the sharing of the gospel outside our walls.

Renovations (55%/$825,000): The four primary objectives for renovation are as follows: 1) to create a new larger, open and updated space that demonstrates both visually and aesthetically, our continued

commitment to make disciples in this community into the 21st century; 2) to create a more welcoming and inviting environment for our guests; 3) to create a more helpful and open connection center in this hub of our campus for the busy traffic of attendees and

families on Sunday mornings; 4) to clearly identify our main entrance.

Based on the total amount received by December 31, the recommendation from the Renovations Committee will go first to the Finance Committee and then to the church for a vote. No contracts will be signed and no work will be done until the church has had the opportunity to vote to approve the project.

Debt Retirement (30%/$450,000): This percentage represents close to a tithe of our total remaining debt. If the anniversary offering goal and budget are both met, we will reduce our debt by nearly $800,000 this year.

Missions (15%/$225,000): In addition to our regular contribution this year of $1,120,053 (which is more than 18% of our budget), 15% of this offering will fund REACH trip scholarships of up to 50% and potentially provide additional money for our partnerships in Boston, Salt Lake City, and our unreached/unengaged people groups. This portion of the 150th offering is in lieu of our "Side by Side" offering this year.

Our church was blessed in 2013 with an estate gift in excess of $600,000. A small portion was used to complete our parking area upgrades. The remaining amount will be seed money toward the $1.5 million goal.

The 150th Anniversary Offering will be received beginning Sunday, August 24, through Sunday, October 5. Pledges can be made to be fulfilled by the end of 2014.

Outdoor Baptism at Taylors Park

One of the greatest pleasures of life is celebrating the spiritual awakening of others who have come into right relationship with God. I guess that is one reason I love our annual Outdoor Baptism service. We will hold the service this year on campus at Taylors Park. Parking will be available at the ball fields. This is our eighth year to

witness many new believers take this step of commitment to Jesus Christ.

Clayton KingClayton King is a pastor, speaker, and

founder of Crossroads Worldwide, a ministry that reaches people through missions,

camps, speaking events, discipleship and more. He is author of ten books, including

"Amazing Encounters with God," "Dying to Live," and the re-launch of "True

Love Waits" called "True Love Project." He speaks to over 200,000 people annually from college campuses, to public schools

and youth events.

Joni Eareckson TadaIn 1967 Joni Eareckson Tada was injured in a

diving accident at 17 years old, leaving her in a quadriplegic state with minimal use of her hands. After two years of rehabilitation, Joni re-entered

the community with new skills and a fresh determination to help others in similar situations.

Joni and Friends began in 1979 at Joni’s house as she and her friends responded to the many questions and needs pouring in from families affected by disability who read Joni’s books or had seen the movie of her life. From the beginning, Joni, her staff, and volunteers

devoted their energies to developing Christ-centered programs and services which would help meet the spiritual and practical needs of

disabled people and their families.

Frank S. PageFrank S. Page has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the Southern

Baptist Convention Executive Committee since October 1, 2010. He was president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 2006-2008. Prior to moving to Nashville, Dr. Page served as Vice President for the

Evangelization Group at the North American Mission Board (NAMB), Alpharetta, Georgia.

He served as pastor at Taylors FBC from 2001 - 2009.

Ed YoungEd Young is Senior Pastor at Second

Baptist Church of Houston. During his thirty-five plus years there, the church has

grown tremendously, with five locations and 65,000 members. Dr. Young was

elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention in June,1992 and 1993. He is

the author of several books including "Light Walking," "A Deeper Walk with Jesus" and

"Healing Broken America." Dr. Young served the Lord as pastor of

Taylors FBC from 1969-1971.

Fred Luter, Jr.Pastor Fred Luter, Jr. was elected the

Southern Baptist Convention’s first African American Vice President in 2011, and he

made history again when he became SBC’s first ever African American President at

the annual meeting held in his hometown of New Orleans on Tuesday, June 19,

2012. In 2005 his congregation grew to more than 7,000. The story of how he

rallied from Hurricane Katrina by which his congregation was literally spread all over

the country, is nothing short of miraculous.

Paul JimenezPaul Jimenez, Pastor at Taylors FBC since 2010 states, “The aim of my ministry is to instruct and strengthen believers so they

are equipped to love God and evangelize the world. To carry out this ministry, I believe the preaching and teaching of the Word of

God is fundamental.”Prior to becoming pastor of Taylors First Baptist Church, Paul served as Teaching Pastor and Local and National Ministries

Single Mom’s Oil Change or the Taylors Free Medical Clinic were all the idea of one individual who saw a ministry need and then asked God to use them to meet that need. Who knows, maybe God will use a Taylors Children participant to begin something new here in our community.

Way back in 1978, I followed my parents advice to first seek a church home when moving to a new city…”That’s where you’ll find your best friends” they always said – and they were certainly correct! Many of the friends I made in the Russell Ashmore/Claudia Hembree Sunday School class remain friends and are still at Taylors today, even after thirty-six years. 1. We just bought a house. 2. Our boys are thriving. 3.We have good jobs and great friends. 4. Boston is cold. …Just four of the forty excuses that kept us questioning our decision to join the Encounter Church launch team. Our journey to this life on the mission field started in January, 2011, when we both experienced an incredible breakthrough in our walk with the Lord. Up to this point, it would seem we had it all – a big house, a healthy marriage and happy children. From a worldly view, we did. Yet, we both still felt empty. Nothing satisfied.

But then our lives changed forever. We turned the TV off, turned the podcasts on, opened the Bible, and really started to actively seek God’s face. We prayed He would use us and our brokenness for His glory. Whew! Looking back now, we were totally unprepared for what He had in store.

Around this time I remember Dallas sharing with me a sort of revelation that had been given to him. He told me he felt specifically called to plant a church. He had no idea what that meant but felt very strongly about it. And so I asked him to keep that between us because, 1) it sounded crazy; 2) I did not feel the same calling; and 3) it sounded crazy.

Keep in mind this “‘revelation” was almost three years before Chris Causey and Jason Hodges announced their

plans for Boston. Coincidence? No such thing.

In the following months we continued to live life but with a new-found perspective. Where we once had been very critical and judgmental of others, we were now striving to be more like Jesus, to love unconditionally. Where we once wore a mask and pretended our life was perfect, we now encouraged authenticity and transparency. As we struggled with some decisions being made in an extended family member’s life, a sweet friend reminded us that the ground at the foot of the cross is level. My sin of anger is no different than my neighbor’s sin of adultery. Sin is sin and Jesus died for both. No other truth has rocked us to the core as that one did.

Dallas and I were not raised in the church. We both became followers of Jesus in our mid-twenties. We both remember many reasons why we had never wanted anything to do with a church before our conversion. It was a building filled with phony hypocrites who praise God in one breath and curse those not as perfect

as them in the next. Yet, until our transformation in 2011, we had become just like those people. We were not accurately representing Jesus. We were not living out the gospel or the gift of grace. We were supporting an exclusive, “Members Only” religion that was only pushing the world further from Him. It truly burdened us to know that so many people in the world would never know just how much God loved them or who He really was. We had discussed how it was hard to take what we had learned and reach others in Greenville. After all, there are Bible-teaching churches on every single corner. But then Chris and Jason announced a church plant in the Northeast. Deep down, I think we both knew it was exactly what He had been preparing us for, but we just didn’t want to admit it.

Before we did anything, we prayed for direction and discernment. Above all, we wanted to be obedient to God’s calling.

If this was truly His plan for our family, we wanted to be in His will.

We’re excited to announce our new name and mascot, Taylors First Pre-Academy and Spiffy the Sparrow.

The sparrow is an ideal mascot for Taylors First Pre-Academy because sparrows and children share common traits. First, sparrows are very small, making their physical size an obvious commonality between the bird and a child. Also, they are very social. Likewise, children seem to have no social boundaries...they love other people!

The meaning of the sparrow, however, goes much deeper. The Bible references sparrows multiple times and Jesus often compares His caring for the sparrow to His caring for His people.

In biblical times, sparrows were very cheap, therefore, the bird was devalued and considered insignificant. Children were often viewed the same way. The disciples turned children away from Jesus because they considered them unimportant and unworthy to share His time. But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” He even refers to our saving faith as having the faith of a child. Jesus made it very clear that He cares and values children just as much as adults. The same is true for the sparrow - a bird considered to be invaluable and of no importance. What others may see as insignificant, Jesus sees as precious. He values His creation and He cares for them.

We at Taylors First Pre-Academy care for the children, too. It is our desire to love and teach your child with hearts that reflect that same love that Jesus demonstrates. It’s why we do what we do!

move might have on our four boys. How would they adjust to a different culture? What experiences would they miss by leaving all they’ve ever known? How can we support a family of six in such an expensive city? But then we realized that all of our questions and concerns paled in comparison to the miracles that we know they would witness should we say “yes” to God.

In November 2013, we officially committed and began the process to relocate to Boston. We shared our news with family and friends, sold our home, found jobs and secured a rental in Boston. Easy enough, right?

What you may not know is that throughout this process, our entire family endured heavy spiritual warfare. Dallas began to have severe allergic reactions to otherwise common foods. I was experiencing anxiety attacks. These “healthy” children of ours came down with repeat cases of strep throat and staph infections. Our vehicles were breaking down. We were both on edge for months at a time as we waited for God to provide. Fortunately, we knew the enemy was in the middle of all of these struggles. He wanted us to question our decision. He wanted us to stay in our comfortable bubble and forget about the millions who live and die without Jesus.

Thankfully, we serve a God who fights for us. In His Word and through His people, He reminded us of Who is in control. We received house cleaning services while our home was on the market, airline tickets for quick trips to Boston, preschool tuition, transitional housing….the list goes on and on. Every single time we found ourselves sinking deep in despair, He was there with provision.

Our entire team greatly appreciates your prayers as we settle into this new life as missionaries. We know it won’t be easy and that some days will be just plain hard. But God is already at work in Boston – we are simply joining forces with His army to further His Kingdom and all for His glory.

What an amazing week we had at Summer

Spectacular!Read about the amazing things God did in the

hearts of children and our leaders. As many of you know, seven Taylors FBC families

recently moved to Massachusetts to work with our church plant, Encounter Church. Coming

alongside NAMB’s “Send Boston” emphasis, we raised money for the church’s future ministry to children. Through the generosity of families who

attended Summer Spectacular, we were able to raise $6500! God is so good!

We ended our Bible lesson a little early, and I got the kids in a circle. I told them I wanted to pray for them and asked if anyone had any prayer requests. At first only a few hands went up here and there, but after a bit, more and more had the courage to raise their hands. Many even suggested praying for the Boston church plant, and that we would raise enough money to help. It was the sweetest thing and really touched my heart. It was my favorite

moment of the entire week!

2nd Grade Adult Color Group Leader

God blessed me with a leader who encouraged me and gave me a lot of responsibility, including teaching the story on the last 2 days! God really used it to give me experience teaching kids, as I want to be a teacher! And it was such a joy to be able to engage the kids and watch them get excited about the stories we were telling about Jesus! We had many kids tell us how excited they were about believing in Jesus and accepting Him into their hearts to become Christians! It gave me assurance that the Lord truly has placed a passion for kids in my heart and excitement to

continue using the gifts He has blessed me with.

I feel God used me by hopefully creating a stable, relaxing atmosphere in our group that allowed the children to feel comfortable and eager to learn. One noticeably apprehensive little girl from another church came on Monday. Then on Tuesday she ran to the table and her mom said she woke up that morning at 4:30

am to be ready to come back!

2nd Grade Adult Color Group Leader

I signed up late as a volunteer, so I had no idea what age group I would be with. Most of my experience has been with grades K-3. This week has been a blessing for me. God took me out of my ìcomfort zoneî to help me know that all children need to feel loved and special. He has taught me to have patience and grace through dealing with a child with an attitude, and mercy and love for one dealing with a broken home. I am thankful that I have had this opportunity to be a friend and leader to all of these precious children. I

am very blessed!

We are excited to announce changes for the Sunday Morning schedule in Taylors Children this fall.Now birth through 4th graders have the option of staying in the Taylors Children Area for both hours on Sunday mornings. The separate 3rd & 4th grade Kids Worship will give us the opportunity to teach older children about the importance of worship and the many ways we can worship our God while we continue doing the same for 1st and 2nd graders on their level.Also, this change allows us to focus on the preteen aspect of 5th grade, providing them with their own large/small group environments tailored to their specific needs. After the 9 am hour, 5th graders will attend worship upstairs in the Worship Center with their parents.

Greetings Southwinds Extended Family!

We say once you've worn a red Southwinds shirt, you are part of our family. Most people laugh, but we are very serious about our family. We just want to extend a “thank you” to each of you for your continued prayers. Many of you have been a part of this ministry since it first began.

Come visit us and see what God is up to! We are excited to continue planting seeds and building on the existing relationships in a nearby community. Pastor Brett Myers and his family are moving here from South Carolina. As the lead pastor of this new church plant, he has some awesome God stories about his journey to come and live in Calgary.

We set four goals this summer. Many of you planted seeds in families’ lives and now they are starting to seek more details. We want to be ready to give answers to their

questions in ways that will point them towards Jesus. We’ve come quite a ways from teaching positive character lessons in our first summer camps! Now we sing about Jesus on the field. All glory to God for how He is working here!

God is moving and people are obediently following His direction in this province. Southwinds has been a model for other churches as we have had great experiences with partnerships like Taylors FBC. Thank you for being obedient to God's call to love, support and work alongside His Kingdom workers in Calgary.

Southwinds ChurchCalgary, Canada

In 2006 Taylors First Baptist began a partnership with Trinity Baptist Church in Calgary with the purpose of helping to plant a church in South Calgary.Pastor Rob Blackaby and his staff chose this location due to rapid expansion and lack of a church in this area. We began our work with Trinity by sending four teams in the summer of 2006 to help begin building relationships. God truly blessed our efforts, and in the summer of 2007, four more teams traveled to Canada. In September of 2007, Southwinds Church launched with the help of a team of twelve Taylors FBC members.

Many of our members have answered God’s call to share God’s love in Canada over the last nine years. The following reflects the growth from the seeds planted by our REACH teams. Written by Holly Procitia, who currently serves as Community Outreach Coordinator for Southwinds Church, we believe you will see the precious place Taylors FBC holds in the hearts of these people 2,371 miles away.
