We are excited that more people are taking advantage of what Temple has to offer,” said Chuck Ramm, Temple Parks and Leisure Services Recreation Superintendent. Lions Junction is located at 5000 South 5th Street in Temple and features two water slides, a lazy river, a beach entry pool, and a splash playground. “Lions Junction is a great place for all ages, from the water slides to the lazy river and the splash pad there is something for everyone to enjoy,” said Aquatics Coordinator Keith Dawson. “Best of all it is right here in Temple!” “Visitors can purchase a day pass or a season membership which can really save money if you plan on visiting the park several times over the summer,” said Dawson. The final main series show for the 2011-2012 season is the legendary musical, Grease, which opened on July 27. Season members may make reservations and purchase additional tickets. Tickets were on sale to the general public on July 24. Tickets are $25 for adults and $13 for students/children.Evening performances (8 p.m.) will be August 2-3-4-9-10-11. Sunday matinees (2:30 p.m.) will be August 5 and 12. The immensely popular 1950s musical follows the antics of a group of Rydell High School seniors as they navigate their way through the complexities of love, cars and drive-ins. This rock and roll show contains the hits, "Summer Lovin'," "Greased Lightin'," "Beauty School Dropout" and many more.

The Temple Historic Preservation Committee will hold a Marker Presentation honoring Clarence Martin Gym as the latest recipient of a Temple Historic Marker. The reception will be held Wednesday August 8th at 3:30, at Clarence Martin Gym located at 102 West Elm Avenue Temple TX. Clarence Martin Gym was built in the 1930’s and originally used as the gym for Temple High School. In 1965 Temple High School was torn down but the gym remained and was quickly acquired by Temple’s Park and Leisure Services. Since then the facility has been used by various city programs, local organizations and athletic events. The City of Temple has maintained the building over the years due to its importance within the community. The latest renovation was completed May 2012 with the gym receiving new flooring. For more information about the gym’s activities and rental information please contact Tracey Klusacek at 298-5582. The Historic Marker Program was designed to recognize historically significant structures within the city, while encouraging preservation and restoration. In order for a property to be considered for a Temple Historic Marker, the property owner must fill out an application and submit it with supporting documentation to the Historic Preservation Committee. There is a small application fee, which is currently half off for the summer months. After an application is submitted the committee will review the pending application and make a decision. Anyone interested in learning more about the Historic Marker Program or to RSVP for the presentation please call 298-5900.

Central Texas Area Model Railroaders (CentraMod Inc.) is a Non Profit (501.C, 3) organization dedicated to promoting the hobby of Model Railroading.They are located in the Historic Moody Train Depot in downtown Temple, TX. The first and third Saturdays of each month we are open to the public free of charge. CentraMod members also volunteer their time and work hand in hand on special events with the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum, the Temple Convention and Visitors Bureau, Scott and White Children’s Hospital, Various Railroad Historical Societies across Texas, BNSF Railroad Operation Safety, and the Mayborn Museum at Baylor University.

Every Third weekend in September they have the largest Model Train Show in Central Texas. This year will be the 30th. The Temple Model Train Show is presented annually by the Central Texas Area Model Railroaders (CentraMod Inc.) as their primary fund raising event.

The Show will fill every room of the Frank Mayborn Convention Center with Models, how-to clinics, Train videos on the big screen, club booths, and on average more than 50 vendors, selling railroad memorabilia, model trains of all scales and railroad artwork.There will be a completed model railroad layout raffle prize and a Kidde layout that children can run.The $5.00 admission is good for both days and a discount is offered to senior citizens and active duty military. Children under 12 are free with an adult.
